Chapter 18: Heading to the Elven Territory

***

I didn’t do it on purpose, it’s just that these flowers bloom beautifully during this season, right?

Aira looked up with a sweet smile and accepted the flower.

“Should we go inside, or go directly to wherever we’re gathering to prepare for departure?”

“We need to go inside.” Celeste said, “We’re the human delegation, conducting an official diplomatic visit, so there needs to be a small ceremony before we depart.”

Walking into the inner hall, Aira saw that all the expected people were present. Princess Grell was still standing beside the elven delegation, wearing a smile as she engaged in friendly exchanges with them, expressing beautiful wishes for the long-lasting friendship between the two races.

Macken sat a bit lower, nodding slightly at them, meaning roughly “I’ve delivered your message.”

As for the elven delegation members who were currently exchanging pleasantries with the princess on stage, especially that female elf leading the group, she still found time amid her busy schedule to give them a cold glare.

Aira was baffled.

Why are you angry at me? I don’t even know you.

Before departure, Princess Grell awarded each of the girls a Kingdom Hero Medal, exquisitely crafted and delicate, with rose branches as decorative corners and a star engraved in the center.

She originally wanted to pin them on their chests, but when she walked over, the first one was Aira, the second was Lia, so after thinking about it, she gave up.

“Please keep them safe, they are symbols of your honor.”

Vina was secretly making faces behind them. Princess Grell didn’t see it, or maybe she did but pretended not to notice.

Aira thought to herself, see, this is what mature adults do, adults need to learn to pretend they don’t know things they shouldn’t know.

After the simple ceremony, it was time to depart. This time they didn’t need to take horse carriages, the elven delegation had brought several extra Whistle Deer, just enough to pull 2 carriages, allowing the 5 girls to split up and sit in groups of 3 and 2.

“They’re really beautiful.” Zero said after examining them.

The Whistle Deer living in the Central Great Forest were indeed different from deer elsewhere, with horse-like tall builds, and their antlers were anything but simple, when you covered them with cloth, you could see a faint glow emanating from them.

“Don’t put random things on their heads.” Trika walked over and removed the towel, looking proudly at the girls. “By the way, we specifically brought extra Whistle Deer because we were afraid your horses would be too slow to keep up.”

Aira wasn’t angry or anything, but smiled cheerfully and said: “That’s exactly why we want to import them.”

Not just importing Whistle Deer, she wanted Dragon Eagles too.

Trika was politely rebuffed, angrily returned to her companions, and called for the others to mount the deer.

The convoy heading to elven territory set off.

Before getting in the carriage, Aira had been thinking that this journey would take most of the day, all spent in the carriage, two carriages… no, two deer-drawn carriages. She and two companions would sit in one, while the remaining two would sit in the other. So, chatting about heaven and earth with randomly matched companions and talking about the future would be quite an interesting thing to do, while also forgetting about last night…

Then she entered the carriage compartment and saw Lia sitting on the left and Zero sitting on the right.

“…”

Is it still too late to go to the other carriage?

“What are you standing there for? Come in.” Lia reached out to grab the girl’s arm and gave it a gentle pull. “Hurry up!”

Apparently it was too late.

The Saintess made the first move, so Aira sat next to her, but this forced her to face Zero’s gaze directly.

The girl’s eyes were very pure, very friendly, gentle, like a little neighbor girl who had come over.

Aira didn’t dare look at her.

She was indeed a neighbor girl, the problem was she had come over to catch someone cheating, and caught them red-handed at that.

Lia didn’t know about this and patted the seat cushion under her bottom: “Why are you both being such quiet gourds? We’re going to be sitting here for half a day. If we don’t chat about something, won’t it be boring to just sit here for half a day?”

It would be, but Aira was more afraid of chatting about something problematic, what if something explosive came out?

At this moment, Zero spoke up: “What would Miss Lia like to chat about?”

“We can chat about anything.” The Saintess thought for a moment and raised her index finger. “Oh right, you’re already 18, aren’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Have you thought about what you want to do in the future?”

“No.” The assassin girl shook her head gently. “I just came out of that organization less than half a year ago. Right now I just want to be with everyone and do whatever comes up.”

“I don’t mean career plans.” Lia unconsciously pinched her fingers. “I mean, life plans.”

Aira’s heart skipped a beat.

As everyone knows, when someone wants to chat with you about a specific topic, it means they’re probably accomplished in that area, asking on the surface, but actually showing off.

So—

“I haven’t figured it out yet.” Zero asked in return, “What about you?”

“Me? Actually it’s quite simple, just doing things with someone from time to time, then finding opportunities to say it out loud and shock you all.”

Lia’s pretty face turned red like a bubble teapot, and she cleared her throat trying to cover it up:

“Ahem, anyway, that’s roughly how it is.”

Zero smiled and said: “That sounds really nice, it sounds wonderful.”

Then she turned to look at the pink-haired big-breasted girl: “Aira, what do you think?”

How could Aira dare to speak? She could only smile.

Haha (monotone, emotionless).

Lia got more and more excited as she talked, straightening her back, and her big rice cakes perked up too: “Don’t be envious of me, you can do it too.”

“I can too?” Zero pointed at herself and asked, “What do I need to do to be like you?”

“It’s very simple, you just need to first do this and that, then do that and this, and finally do this and that and it’ll be fine.”

Aira couldn’t help but glance at her, it wasn’t a hearing problem, the Saintess really did say it like that.

Probably realizing she hadn’t explained anything clearly, she finally summarized: “You’re still innocent now. Once you have someone you like and gain some experience, you’ll understand.”

Lia spoke with reason and evidence, as if it were perfectly natural, while Zero listened attentively and seriously, looking like she was being taught.

Only Aira broke out in a fragrant sweat.

“What about you, why don’t you say something?” Lia elbowed her. “Where did your voice go?”

“I… think that we’re about to go to elven territory, and we have a mission to complete. Who knows what kind of hardships and dangers we might encounter in the future.” Aira said seriously, “So we should still talk about serious business.”

“Always talking about serious business, that’s all you know.”

Lia snorted lightly and crossed her arms, leaning back against the chair.

Serious business, serious business, you might as well draw the word “serious” on your thigh and spend your whole life with that “serious.”

Zero, however, seemed quite interested, resting her chin on one hand as she looked at the girl, seemingly waiting for her to share her insights.

Aira had no choice under that stare and steeled herself to say: “Within the Elven Kingdom, although we don’t understand the situation, it must be very complex. The more complex the situation, the more we need to grasp the key issues, because the key to solving problems is finding the key problems. As long as we grasp the key, we solve the problem…”

After talking for a while, she didn’t even know what she was saying anymore.

Zero didn’t mind what she said either, as long as there was sound, that was enough. Her voice was pleasant to hear.
