Chapter 15: Secret Infiltration

***

Because the Saintess spoke with such righteousness and confidence, she managed to silence the scene for a moment. Everyone just looked at her quietly, waiting for what would come next.

Even Aira was the same.

With such momentum, you must have some irrefutable reason, right?

Fortunately, Lia had indeed prepared an excuse in advance: “The Church of Light branch in Harbor City is being established. We’ve discussed it and decided to let Aira serve as the honorary director of the Harbor City church branch, to commemorate and recognize her contributions in promoting the light in Harbor City. As everyone knows, every appointment of a high-ranking clergy member requires staying in the church for at least one night.”

“As everyone knows?” Vina was the first to voice her objection. “I never knew that.”

“Because everyone else already lives in the church. Aira is the first one who has always lived outside,” Lia said with a dignified expression. “It’s so that the other believers can get familiar with each other, and also so the Goddess of Light can get familiar with her.”

To cover this lie, she even dragged the Goddess into it. She’d have to do extra penance when she got back.

The effect was significant, at least Celeste believed it, because she trusted her companion’s devotion to the Goddess.

Vina looked at them both suspiciously: “Really? I think you two…”

“Really.”

Just two short words interrupted the little witch’s speech, because they weren’t spoken by Lia, nor by Aira, but by Zero.

Since there was no mission today, the assassin girl hadn’t tied up her hair, letting her long straight black hair hang purely over her shoulders.

“During our time in Harbor City, Aira worked tirelessly to promote the Church of Light, leading from the front. The residents of Harbor City once thought she was the one in charge. So I think it’s very reasonable for Aira to serve as honorary director.”

Hearing this, Vina’s peach blossom eyes blinked.

Wait, the honorary director position being reasonable is one thing, but what does that have to do with staying one night?

Why did everyone suddenly start trusting them!

After the two main forces, Celeste and Zero, both chose to believe them, the little witch had nothing more to say. She was even dragged away by the former to go shopping, saying they were going to the elven race in a few days and needed to prepare their luggage properly.

The latter said she would go upstairs to rest first.

Aira watched the girl’s slender retreating figure, and couldn’t help but feel a warm current surge in her heart. Nothing else, just pure pride in herself.

I told you the tea would work!

“Let’s go,” Lia came over to pull her. “We’re going back to the church.”

Spending the night!

Proud as a spring breeze with swift horse hooves, but without horse hooves her heart was anxious. Walking on the road back to the church, Lia only wished her legs could walk faster.

“When we introduce Whistle Deer later, going from the camp to the church might only take a few minutes, right?” she said expectantly.

Aira made agreeing sounds with her mouth, thinking that while you’d get back quickly, others could also run over to catch you in the act quickly, there’d be no sense of distance at all.

Meanwhile, on the second floor of Campfire Lodge, Zero dragged a bag of salt back to her room and poured it all into the water tank.

The salt water was ready. In broad daylight under clear skies, it was the perfect time to play ghost.

As for the royal palace direction, after seeing off the two girls, Macken first went to the Hall of Tribute to chat with the great hero for a bit, wanting to probe about news of the Sacred Spring seal to see if they really understood this matter.

“No need to ask anymore, I understand what you mean very clearly,” Roars said without even pouring him tea, sitting in his rattan chair with an air of complete composure. “That child’s wisdom and judgment are truly astonishing.”

Meaning they did indeed know, it was discovered by our Lala, but we won’t tell you what exactly it is.

Macken was rebuffed and had to return the same way, then headed to the foreign guest inn to relay the girl’s response to the other party.

Trika flew into a rage: “Demanding extra Dragon Eagles? How dare she!”

The other elves also chimed in: “Too arrogant!”

“Highway robbery!”

Macken’s expression remained unchanged, his square face saying blandly: “Perhaps because they already know what needs to be done.”

This light remark instantly shut Trika up, making her face flush red.

“E-even so, she can’t take advantage of the situation to make outrageous demands…”

“That has nothing to do with me, and nothing to do with you, Miss Trika,” Macken said to her. “After all, we’re both just messengers.”

Aira is negotiating a deal with your elven elders, what’s the point of you getting so worked up?

“…”

For the first time, the elves memorized the name Aira, these demands were proposed by her.

A mere big-breasted pretty face daring to be so arrogant, just you wait!

……

Coming to the headquarters of the Church of Light in the royal capital once again — the Great Cathedral of Light — Aira couldn’t help but feel somewhat moved.

A truly united religious organization where betrayal was almost impossible, with all believers united as one. There was only one reason this could be achieved — they really did have the Goddess of Light.

As a pragmatist, the Demon King had never refused such things. As long as they were useful and effective, they could be adopted.

Next time she returned to Harbor City, she’d figure out how to arrange this for her army brothers. Don’t say anything about how dark bloodlines could believe in light, couldn’t they toil in darkness while serving light?

“Aira, don’t space out,” Lia tugged her small hand. “Come on, let’s go in.”

She couldn’t wait to bring the girl back to her own home.

Having lived here for half a month a month ago, Aira had become familiar with the clergy in the church, greeting everyone along the way.

At the corner, several small heads secretly poked out, observing in secret.

“Look, that pink-haired big-breasted sister is here again.”

“Wow, she’s really bigger than Sister Saintess.”

“She’s here, Sister Saintess is going to stay out all night again.”

There seemed to be some strange rumors among the children.

Lia was in a hurry on the road, but after returning to the church, she wasn’t in a hurry anymore. She first showed Aira where they’d be sleeping together tonight — still the same small compartment from before, but it had been cleaned up again. The floor had been changed to a pink and white carpet, and a small sun disc was even hung directly on the wall.

A sun disc?

Noticing Aira staring at the small device, Lia’s pretty face turned slightly red, saying embarrassedly: “That’s just a decoration with no actual effect. I just hung it there to give myself… some peace of mind.”

Why could hanging a small decoration give peace of mind? Because if she did anything, she could confess to the Goddess at any time, zero delay.

Then Lia went to the kitchen and specially ordered the holy meal she wanted to eat tonight. After eating and drinking their fill with Aira, they went together to pray beneath the goddess statue in the sanctuary.

Respected Goddess of Light, we’re all family here.

Then she impatiently pulled her back to the small compartment, ready to sleep!

At Campfire Lodge, in a “place” that no one could perceive, a petite undead invisible to all walked out, following the banks of the River Styx, passing through the bustling market streets, arriving at the entrance of the Great Cathedral of Light.

The sun had set, and even the last traces of twilight had finally faded. The natural light barrier around the church’s perimeter had weakened in effectiveness, and the petite undead floated lightly through.
