Chapter 6: Return to the Royal Capital

***

Aira silently scooted a bit to the side.

“I didn’t notice that. As for the scent… there’s nothing particularly special about it, right?”

It’s normal to have a natural fragrance on one’s body. I heard that girls are all fragrant and soft.

Vina shook her head: “No, it’s very special. Little Ai’s scent is very alluring, it makes people want to relax around Little Ai.”

“…I don’t think so.”

And besides, did a car just run me over just now?

“Hehe, you don’t believe it now, but you’ll realize your mistake when someone can’t hold back in the future. Also, you’re missing a button on your collar.”

Vina reached out her small hand and hooked it through the gap in Aira’s collar, then left the carriage.

Even after she was gone, Aira’s chest was still swaying.

So bouncy… no wait, this isn’t the time to think about that. Do I really have something weird on me?

Thinking carefully back, when the laboratory personnel presented the secret medicine, they mentioned the ingredients. Besides those transformation factors targeting human females, they also added snow whale collagen for nourishment and beauty, elf spring dew for skincare and whitening, and succubus essence that might have an effect.

“Gulp.”

Did it actually take effect?

No, let me calm down first. What Vina said might not all be true. What if she’s just trying to startle me for fun? She’s exactly that kind of terrible person.

If I believe everything she says, wouldn’t I become a complete fool?

Aira secretly felt relieved.

That’s right, it’s very possible. Don’t easily trust what this person says. According to her, this Hero Party has one with obsessive-compulsive disorder, one two-faced person, and one harboring heavy dark secrets. Not a single normal person among them.

She’s basically telling me stories.

“Aira, I’m back.” Zero pulled open the carriage curtain and entered, holding two meat pies in her hands. “I saw someone selling these on the road. They’re fresh from the oven, try one.”

See? Such a bright and cheerful person, where would any heavy darkness come from? It must be false information.

Aira held the meat pie and took a big bite.

So delicious!

“By the way, I just saw Vina coming out. What did she tell you?”

“Nothing much, just some incomprehensible words.”

“Oh.”

The return convoy continued forward on the main road. Relying on their considerable strength, the convoy barely made any long stops along the way, traveling through the night with shift changes.

After three days and nights of urgent travel, the convoy came to a halt.

In the morning, Aira had just woken up, rubbed her eyes, and stretched—

“Mmm… nn~~~ah!”

It seemed like she made some strange sound while stretching, but it didn’t matter. Let’s just consider this part of being a beautiful girl in disguise. After all, without being a girl for 8 or 10 years, one definitely couldn’t make that kind of sound naturally.

The sounds outside were so lively, completely different from the past two days. Had they arrived?

“Aira, we’ve reached the royal capital!” Zero’s voice came from outside the carriage. “Want to come out and take a look!”

“Coming.”

Aira pushed open the door and got off the carriage, standing together with Zero to look at this prosperous royal capital. Below the tall city walls, crowds of people came and went endlessly. In the distance, towering buildings rose one after another, with the Great Cathedral of Light and the royal palace echoing each other like twin towers.

Looking down at her own feet, she could see nothing but milky white snow, but that was fine. Aira knew she was standing on the cobblestone streets of the human kingdom’s capital.

Over ten years ago, in a tavern in the demon city, Io, who had not yet become the Demon King, raised his right hand high:

“The demon race will surely rise! Someday, I will stand beneath the walls of the human royal capital representing the demon race!”

Never mind the method, just tell me, did he make it or not?

Clank, clank. Aira heard the sound of armor rubbing together. Looking up, she saw about ten tall, burly soldiers approaching, their armor engraved with sun patterns, looking like Sun Knights at first glance.

Their attire seemed different from the soldiers standing on the city walls.

“These people have come to receive Miss Lia,” Zero whispered.

She watched as they approached the first carriage, knelt on one knee, and placed their hands on their chests in a prayer gesture.

Lia pulled open the carriage curtain and gracefully stepped down, revealing a beautiful and holy smile: “Thank you all for your hard work. May the light always shine upon you and me.”

“Praise the Light! Praise Saintess Lia!”

“Praise the Light! Praise Saintess Lia!”

People in the morning market turned to watch, children cast curious glances, but their parents pulled them along to join in the prayer.

Praise the Light!

“Miss Lia,” Celeste called out softly from behind, “during the training period, we need to live together.”

“I know. I’ll come to the camp tonight.”

After saying this, Lia left with those dozen or so guards, heading toward that conspicuous great cathedral.

Aira tugged at Zero’s sleeve and asked quietly: “Where are we going?”

“Campfire Lodge. That’s just the name, it’s actually a guesthouse located in the northern district of the city. The environment is very nice.”

Living together? Good, good, good. The more contact time, the more advantageous it would be for her plan.

Hehehe.

Celeste disposed of the extra carriages right there in the morning market, keeping only two for current use, and led the remaining people toward Campfire Lodge.

Half an hour later, they arrived.

Zero was right. Campfire Lodge was indeed a guesthouse located in the northern part of the city. Although it looked rather unremarkable from the outside, the environment was truly excellent, and it was maintained even when no one was staying there.

It was undoubtedly a good place. Though located within the city district, it was undisturbed by the hustle and bustle of the marketplace. Every morning, opening the southwestern window would reveal the cathedral dome, and standing in the southeastern courtyard, one could gaze upon the royal scenery.

Elegant environment, convenient transportation, beautiful scenery.

“Zero, go submit this mission report,” Celeste stood in the living room giving instructions. “Vina, you…”

“I also need to return to the Magic Court,” Vina said before she could finish. “Having been away for so many days, the old men must be getting anxious.”

With both girls having business to attend to, Celeste’s gaze fell on the last face.

“Go find an empty room. Any without nameplates are available.”

“Alright.”

Such calm arrangements, Aira thought to herself.

The four occupied rooms were scattered around the second floor. After looking around, she finally chose the one in the middle. This room was close to all the other four people, convenient for daily interaction.

Just as she was tidying up the room, the door she had just closed was knocked upon.

“Who is it?”

“Me.”

Celeste’s voice. That made sense, only the two of them were here now.

Aira asked what the matter was while opening the door, only to see the serious swordsman girl walk in with a notebook and pen, looking into her eyes and asking:

“What can you do?”

Aira was taken aback: “What?”

“Although you seemed to have said you could do anything, that was your subjective expression of willingness. I need to know your objective range of abilities for task allocation and assessment,” Celeste said calmly.
