Mental Illness Evolution Manual - Chapter 95
"And there you have it, folks! Another chapter conquered...or at least, not completely butchered. Please forgive any egregious errors; I blame the coffee (or lack thereof).
It was too sudden. No one could react. Who could have imagined that at the last minute, their own people would be the first to turn on each other?
“Move the things away!” Lu Mingqiu said.
There was no time to be shocked. They had to see for themselves whether the people below were dead or alive.
Hearing the order, the people immediately gathered around, wanting to lift the pile away. But Yan Xianchuan shooed them away, “Get out of the way, get out of the way. I’ll do it myself. You’re in the way.”
She grabbed the top of the wall with both hands and threw it into the empty room. Then she bent down, her two hands working independently, her head didn’t lift, the rest of the junk followed suit one after another.
She was like a magician throwing playing cards, her hands were so fast that they were almost a blur.
She was indeed much faster alone.
After a while, the few people below were dug out. The woman in military uniform’s body was the most unfortunate. A chair leg had pierced through her chest cavity, embedded in it. But because there was no moisture left in her body, there was no blood flowing out. She was like a realistic specimen, like a bug pinned to a wall with a thumbtack.
The other man in military uniform had blood all over his face and head. He was unconscious. Lu Mingqiu glanced at him, and his already weak breathing immediately stopped.
Azberto was lucky. He only had a broken leg. A table had helped him block most of the damage. He knew that he couldn’t escape this fate, and he didn’t want to waste any more words with the group. Instead, he propped himself up and looked at the girl next to him.
“Evelyn, I need a reason,” he said.
“Brother, is it always like this? Dying people are always so curious?” The girl giggled. But she couldn’t help but cough a few times, blood foam spilled from her nose and mouth.
A piece of glass had pierced her lung, blood stained the dress she was wearing.
“I’m dying too. What a pity.”
Azberto looked at her coldly.
Evelyn was a very talented person. No member of the Polov family was mentally normal, and she was no exception. When she was still a single-digit age, she already had a hobby of torturing small animals.
When her subordinates reported it to him, he didn’t care.
This little problem wasn’t considered a disease in the Polov family.
Until one day, the corpses she discarded were no longer torn and rotten flesh, but dried-up pieces of flesh. No professional equipment could achieve this effect. Evelyn couldn’t access these tools, so there was only one answer.
She had awakened her ability.
Azberto found her and didn’t have much trouble absorbing her into his ranks. The benefits he gave her were simple, he gave her more opportunities to kill.
“I’ve never been loyal. I’ve been by your side just to kill. I’m going to die anyway, if I don’t kill a couple more before I die, I won’t have the chance later.”
The girl turned her head, she suppressed all the smiles on her face, a chilling hatred appeared in her eyes. She said softly, “Brother, you’re going to die too. Why don’t you die in my hands? Okay?”
Azberto’s face was slightly weary. Even now, his eyes were still filled with arrogance, a kind of weariness of being the only one who was sober in a world of drunkards, but being held back by fools.
He didn’t speak, he had obviously lost the will to speak.
Azberto closed his eyes and fell backwards. When he hit the ground, he was already a dried corpse.
“I wish this world would just be destroyed,” the girl muttered, she used her ability to drain her own blood, she lay quietly on the ground, embracing death.
…What a pair of lunatics.
The normal people present thought this.
“Retreat,” Lu Mingqiu’s voice broke the silence, it also startled the speechless crowd.
Yan Xianchuan fell behind. When no one was paying attention, she quietly went to Azberto’s corpse, reached out and pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, and stuffed it into her own pocket.
When they reached the third floor, the Holy Knight carried Gold Ring’s body on his back. This weight didn’t affect his movements.
“We can’t leave him here.”
The electromagnetic bomb had a half-hour activation time. They couldn’t get remote support from Black, so the warning work became much more difficult.
When they quickly ran downstairs, they found that the people who had come down earlier had already engaged in combat. Fortunately, there were no casualties yet.
Now White finally had a chance to show his skills. He was the first to act, he spread his five fingers outwards, a round black dot quickly expanded, it swept from left to right like a plow, following the direction of his fingertip. Then he pushed it forward.
“Go!”
The group jumped back into the sewer and retreated along the original route.
At the same time, the deputy, who had flown to the front lines, dropped the mutated potion from the airship.
Green mist billowed out. Standing in the sky, you could clearly see the direction it was spreading. It was like rolling hills, climbing vines. It was almost like a scene from a game.
Roars and panicked screams could be faintly heard.
It was indeed a channel that could make people climb quickly. The prerequisite was to survive the torment of mutation, successfully acquire an ability, and survive.
Becoming an ability user naturally meant being above everyone else, with endless wealth and glory.
The deputy only took a few glances, he made sure the potion took effect, then he ordered the airship to return immediately.
They were halfway back when he suddenly fell to the ground. A strange feeling of weakness and dizziness enveloped him.
His subordinates hurriedly helped him up, their eyes were filled with horror. Through his blurred vision, the deputy saw that his arm was like a matchstick. His full, plump muscles had instantly shrunk by half, as if he had been bedridden for ten years, his body was shriveled and deformed.
He knew what caused the change.
The deputy was also an ability user. His ability was to transfer damage.
He was bound to Azberto. If the latter received a fatal injury, half of it would be transferred to him. If he was present, he could even transfer all the wounds to himself and die in his place.
But Azberto was still dead.
The deputy’s ability could only be used once, but Evelyn wouldn’t hold back. After the damage transfer ability took effect, she continued to drain his blood. Azberto would still die.
His ability was indeed very useful at critical moments, but there was nothing he could do in a situation where death was inevitable.
The deputy was Azberto’s confidant. Seeing his current appearance, he immediately understood what had happened.
Evelyn must have done it.
He could no longer feel the other person he was bound to. His superior was dead.
The deputy grabbed the hand of the person next to him, his voice weak but vicious, “Use the KX27 missile, blow up Gaoshan City for me!”
“What?” The subordinate was stunned, he asked incredulously, “The general is still alive. Are you going to betray him?”
“He’s gone. The superior is dead,” the deputy, who was always known for his coldness and toughness, was now covered in tears, “Evelyn killed him. I’ve always thought she wasn’t trustworthy.”
He took a deep breath, “We can’t let her get away. She has to pay!”
Seeing that his subordinates were still standing there, the deputy roared, “What are you standing there for? Go give the order! Use the missile to burn Gaoshan City, understand?!”
The subordinate scrambled to the cockpit. Despite the malfunctioning electronics, they could still send messages. After all, wars had been fought long before modern technology; it was simply more challenging.
With the superior dead, the New World plan had completely failed. The deputy used his arm to prop himself up and climbed onto the chair. Tears still lingered on his face, but his eyes were filled with determination.
His life was given to him by his superior. Now it was time to repay him.
The deputy silently estimated how many troops and weapons they had left, “Tell the survivors to gather in Kurtz.”
Even if there were only ten thousand people left, it would be enough.
What supported Azberto’s confidence wasn’t the Federation’s previous half-hearted suppression, nor was it the church, an ally who had jumped ship halfway. It was what was hidden beneath the Polov Manor.
…
The group ran through the sewer. Everyone’s breathing became heavier, sweat seeped out of their skin. As they ran, Yan Xianchuan suddenly stopped, she raised her head and looked upwards, her expression was a little strange, “I think I heard something.”
“It’s very fast.”
The group was a little puzzled, more confused.
Another second passed, Yan Xianchuan’s face suddenly changed, “It’s a missile!”
She instantly grabbed Lu Mingqiu’s hand. The latter’s pupils constricted, she could already hear the sonic boom of the missile flying.
How much time did they have left? Three seconds? Five seconds? In a flash, several balls of white light flew out and landed on everyone.
Without Lu Mingqiu’s orders, everyone quickly scattered, each looking for cover.
Yan Xianchuan had never experienced this kind of scene before. She could only follow Lu Mingqiu and run.
Lu Mingqiu was also clueless. She didn’t know where the missile would land. If it was right above them, even if they went further underground, it wouldn’t help.
No one could survive at the epicenter of the explosion.
All she could do was dodge as much as possible and gamble, gamble on the choice of fate.
Suddenly, with a bang, the ground shook, the pipes above their heads shattered, making a sharp, piercing screech. But its sound was drowned out by the louder explosion.
Yan Xianchuan only had time to throw herself on top of Lu Mingqiu. The louder sonic boom roared.
The deputy sat in the airship, looking towards Gaoshan City. Several black and red mushroom clouds bloomed in the city. The round sonic boom clouds quickly expanded outwards, they even directly broke through the clouds in the sky. After another ten seconds, the thunderous sound of the explosion reached his ears. The shockwave caused the airship to shake slightly.
Almost all the buildings on the ground were destroyed, leaving only piles of rubble and the dilapidated base of half-collapsed buildings. Dust filled the air. After seeing this with his own eyes, the deputy ordered the airship to continue forward, heading towards Kurtz.
The sounds from above continued. Lu Mingqiu crouched on the ground, her back covered by a thin, soft body that completely shielded her.
Her eyelids were closed, she couldn’t see what was happening. Her ears were buzzing, she could only hear the thunder, but she could clearly feel the pressure on her back, which suddenly sank and then stopped.
Did she think she was some kind of iron man, invincible, able to block even explosions?
Even if it were a real metal shield, it would be instantly melted under such high-temperature impact.
Yan Xianchuan was just a human with some special abilities. Bullets could still hurt her. She wasn’t invincible at all.
In this noisy and quiet environment, something wet her clothes behind her, it also moistened her eyes.
