Mental Illness Evolution Manual - Chapter 91
"And there you have it, folks! Another chapter conquered...or at least, not completely butchered. Please forgive any egregious errors; I blame the coffee (or lack thereof).
Bang!
The recoil made Xu Zhen’s wrist shake. Her eyes were fixed on Qian Hu. The bullet hit, but it didn’t hit him. A bodyguard took the bullet for him.
“Damn it!” she cursed.
Why would someone be so loyal to a scumbag like Qian Hu, to trade their life for his? Why!
The Night City had a gun ban. When they came in, they only had one gun each. They had to use their skills and teamwork to smuggle the bombs in under the guards’ noses.
If only they had a rocket launcher, they could blow this bastard to smithereens.
Xu Zhen was almost blinded by anger, but a turning point suddenly appeared. Tan Yiyuan’s grenade flew over their heads and exploded in front of them. The shockwave and shrapnel flew everywhere.
A group of people who were running forward couldn’t stop so easily. They were immediately thrown into disarray. They had to stop their forward momentum, twist their bodies, turn their heads, and start running again. All these actions took more than a blink of an eye, but the explosion didn’t wait for them.
With a bang, the continuous gunfire stopped.
Tan Yiyuan rushed to Feng Tao’s side first, he put his arms under his armpits and dragged him back into the room. Skinny Monkey and Xu Zhen took advantage of this opportunity to charge towards Qian Hu’s direction and start their counterattack.
They didn’t have many bullets, but it didn’t matter. There weren’t many people left. One bullet each, aimed at the head, was enough.
These people were truly loyal. Just like the last explosion, they chose the same response, they threw themselves on top of Qian Hu, taking the blast for him.
But it happened so suddenly, Qian Hu was still injured. A piece of shrapnel pierced his abdomen.
Xu Zhen fired shot after shot. While these people were dizzy and deaf, she quickly killed all the bodyguards who were still alive. Every shot hit their heads.
Only Qian Hu was still alive.
He struggled to crawl out from under the pile of people. The tiles on the floor were covered in blood, they were wet and slippery. Qian Hu was already weak, his hands kept slipping, he bumped his head several times, and more blood flowed out.
He took a few deep breaths, his eyes filled with unwillingness.
Was he going to die here today? He had fought his way up from nothing, from a scumbag to a money boss everyone feared. The effort he had put in was something others couldn’t imagine.
He didn’t want to die, he couldn’t die!
Qian Hu raised his head and looked at the two people walking towards him.
“…It’s you!”
Xu Zhen’s face was very recognizable. It was hard to forget someone with a face like hers, especially since she was someone Qian Hu hadn’t gotten his hands on.
As for Skinny Monkey, he didn’t know who this person was. He just thought he was a comrade.
Xu Zhen walked over, grabbed Qian Hu’s collar, and dragged him out. She threw him to the side like a dead fish, “Look at you, the famous Mr. Qian, how come you’re so pathetic today?”
“Where are your men? Where’s your domineering attitude? Huh?” Her tone was sarcastic. She stepped on Qian Hu’s shoulder, the thick soles of her shoes pressed against his skin, mercilessly, almost breaking his arm.
Qian Hu had been living a life of luxury for too long. He had lost the ruthlessness he had when he was struggling at the bottom, not afraid of heaven or earth. He used to be unfazed by being stabbed a few times, but now, this little injury made his face change drastically, his features contorted.
“Let me go, I can give you half of the Black Tiger Gang!” Qian Hu gritted his teeth.
“The entire underground commercial district, half of it is owned by the Black Tiger Gang. I can give it all to you.”
Xu Zhen stared at him for a while, then suddenly laughed, “So you think this will move me? You think I’m after money.”
“Mr. Qian, you consider these things treasures, but it doesn’t mean everyone is like you. Hahahaha!” She laughed hysterically, as if she had heard the greatest joke.
Skinny Monkey kicked him, deliberately kicking him in the stomach, “Who wants your stinking money? We want you dead!”
Qian Hu’s face turned green and white, the sharp pain interfered with his nerves. He blurted out, “That’s hundreds of millions of assets!”
What did he mean by stinking money? What did he mean by not wanting it? If you converted this money into paper bills, it could bury a person alive, it could fill an entire villa. With money came status, you would be above everyone else, you could have anything you wanted, you wouldn’t have to look at anyone’s face anymore, you wouldn’t have to bow and scrape to please anyone, you could do whatever you wanted. It was power, it was freedom!
He had lived his whole life for these things. In the mouths of these two people, it was like it was some roadside weed that was repulsive.
Money! It was money!!
“People like you, you only see money, you don’t see anything else. There are things more precious than money, but you probably can’t understand.” Tan Yiyuan walked over, but his eyes were filled with pity.
Qian Hu understood the look in his eyes. He was instantly enraged.
Pity me? Why? I’ve come from nothing to where I am today. I’m a superior being. Pity me? Does he deserve to?
Qian Hu stared at him fiercely, “More precious than money? Is it the love you talk about? For a woman, you give up your future, you give up your life. A mere woman, I can have as many as I want. You’re the fools!”
Xu Zhen turned her head to look at him. Tan Yiyuan said softly, “Lucky for you, it’s a through-and-through wound. We bandaged it up, but we need to hurry. The guards are on their way.”
“I wanted to torture him a little longer,” Xu Zhen said regretfully.
Skinny Monkey pulled out a dagger, his eyes were full of malice as he looked at Qian Hu, “We can each stab him a few times. Remember not to stab him in the vital parts, we can’t let him die too easily.”
He sneered, he aimed at Qian Hu’s other shoulder and stabbed hard. The tip of the knife was sharp, it pierced directly into the joint. Qian Hu was in pain, he screamed, his legs flailed wildly, trying to dodge, but the more he struggled, the more painful it was.
The blade cut through the flesh in the bone seam, it almost made him die of pain.
Skinny Monkey stepped on his arm, pulled out the knife, blood splattered on his face, but he only felt pleasure. Then he handed it to Tan Yiyuan.
The latter took the short dagger, he looked into Qian Hu’s eyes, which were filled with fear and confusion. He shook his head desperately, begging, “Kill me, you’re a good man! Kill me! Give me a quick death.”
“I’m not,” Tan Yiyuan said indifferently as he stabbed the knife into his lung along his ribs, “Good people only have lives that are trampled on.”
His hand holding the hilt was very steady. He twisted it counterclockwise.
Qian Hu was already in so much pain that he couldn’t speak. Blood foam spilled from his mouth, his throat made a gurgling sound. Every breath he took was painful, his nose and mouth were full of blood.
Xu Zhen was left. She lowered her head, she looked down at her miserable and pathetic enemy, she moved her foot up and stepped on his neck, gently pressing down.
It didn’t take long before Qian Hu suffocated, his face became congested and purple, his eyeballs bulged. She released her pressure, watching him gasp for breath like a dead dog.
“Being tortured like an animal by someone you look down on, how does it feel, Mr. Qian? You didn’t expect to die at our hands, did you?”
She half-squatted down, the tip of the knife cut through Qian Hu’s face, slowly moving upwards from his chin to his eye sockets. She gently pried it open, an eyeball, like a peeled grape, was picked out of his eye socket and rolled on the ground a few times.
“I once swore that I would cut you into a thousand pieces. What a pity.”
The hilt was soaked in blood, it was very slippery. She wiped it casually with the hem of her clothes, then deftly dug out his other eye.
Qian Hu rolled like a fish thrown into the sand. Xu Zhen chuckled, she pressed down on his head, she raised her hand and slashed down, cutting off his two ears.
“This is for Brother Feng.”
The short dagger was completely submerged in Qian Hu’s thigh. He only convulsed once, he didn’t even scream.
Pain, so much pain!
Qian Hu couldn’t tell what he was suffering anymore. He was about to collapse.
“We need to retreat,” Tan Yiyuan listened to the commander’s instructions in the earpiece, “I’ll carry Brother Feng.”
He said this and immediately ran back into the room.
“What a pity,” Xu Zhen repeated.
She raised her hand and quickly stabbed Qian Hu’s abdomen dozens of times. He was almost a blood man, blood seeped out of every hole in his body.
Seeing that he was breathing more out than in, Skinny Monkey still wasn’t satisfied. He kicked Qian Hu away, sending him flying straight down from the upstairs, he landed on the gambling table on the first floor.
Qian Hu didn’t move, the blood flowing from his body stained the chips on the table red.
He was dead.
He died in the pile of money he loved the most.
Tan Yiyuan carried Feng Tao out. Besides the through-and-through wound, he also had many abrasions. Fortunately, he wasn’t in danger, his vital organs weren’t injured.
His face was visibly relaxed, “We did it.”
The four of them didn’t stop, they quickly ran outside.
“What are you going to do? Do you want to go back?” Feng Tao said softly.
Xu Zhen quickly checked the retreat route. Seeing that there were no guards, she made a safe gesture, then said, “I don’t know.”
After killing Qian Hu, she had initially felt a sense of satisfaction, but now she only felt empty. What else could she do? She didn’t know.
Skinny Monkey: “I don’t want to go back. To be honest, Azberto isn’t a good person either. Why go back?”
“He’s a madman. Working under someone like him, you’re bound to be finished sooner or later. To be honest, there are very few of those soldiers who came to infiltrate and kill. The higher-ups don’t treat them as assets, they’re disposable.
“I don’t even understand why so many people are willing to die for him.”
He guarded the rear as he said, “My mom said before that she wanted to find a quiet place to retire. I’m going to move them both to a good place, I’ll spend the rest of my life taking care of them.”
“They want me to live well, so I’ll live well. I’m not going to die with them.”
Tan Yiyuan said softly, “Originally, I planned to take my wife and daughter away from the black streets, open a repair shop, and live a good life. I would send my daughter to school.”
Xu Zhen silently continued his words, “I used to want to open a restaurant. My sister said that I cooked very well.”
The four of them fell silent. After a while, Feng Tao said, “Okay, we won’t go back. We need to find a place to get the chips in our heads removed. Otherwise, with them in there, we won’t be able to leave even if we want to.”
“Do you know a reliable black market doctor?” Tan Yiyuan asked, then he said with some worry, “Is he still alive?”
They had seen many corpses on the way here, they were all people who had been killed by the rebels.
The army was well-equipped and had excellent combat skills. They were up against untrained half-baked gangsters. One could kill ten. The entire street was like a pot of human meat soup, there was so much blood that it almost formed a stream flowing into the drainage ditch.
“He’s definitely alive,” Feng Tao patted his shoulder, “That guy loves to enjoy himself, he doesn’t live here. He has a house in Qingyuan District.”
Xu Zhen: “Damn… he’s rich.”
“I suddenly regret not taking Qian Hu’s money. Don’t let it go to waste.”
They had been living day by day, they thought money was useless. Now they were planning to continue living, money was a necessity.
Skinny Monkey said nonchalantly, “It doesn’t matter, we’re all together, it’s not hard to make money, right?”
Tan Yiyuan laughed, his words were full of hope, “That’s right, we’ll get better and better.”
Not just for themselves, but also for those who have passed away.
The guards in Dingyang City arrived quickly. The Federation had been on guard all along. Fortunately, three of the four of them were registered residents of Dingyang City. When they encountered the guards, they pretended to be survivors who had escaped. They actually fooled them.
The four of them stole a car on the side of the road and drove directly to Qingyuan District. Xu Zhen shot the camera with a gun, creating a blind spot in the surveillance. They climbed over the wall one by one, they found the black market doctor’s house.
They knocked on the door a few times. After a while, a middle-aged fat man stuck his head out and said impatiently, “Who is it!”
It was chaotic outside, and yet he was wearing pajamas and slippers, he was incredibly relaxed.
He didn’t recognize the others, but he was very familiar with Feng Tao’s face. He was about to close the door.
Xu Zhen pushed against the door, she said like a bandit, “Won’t you invite us in for a seat?”
The man inside’s face twitched three times, “Come in, come in!”
…
This chaos came quickly and left quickly. A total of thirteen thousand people came, only less than two thousand survived. Many of them could have escaped unscathed if they had retreated in time, but they didn’t. They chose to continue cleaning up those “inferior people,” and they were eventually killed by the guards who arrived.
The remaining two thousand people were the ones who listened to the commander’s orders and chose to leave.
These people, on the surface, still had their own minds, their personalities hadn’t changed, but in reality, they had already lost themselves. They were a group of puppets who only knew how to obey orders.
Such a big thing happened in Dingyang City, the Yan family’s main branch also sent a message. The head of the family asked Yan Xianchuan to organize charitable work, to help those who were injured and displaced by the war.
This was about showing their reputation.
The Yan family often did charitable work. There were hardly any homeless people in Yuecheng, it was also the city with the highest happiness index.
Among the major tycoon families, the Yan family had the best reputation. The other families were almost the same, nothing special.
As for now, the worst was definitely the Polov family.
The good news was that Azberto didn’t care about these empty titles. All he cared about was his ultimate ideal.
But Yan Xianchuan wasn’t in Dingyang City now, she was in the south with Lu Mingqiu. She didn’t need to be there in person for the charity work. Mirror could do it on their own, besides, Xie Wu was helping, there wouldn’t be any problems.
She and Lu Mingqiu secretly returned to Yuecheng and stayed at the Resistance’s base. They met the new ability user, Duoduo.
She looked like she was eight or nine years old, but she was actually eleven. She was just malnourished, her body was very thin, her limbs were like twigs, she was practically skin and bones. She looked pitiful.
She didn’t talk much, and she wasn’t very bold. When she saw her, she was hiding behind Grey Rabbit, like a little shadow, tugging at his clothes. Wherever Grey Rabbit went, she followed, step by step.
If others talked to her, she wouldn’t answer. Perhaps it was related to Lu Mingqiu’s ability, but Duoduo was clearly more relaxed in front of her.
At night, while she was sleeping, Grey Rabbit had some free time to talk about Duoduo.
She was a child with intellectual disabilities. She was simple-minded, with the intelligence of a normal toddler, about three or four years old. She didn’t speak very fluently, and she had a single-track mind.
She said that she had been wandering for a long time, she had spent many nights under the round moon. She didn’t know exactly how long, Duoduo didn’t have the concept of months or years.
She would usually pick up trash to eat, and she would sleep wherever she could find a place at night.
It was a miracle that she survived.
She wasn’t used to sleeping in a bed, and she couldn’t accept places without cover. Grey Rabbit had to spread a blanket on the floor and put up a set of curtains to cover the sleeping area. Only then did Duoduo go in and sleep peacefully.
She was a pitiful person.
“You still have a habit of picking up people,” Lu Mingqiu said.
Several people in the Yuecheng base were picked up by Grey Rabbit. This middle-aged man with a baby face had a more abundant kindness than others, especially towards children.
Not many people knew about his past, but Lu Mingqiu knew a little.
Grey Rabbit used to have a daughter, she died in a medical accident.
Of course, he later learned that it wasn’t a medical accident, it was a premeditated murder. They took his daughter’s organs and gave them to a rich person.
He had avenged his daughter, but the dead wouldn’t come back. Revenge was just the living making amends to themselves.
“Doesn’t the research department have a potion that can develop intelligence?” Lu Mingqiu said, “You can give it to her.”
Grey Rabbit was silent for a while, “In this world, what’s the point of being smart? It’s better to be happy like she is now.”
“..Well, I’ll think about it though.”
