Mental Illness Evolution Manual - Chapter 88
"And there you have it, folks! Another chapter conquered...or at least, not completely butchered. Please forgive any egregious errors; I blame the coffee (or lack thereof).
“You’re disobeying orders,” Black’s slightly distorted voice came through the earpiece, landing directly in White’s ears.
White’s eyes and eyebrows showed a hint of indifference, “Is that so? I just haven’t executed the order in time.”
The traffic outside the window was like stars, he looked at it indifferently, “Besides, aren’t I in the car now?”
Black indulged his younger brother, he couldn’t say a harsh word to him.
Besides, he had deliberately arranged for Lightning to follow him, just in case something like this happened.
White knew this very well.
So he still didn’t obey orders, it was hard to say it wasn’t intentional.
When will he grow up? What will you do if I’m gone?
These words were in Black’s heart, but he couldn’t say them out loud. Given his current state of being half-dead, half-alive, based on his understanding of his brother, if he said these words, it would only add fuel to the fire.
Black sighed, he said helplessly and weakly, “Don’t do this next time.”
The car drove all the way to the temporary safe house. White opened the door, jumped out, and sulked like a rebellious teenager.
Considering his age, perhaps puberty could explain the current situation.
Raspberry and Lightning followed behind him. The two of them looked at each other and shrugged. The latter made a gesture, pointing at the person in front of them.
Raspberry quickly shook her head, she wouldn’t dare to get involved in this.
While they were resting, new news came in. A group of people led by Grey Rabbit, the head of the Yuecheng base, had fought with the church, and the church had actually provided them with information.
It was Azberto’s whereabouts.
The church had done this kind of betrayal of allies many times.
The soil of the Federation had destined that the flowers of evil would bloom here. Terrorist organizations were as numerous as bamboo shoots after a spring rain. The church was able to survive, besides having the support of the tycoons behind it, its shamelessness was also a major reason.
Those who had cooperated with the church had never been spared. They would push their partners out to take the blame, use them to attract the Resistance’s attention. It was their specialty.
As the saying goes, “If your friend is going to die, let him die, but don’t let yourself die.” They had mastered the art of shifting the blame.
The Resistance had to willingly use themselves as knives, because these terrorist organizations were not good things. They had to be eliminated.
Everyone was happy, except for the unlucky partners. No one was hurt.
Azberto had to be dealt with, they couldn’t let his tyrannical rule succeed.
But the Resistance still needed to investigate whether the coordinates were real or fake. Although, based on past experience, there was an eighty percent chance that they were real, and a twenty percent chance that they were a trap.
But reality wasn’t a game, they couldn’t consider percentages, it was meaningless. They only had one chance.
But getting the coordinates meant that the church and Azberto’s cooperation had ended. Without the support of the mutated potion, only the war on the surface remained. It would depend on whether the Federation’s army was strong enough.
But after fighting the church for so many years, the Resistance also had its own preparations.
The person who told Grey Rabbit this news was a bishop in red. His voice was distorted by the device, it was impossible to tell if it was a man or a woman. He was also wearing a mask, his robe was wide, it was impossible to tell his figure.
To demonstrate his sincerity, the bishop, robed in red, met with Grey Rabbit face-to-face. Their proximity was such that Grey Rabbit could easily have done something—perhaps sprinkled something—on him.
A little powder, humans couldn’t smell it, but a new member of the Resistance could.
This was a poor girl that Grey Rabbit had saved. She was thin and bony, she was lying on the side of the road, covered in dirt. When Grey Rabbit saw her, she was barely breathing, she was about to starve to death.
He saved the little girl, gave her some food, and sent her to an orphanage. But he never expected to see her squatting at his doorstep the next day.
Grey Rabbit almost shot her.
He thought she was a special agent from an enemy organization, she had followed him and found his safe house.
But the girl didn’t hesitate when she saw him, she was visibly happy.
The two of them chatted for a while, their words didn’t make sense, but Grey Rabbit suddenly realized that she had awakened her ability. She had an incredibly sensitive nose, she had found him by smell.
The orphanage was about half the city away from here. She could find him, her ability level must be high. She looked only five or six years old, she had walked so far on foot, she was truly tenacious.
Grey Rabbit thought about it and kept her.
The little girl’s name was Duoduo.
After testing, her ability level was A-level. She didn’t have any other fancy abilities, she only had one, she could track scents. As long as she remembered the scent, she could definitely smell it, and she wouldn’t be disturbed by other scents.
In Duoduo’s own words, it was very obvious, like a meat bun.
The limit of this distance was 200 kilometers, the north-south distance of Yuecheng was only 190 kilometers.
The research department was stunned. They had never seen an ability with such a long effective distance. Was this the magic of a single ability?
No one could explain it. Abilities were unscientific, they had no rules.
Duoduo recognized Grey Rabbit as her adoptive father, she was very obedient to him. It was because of her that the organization came up with this plan.
Being able to sprinkle powder on the bishop in red was a pleasant surprise. They had originally planned to grab any member.
The bishop in red didn’t move for the time being, he just changed his base and stayed in Yuecheng. The Resistance rented a house in a nearby street, they let Grey Rabbit and Duoduo stake out the place.
On the other side, they planned to send someone to investigate the location of Azberto that they had been given.
Gaoshan City was a few days’ drive from Yuecheng, they needed to wait patiently. The person for this task was naturally the druid, Ge’er. He was the most suitable and the most covert.
The Resistance used to have another ability user who could hide himself in the shadows. He usually did this kind of work, but he had already died.
He died in an explosion.
But since the church had taken the initiative to show goodwill, they could stop the recent harassment.
If they continued, the church would start to fight back.
This kind of tacit understanding that naturally arose from fighting each other for so long was truly disgusting.
For the church, the lower-level personnel were expendable. They recruited people through brainwashing, they were never afraid of a shortage of people.
With faith as the carrot on the stick, there were plenty of donkeys running behind it.
But the Resistance was different. Every member was extremely important, they were inseparable companions. They wouldn’t sacrifice anyone if they could avoid it.
Yan Xianchuan had been eager to blow up the church with the explosives, but she received a notice to stop the operation. Her lips pouted, and she immediately became sulky.
Lu Mingqiu: “I’ll treat you to a banana boat.”
Yan Xianchuan held up a finger: “Plus a rack of lamb.”
Lu Mingqiu waved her hand: “No problem.”
