Mental Illness Evolution Manual - Chapter 85
"And there you have it, folks! Another chapter conquered...or at least, not completely butchered. Please forgive any egregious errors; I blame the coffee (or lack thereof).
Because of the license plate number, the perpetrator was quickly found. The policewoman told her that the culprit was a driver for the Li family. He had been driving a sports car and ran a red light, hitting her parents and then speeding away.
A driver.
Clearly a scapegoat.
The policewoman said in a roundabout way, “They gave a lot of compensation. The Li family is very influential in this city.”
And she was just an orphan who had lost her parents. Her family had some money, they were a middle-class family. To put it bluntly, they were ordinary people, they couldn’t fight the Li family.
The police chief’s last name was also Li.
Yan Xianchuan compromised. The lawyer who came to talk to her was satisfied with her attitude. As he left, he said that he would add another two hundred thousand to the compensation.
That was the most he could get.
Would Yan Xianchuan accept this outcome? Of course not.
She was a psychopath, utterly without conscience or fear of death. A person needs anchors, meaning, to truly live.
If everyone was a completely independent individual, with no attachment to the world, then they wouldn’t find death unbearable.
Because there’s nothing to care about, so what’s the difference between living and dying?
Leaving the police station, she began surveillance on the Li family, shadowing their movements. Evading security cameras, she planted a bug in their garage.
A calm and extremely proactive person can do unimaginable things.
She got the playboy’s schedule. He was going to a club to relax, he was still grumbling in the car, saying that his old man was making a fuss. The other side had already taken the money, why was he still making him stay at home?
The sports car roared, like a raging steel beast.
Yan Xianchuan entered the club through the front door. Membership was expensive, but it didn’t matter, she had money now.
Then she figured out the layout of the place, knocked out the waiter, changed into his clothes, and went to deliver wine to the culprit.
She was a new face, she was quickly exposed, but it didn’t matter, she didn’t need to stay here long.
How could a completely unprepared person, someone who had never been trained, avoid an assassination aimed at him?
He didn’t even look at the waiter who came to deliver the wine, he was focused on flirting with the woman next to him.
Yan Xianchuan directly stabbed him in the neck with a knife, she twisted it for good measure. The artery was cut open, blood spurted out, staining her clothes and scaring everyone in the private room. They screamed and scrambled away from her.
The private room was well soundproofed for better service.
She pushed open the door, no one tried to stop her. It was too scary, this was a murderer, who would dare to approach her?
She left the private room, she went up the stairs to the roof. The warm sunlight shone on her head, but it couldn’t stop the blood on her hands from gradually turning cold.
A few sparrows flew across the sky, only a few wisps of clouds floated in the sky.
A perfect sunny day.
Yan Xianchuan, from a god’s perspective, watched herself walk to the edge of the rooftop, put her legs over the edge, and sit on the roof, blowing in the wind.
The rest of the dream was gone, it disappeared, her world was spinning.
Yan Xianchuan opened her eyes and found Lu Mingqiu pressing down on her, her body close to hers, “What’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?”
She explained, “Your breathing suddenly became very rapid.”
Lu Mingqiu had been sleeping soundly, but the person next to her was breathing rapidly, her eyes were closed tightly, her chest was rising and falling violently. She woke up immediately and tried to wake the other person up.
People who have nightmares are prone to spasms, she was worried that the other person would struggle, so she pressed her down.
“I don’t know if it counts as a nightmare,” Yan Xianchuan answered in a daze, “I dreamed about the past.”
Although they were close to each other, she didn’t feel anything romantic in her heart.
“Bad things are nightmares,” Lu Mingqiu judged her current state, she made sure that she was completely awake, then she got off her, turned on the bedside lamp.
The dim light dispelled the darkness. Lu Mingqiu touched her forehead and said softly, “I’ll go get you a glass of water.”
Yan Xianchuan sat up silently, she didn’t stop her, she felt like she really needed to drink something.
Her mouth was a little dry, probably because she had been gasping for breath in her dream.
Lu Mingqiu came back with a glass of warm water. She thoughtfully didn’t ask her what nightmare she had. After she drank the water, she took the glass away.
“Don’t be afraid,” she said softly before turning off the light, “The past is over.”
She tucked the blanket in. Yan Xianchuan hummed and said thank you.
The next morning, the two of them went downstairs and had a simple breakfast, then they set off to scout the church’s base.
It was a meat processing plant, it was on the outskirts of the city, next to a few old apartment buildings and some bungalows. There weren’t many people on the street.
To be safe, they parked the car far away, put on their fishing rods, and pretended to be going fishing by the river.
There weren’t many employees coming in and out of the processing plant. The druid, Ge’er, turned into a small black spider and crawled in through the gap under the door.
Inside, there were all kinds of frozen meat, the smell of meat was very strong, you could smell it even without going inside.
The sound of the machines was obvious, it looked like mechanized processing. Frozen fresh meat was fed into a furnace through a pipe, it was squeezed into meat paste, and then transported away along another pipe.
Ge’er walked along the wall towards the inside. Before he could take a few steps, he suddenly felt his body stiffen, as if something had tied him up, he couldn’t move, he walked forward uncontrollably for two steps.
He was startled, he sensed something was wrong, he exerted himself and jumped back. The feeling of breaking free from the restraint was particularly obvious.
“Huh?”
A questioning voice came from inside.
Ge’er was startled, his eight legs flew out as he ran wildly. He was carrying a locator and a miniature camera, the people outside saw the image suddenly flip over and quickly approach the door, they knew something was wrong.
Lu Mingqiu said in a deep voice, “Prepare to intercept.”
At this point, they didn’t need to worry about being exposed.
The bard, Wandou, was assigned to guard the car because he was a little weak in combat.
The three of them approached the entrance of the processing plant in a fan shape. In less than two seconds, Ge’er darted out from under the door, he immediately turned into a long-bodied dog and was about to run.
But unexpectedly, a white thread, about the thickness of a finger, suddenly flew out from under the door, it directly wrapped around his hind leg. Ge’er was instantly pulled down and dragged back.
Seeing this, Jinhuan raised his hand and threw a round metal disc. It spun as it flew out, the edge was extremely sharp, it shone with silver light, and it directly cut through the thread that was wrapped around Ge’er’s hind leg.
Ge’er flapped around on the spot, then immediately stood up and continued to run.
Seeing him escape, Lu Mingqiu immediately ordered, “Retreat!”
“Don’t go,” a seductive and smooth female voice rang out, “Since you’re here, stay and play with me.”
The female voice laughed softly. As she spoke, the factory door swung open, a swarm of spiders poured out, their backs were covered with different patterns, they were colorful, and they were obviously poisonous.
The spiders ran and spun silk, in the blink of an eye, they had woven a large web, they were about to cover the group.
Yan Xianchuan wouldn’t just sit there and wait to die. She didn’t have any weapons on her, but that didn’t matter, because anything around her could be used as a weapon.
She pulled up the mottled and rusty street lamp, the cement cracked, the metal pole was still covered in sand at the bottom. Yan Xianchuan held the long pole and swung it at the spider web, then slammed it down. Some of the spiders dodged, those that didn’t were smashed to pieces, spewing out white and green goo.
Lu Mingqiu wouldn’t just watch either. When she saw the spider tide, she used her ability to sweep it away, but there was no reaction.
These spiders had no consciousness.
They were like corpses, they only obeyed the orders of their controller.
This was very different from the Insect Master’s ability.
The Insect Master controlled insects, he controlled the living insects around him. They had both form and spirit, so they could be killed by Lu Mingqiu.
But these spiders were pure products of ability. They had form, but no spirit. They were just a manifestation of ability.
Of course, they would only obey their master’s orders.
Lu Mingqiu’s heart sank slightly.
If Ge’er had been another species, he might not have been discovered. But he was a spider, so he was immediately noticed.
“My ability doesn’t work.”
Jinhuan calmly took out two gold bars from his bag and started to stretch and extend them with his ability. The gold bars became thinner and wider, like a board, blocking the spiders.
Yan Xianchuan only saw a purple skirt, then her vision was blocked by the spreading golden wall.
Because the surface was too smooth, it also prevented them from climbing directly.
This was a new use he had figured out. Besides requiring more physical strength, it had almost no drawbacks.
In Jinhuan’s imagination, he would even be able to go on missions with only gold bars in the future. If he needed to throw darts, he would take some gold and press it into thin sheets to use as darts.
The spiders were blocked, they started to swarm to both sides.
The three of them and the dog weren’t idle either, they turned and ran.
Just as they were about to run out, they suddenly heard a man’s voice, it wasn’t loud, but it was precisely transmitted to their ears, everyone could hear it clearly.
“Stop.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, everyone’s legs involuntarily stopped, as if they had been immobilized, they had no desire to continue running.
They just felt, why run? Isn’t it good to stay here?
Lu Mingqiu was the first to break free. She was a mental ability user herself, even if she was controlled, she would only be dazed for a moment before waking up.
“Go, go, go!” she shouted softly.
Her teammates didn’t react, they were dazed and confused. The dog that Ge’er had transformed into even stretched out its hind leg and kicked its ear.
Yan Xianchuan nodded, “Go.”
She said that, but her feet didn’t move.
The spiders behind them were constantly running towards them. Seeing this, Lu Mingqiu hardened her heart and directly used her mental power to form needles, she stabbed each of them in the head.
In the unbearable pain, everyone’s faces turned white, they shivered, but they also woke up.
Lu Mingqiu said with a grim expression, “It’s a mental ability user, they’re on par with me. Go, go, go.”
The few of them looked serious, they started to run again. Wandou was also driving over, the distance between them was constantly shrinking, they only needed to hold on for another minute.
The car had an RPG, they could directly fire a rocket if necessary.
Whether it was the spider swarm or the golden wall, the commotion was too loud. Even if the nearby residents didn’t call the police, the Investigation Department would arrive soon.
Both sides were underground organizations, they didn’t want to have anything to do with the authorities.
But they hadn’t run far before the voice rang out again.
“Immobilize.”
Lu Mingqiu did the same thing, waking everyone up.
The mental piercing was very effective, but it was also quite damaging. Jinhuan’s face turned white, cold sweat poured down his forehead.
He had already used a lot of physical strength to control the golden wall to block the spider swarm. Now he was clearly exhausted.
Yan Xianchuan was tough, she didn’t react at all.
But after this back and forth, the spiders caught up again.
Lu Mingqiu’s mental power extended backwards, trying to find the mental ability user on the other side, but she found nothing.
Her ability had high killing power, but in comparison, the distance wasn’t very far. Long-distance mental coordinates had no damage, perhaps this was a kind of balance.
I wonder if this ability user was the one who set up the mental barrier when they interrogated the prisoners in Walnut Town.
Mental ability users are rare, they’re not as common as cabbage. The probability is over ninety percent.
Yan Xianchuan was annoyed, she grabbed Jinhuan and said in an unfriendly tone, “Take down that golden wall.”
She saw an electric scooter parked on the side of the road, she ran a few steps, picked up the front of the scooter, turned around and saw a man in a red robe standing far behind the spider swarm.
Yan Xianchuan sneered, she raised the electric scooter above her head and threw it hard. The hundred-pound electric scooter flew out like a light frisbee, it flew straight towards the man in red.
The other party had probably never seen such a large projectile before. He no longer had the arrogant air he had just had, he ran to the side as if his feet were greased, his expression was completely broken.
Seeing that things were going badly, the woman in purple immediately controlled the spiders to build a wall, trying to block it.
The electric scooter crashed into the spider wall, but it didn’t slow down. It was covered in goo, but it still ran towards the man in red.
The latter ran fast, the electric scooter wasn’t that big, he barely grazed it, it didn’t hit him.
He was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when another bicycle flew over.
The man in red’s face turned green, he scrambled to run back into the factory.
He had never done any physical labor, he wasn’t fast, he was hit in the heel.
Although it was just a graze, it was a pain he had never experienced before. The man in red’s face contorted, he held back a scream, he limped back and saw that Yan Xianchuan was actually holding up a car.
He was so scared that he immediately shouted, “Stop!”
But he didn’t see her stop, the man in red immediately realized that he was out of the range of his ability.
He didn’t care about his dignity, he scrambled back into the factory. As soon as he went in, he heard a loud thud. The car crashed to the ground, the alarm went off, and one of the doors fell off, hanging crookedly on the car.
The woman in purple looked straight ahead, pretending not to see the bishop’s embarrassing moment.
The troublemakers had already run away, they couldn’t catch them. She raised her hand and summoned the spiders. They gathered together, layer upon layer, they jumped onto her palm, and finally turned into a red spider, about the size of a palm.
She put the red spider on her shoulder, she walked around the broken car and back into the factory, she asked, “Bishop, should we move? The Investigation Department might come.”
The bishop in red’s face turned cold, he stood up straight, “Let’s go.”
He was about to turn around when he felt a sharp pain in his heel. He restrained himself from grimacing, his eyebrows twitched as he walked towards the inside of the factory.
Jinhuan had already seen Yan Xianchuan throw a stone block, so he was used to her lifting a car. After all, she was a strength ability user, it was normal for her to do this.
It was Wandou, who came to intercept them, who was startled. Ge’er was too.
Although ability users have their own unique abilities, the scene of this tall, thin woman casually lifting a car and using it as a projectile was still too visually shocking.
Besides, Yan Xianchuan didn’t even feel tired, throwing a car was as easy as throwing a tennis ball.
The few of them got in the car and ran away like thieves. Ge’er also turned back into human form, he sat in the chair and gasped for breath, still feeling a little scared.
He could run much faster on four legs than his two-legged teammates.
But to Lu Mingqiu’s surprise, the Investigation Department didn’t come. They couldn’t have not known that there were ability users fighting here. There was only one explanation—the church had infiltrated the Investigation Department.
Lu Mingqiu wasn’t surprised. It was only natural for them to have people in the government departments. Wasn’t the Resistance even more absurd?
One of its leaders was the Minister of Finance.
Not only that, Lu Mingqiu had some guesses about the true founders of the Resistance, but she hadn’t confirmed them yet.
It didn’t matter who founded the organization, what mattered was that they shared the same ideology. That was enough.
