Mental Illness Evolution Manual - Chapter 60

Neither of the two people present spoke. The Insect Master was even more flustered. He didn’t want to die. Greed for life was his life motto, his true reflection.
“I’ve only been in Walnut Town for two years, and I don’t know much about it. I’m not allowed to go above ground, and I’m not allowed to go outside. I’ve been underground all day, I’ve never even seen the lab!”
He raised his hand, his three fingers together pointed towards the sky, he said confidently, “I swear, if I lie even a little, may I die without a whole body!”
“You want us to believe you, just relying on your mouth won’t do.” Gray Rabbit said calmly.
The Insect Master’s eyes rolled, “Of course, of course, I’m truly willing to surrender. I’ll also tell you about some of the church’s situation.”
“What aspects do you want to know?”
“Just say it.” Lu Mingqiu said.
Don’t play this trick of answering whatever you ask and not answering if you don’t ask.
The Insect Master, with a thick face, smiled and said, “The church has three archbishops, each responsible for a different jurisdiction, one in the north, one in the east, and one in the south. There’s also a Pope above them, I only know this, I’ve never seen them.”
“I’ve only met one archbishop, Holy Word. They say he’s the mouthpiece of the Mother Goddess Itaru in the human world, he spreads her divine pronouncements. He’s in charge of the northern jurisdiction.”
“The church originally had four level A psionics, the Gatekeeper, Arman, is dead.” He looked up at the two people sitting, “He died at the hands of the Resistance. There’s also me, the only one I know of is called Red Spider, but I don’t know what her ability is.”
“It’s true, I’m not lying.” The Insect Master said with a wry smile, “After the chip incident, how dare I be clever. Psionics seem glamorous, but they actually don’t have access to church affairs. We’re just a group of pampered thugs. We’re well-fed and well-dressed, but once they need us to die, we have to die one after another.”
“Anything else?” Gray Rabbit remained unmoved, he continued to ask.
“I’ve been in the church for almost four years, I’ve only been active in the underground base.” The Insect Master licked his lips, he said hesitantly, “I have… a criminal record, I can’t be seen.”
“Do you know the locations of the church’s bases?” Gray Rabbit asked.
The Insect Master remained silent, his eyes were flustered.
“You don’t know.” Gray Rabbit said confidently.
“Their recent plans? Their latest experimental projects?” Gray Rabbit asked again.
The Insect Master still couldn’t open his mouth, sweat beaded on his nose.
“Your surrender is not very sincere.” Gray Rabbit said blandly.
After a while, seeing that he still wouldn’t speak, Gray Rabbit waved his hand.
“It’s not that I don’t want to say, it’s that I really don’t know!” The Insect Master shouted in panic, a drop of cold sweat dripped down his forehead, “They don’t tell me anything.”
He swallowed dryly, his pupils flickered nervously, “I know they have a base in Yuecheng, and they also have one in Kurtz. I only know these two bases in the north.”
“Also… also…” He stammered for a while, seeing that Gray Rabbit was about to raise his hand again, he quickly shouted, “I also know one thing, it happened two years ago, a big shot came to inspect Kurtz, I heard them say that the breeding plan was almost mature.”
“That’s it, really, that’s it.” He couldn’t squeeze out any other information, “But I can serve you! I’m also a level A psionic, my ability is to control insects. With me joining, you won’t lose!”
“We need to consider it.” Gray Rabbit stood up and patted the nonexistent dust on his clothes, “I’ll give you an answer in two days.”
The Insect Master instantly breathed a sigh of relief, he felt relieved. In his opinion, this was a sign of agreement.
Level A psionics, they were rare, what organization would refuse? It was just that he had been in the church before, and there were some internal concerns, but they would come around.
The Insect Master wiped the sweat off his face, he confidently raised the corner of his mouth, he followed the guards to the detention room.
Lu Mingqiu looked at his retreating back and said softly, “I don’t believe what he said, not because what he said was false, but because his vision is narrow, he can’t see anything.”
Gray Rabbit shrugged, “He’s just a fool who’s obsessed with pleasure and self-indulgence. We’ll see for ourselves when the brain machine arrives. Don’t use your psionic ability to probe, you’ll get hurt again.”
“This trip to Walnut Town was too risky.” The disapproval in his tone was faint, but Lu Mingqiu could hear it, “You’re always cautious, you shouldn’t put yourself in danger, this isn’t like you.”
“Is it because of her?” Gray Rabbit looked from afar at a tall woman running towards them happily, not even sparing him a glance, her eyes fixed on Yellow Canary, as if they hadn’t seen each other in a lifetime.
“I know my actions this time were a bit reckless.” Lu Mingqiu smiled at the woman running towards them, “I won’t do it again.”
Gray Rabbit let out a long sigh, a super-long sigh.
Yan Xianchuan looked at him. In her memory, this kind of sigh usually happened when her father’s team lost a game, and he would often add, “My youth!”
She had heard this phrase since she could remember, all the way to high school graduation.
This person was wearing a mask, his face was hidden, but his voice was wrinkled, as if he had eaten a plate of bitter melon, and the melon had been soaked in bile.
“Sigh…” He sighed heavily, “I’m not criticizing you, just use your own judgment.”
After saying that, he sighed again, shook his head and walked away, his hands behind his back, only at this moment did he look like an old cadre.
Yan Xianchuan: “Who is he?”
“My former instructor.” Lu Mingqiu said, a smile blooming on her face, “Come with me, let me see your eyes.”
She reached out and pulled the person back to the interrogation room, closing the door. She took a step closer, the two of them were almost touching, then she reached out and touched Yan Xianchuan’s ear.
The projected fake face flashed, revealing her real eyes. The deep black pupils were hidden in the equally deep irises, her long, straight eyelashes didn’t blink, she just stared straight ahead.
“Are you getting used to these eyes? Is there anything uncomfortable?” Lu Mingqiu asked with concern.
“No.” Yan Xianchuan stared at her blankly, “The eyes are very useful.”
“That’s good.” Lu Mingqiu seemed very happy, she pinched her earlobe again, pulling back a little,
“How are your injuries?”
A blush crept onto Yan Xianchuan’s cheeks, she silently rolled up her sleeves and extended her arm.
“They’re almost healed.” Lu Mingqiu observed for a moment, she nodded, “I don’t have anything to do, are you going? Or do you want to walk around the base a little more?”
Yan Xianchuan immediately shook her head, “I don’t want to walk around. Wherever you go, I’ll go with you.”
“Then let’s go.” Lu Mingqiu seemed very happy, the smile on her face never faded, “Let’s go home, get some sleep first, and go out for a late-night snack tonight, let’s treat our stomachs.”
She pulled out a piece of candy from her pocket as if by magic, “I saw a bag on someone’s desk before, so I stole two.”
She naturally grabbed the person’s hand and put the candy in her palm, “It’s strawberry flavored.”
Yan Xianchuan’s brain was about to melt from this series of interactions.
So strange, what is this, is this how friends interact? But thinking about it carefully, there was nothing out of line. On the street, you often see two girls walking hand in hand, hugging each other, and they’re just friends.
Her face was red as if she had a fever, and so were her earlobes.
When she was a sheep, she didn’t feel shy when she was touched on the head, rubbed on the ears, or patted on the back. These hands stroking her fur were like a hot spring massage, making her so comfortable that she would snore.
But she was so close, their breaths were merging, her eyes, like the sea reflecting the sky, her concern turned into the dazzling sunlight on the surface of the sea, making her dizzy and weak.
Yan Xianchuan fumbled to unwrap the candy wrapper, it took her twice as long as usual to tear off the pink wrapper, she took out the pink and white candy ball inside and put it in her mouth, she mumbled in agreement, “Mmm…”
“Yuecheng is a very old city.”
The two of them walked out of the base, they turned around in the alleyway, and when they came out again, they were right on a snack street.
Red round lanterns were hung all over the street, with tassels and lucky knots hanging below. The street was bustling with people, the aroma of various foods filled the air, it looked festive and lively.
Lu Mingqiu introduced, “Its history can be traced back thousands of years. We have nothing to do these days, we can go for a walk together. Yuecheng’s zoo has peacocks and pandas.”
Okay, the zoo. Yan Xianchuan nodded randomly without thinking. It wasn’t just the zoo, even if she was invited to swim in a pool of hydrochloric acid now, she would agree without hesitation.
“There are too many people here.” Lu Mingqiu thought for a moment and said, “Do you want to hold hands? I’m afraid you’ll get lost.”
Is today my birthday or something? Yan Xianchuan thought dazedly, but she didn’t forget to answer loudly, “Yes!”
The next second, a hand reached out and took her hand. The owner of the hand smiled at her, her expression was calm, she pulled her into the crowd.
“The snacks on this street are all pretty good, but you just ate, how about a cup of milk tea? Do you want to try it?”
The two of them walked side by side, perhaps because it was too noisy, afraid that Yan Xianchuan wouldn’t be able to hear, Lu Mingqiu leaned over and spoke close to her ear.
“I want to try.” Yan Xianchuan had completely lost her ability to think, she had become a robot who could only nod.
The air conditioning in the milk tea shop blew on her, she briefly regained her mind, she suddenly thought of something important, “Did you have lunch?”
“Not yet.” Lu Mingqiu replied truthfully.
“Let’s eat first.” Yan Xianchuan said seriously.
So the two of them, each holding a cup of milk tea, walked hand in hand into a shop.
“A bowl of duck blood vermicelli, normal spice level.” Lu Mingqiu said to the waiter.
“Don’t you want to order anything else? Our braised duck head and duck neck are delicious.” The waiter leaned over and asked.
“Do you want to eat?” Lu Mingqiu turned to look at Yan Xianchuan sitting opposite her.
And Yan Xianchuan, of course, nodded, “I want to eat.” As she spoke, she took a sip of the milk tea in her hand, she chewed the pearls slowly, her cheeks puffed up.
So sweet, the milk tea is so sweet, the pearls are also so sweet. It must have been mixed with alcohol, otherwise, why was she so tipsy.
