"And there you have it, folks! Another chapter conquered...or at least, not completely butchered. Please forgive any egregious errors; I blame the coffee (or lack thereof).

It was obvious that the church people had used some unknown method to confine the entire town’s population.

Before Mirror had discovered them transporting goods by chance, she didn’t know how long this confinement had been going on.

Lu Mingqiu believed that the church had moved bases hundreds or even thousands of times.

If she had known earlier that they were plotting something so significant, Lu Mingqiu wouldn’t have killed any of the members of the bar branch; she didn’t want to raise any alarms for the enemy.

Fortunately, according to her previous preparations, she pretended that she had gotten the relevant information from the outskirts of the wharf, and she decided to launch a surprise attack that day.

The five captured people were brainwashed and then released, the new memories implanted in their brains would overwrite the old ones, making them forget what had happened.

In the days that followed, to be on the safe side, the Resistance would send people to kill them one by one.

Hopefully, this would make the church relax their guard.

The drone disguised as a sparrow spread its wings and flew up, it circled the town, it saw four groups of people delivering food, one group in each of the four directions, dividing the entire town into four areas.

Why did the church people go to such great lengths to control all the people in the town? And it didn’t seem like they had turned all the residential buildings into prisons, so what method did the church use to make the townspeople obey?

There must be a big secret hidden here.

She shouldn’t be taking such a risk, she should retreat immediately. Thinking about this, Lu Mingqiu was about to summon the drone back, but just then, a few more people walked out of the wall, they were wearing yellow protective suits, like spacesuits, they were completely covered from head to toe, the protective suits they were wearing were obviously not the same level as the ones worn by the people who had delivered the food before.

This time, they were thicker and tighter.

Lu Mingqiu knew this style, it had excellent sealing properties, it was mostly used in experiments involving radioactive materials.

The hand that was inputting the instructions paused in mid-air, it was this brief moment of hesitation that caused something she never expected to happen.

The two people in yellow protective suits squatted down, they took out something and put it on the ground, then they went back into the wall.

The drone was about to zoom in on the picture, when it saw green gas erupting from the device, it grew with the wind, and in an instant, it spread over a range of several meters, the green mist was getting faster and faster, it was constantly eating outwards, in just a few blinks of an eye, it covered the entire town, and it was still spreading outwards.

Yan Xianchuan: “I think we should go.”

As soon as she finished speaking, the thick fog had already spread over the farmland and was heading towards the river.

Lu Mingqiu: “Go!”

The two of them ran as fast as they could, it was easier to go down the mountain than to go up, they used the slope of the mountain, they flew down like the wind.

They could see the path where they had parked the car in front of them, but Yan Xianchuan heard a buzzing sound in her ears, she felt inexplicably irritable, she was about to continue running, but she heard a heavy object fall behind her.

She turned her head sharply and found that Lu Mingqiu had fallen into the dead leaves, broken leaves and black soil were stuck to her body. Her eyes were wide open, her eyes were bloodshot, she was hunched over, her back was bent, like a cooked shrimp, and her hands were tightly clutching her head, as if there was a monster inside that was trying to crawl out, launching an invisible attack on her brain.

Yan Xianchuan quickly ran over and helped her up, “What’s wrong?”

Lu Mingqiu gritted her teeth, her teeth rubbed against each other, she squeezed out a few words, “It’s a sonic expulsion.”

Yan Xianchuan didn’t quite understand, but she could tell from her words that it was some kind of device that drove people away.

Unlike Lu Mingqiu’s violent reaction, she just felt a little uncomfortable.

She put the person in her arms down, she walked a few steps forward, the further she went, the more irritable she felt, it was as if she was hallucinating, there was a buzzing sound in her brain, and her body also felt uncomfortable, as if the things in her chest had their own consciousness, they wanted to jump out of her throat one by one.

She was already feeling this strongly, Lu Mingqiu must have felt it even more intensely.

Yan Xianchuan quickly walked back, she picked up Lu Mingqiu, “If we run through this area quickly, can you hold on?”

Lu Mingqiu took a few deep breaths and said softly, “The closer we get, the stronger it is, it will directly shatter my internal organs.”

They had been delayed for a while, the green mist had already climbed up the hill where they had been, it was rolling down.

And they were in a forest, as far as the eye could see, there were only trees, there was no sealed space to hide.

Facing the unknown mist, Yan Xianchuan wasn’t panicked, what she was really worried about was the person in her arms.

As she hesitated, the green mist had already swallowed half the way, it was right in front of them.

She hugged the person, she could feel the other person’s heart beating violently, “Give me the drone’s permissions.” she said.

Lu Mingqiu didn’t say anything, the previous conversation had already exhausted almost all of her energy.

The permissions were transferred, the next moment, Yan Xianchuan hugged her tightly, she walked towards the thick fog.

They couldn’t leave, facing the green mist was something that would happen sooner or later, if that was the case, there was no need to stay here any longer, to let Lu Mingqiu suffer.

The swirling green tide silently engulfed them.

The mist was wispy and had no smell, it was as if someone had simply done an experiment, dyeing the air with color. Yan Xianchuan took a few deep breaths, she carefully felt, she didn’t notice any unusual changes in her body.

She looked down at Lu Mingqiu, away from the range of the sonic expulsion, the other party’s condition was slightly better, the thick fog didn’t seem to have any effect on her.

“How are you feeling?” Yan Xianchuan still asked.

“I’m still normal for now.” Lu Mingqiu moved her legs, she got out of her arms, when her feet touched the ground, she stumbled unsteadily, fortunately, Yan Xianchuan was still holding her arm, she didn’t fall to the ground.

The church people wouldn’t release this thing for no reason, it must have some kind of purpose.

The sparrow drone was still running, Yan Xianchuan controlled it, she made it fly high, observing the town that was first enveloped by the green mist.

This mist definitely wasn’t poison, if the church wanted to kill people, they wouldn’t use such a troublesome method, besides, the sonic expulsion device was still on, this was a method used to prevent people inside from coming out.

Quiet.

The town was eerily silent, as if it were lifeless. The stillness was deeply unsettling; it wasn’t a deathly silence but rather felt like the calm before a storm.

“We have to go into the town.” Yan Xianchuan said.

“We need to hide, and we need food, we can’t stay in the forest forever.” Lu Mingqiu was injured, her brain, which she hadn’t used for a long time, started to work, “The church is conducting an experiment, it will be very dangerous to be exposed in the wild.”

And the other party needed a place to rest.

The church people must be closely monitoring the town, how could they get in?

She didn’t even know where the surveillance cameras were, if Black was here… Thinking about this, Yan Xianchuan opened her contact list, but she found that the signal was gone.

Along with the sonic weapon being turned on, there was also a signal jammer.

“Let’s wait outside for a while and see what happens.” She glanced at the picture transmitted back by the drone, she supported Lu Mingqiu and moved towards the town.

The instant Lu Mingqiu’s signal was lost, Black’s subsystem reported a loss of contact. He immediately sounded the alarm and dispatched a rescue team.

In this era of widespread internet use, how could there be a place where you couldn’t receive the internet, unless it was man-made. When it came to Yellow Canary, it was never too cautious, even if it turned out to be a false alarm, it was better to waste resources and mobilize people, than to make a mistake.

Lu Mingqiu wasn’t here, he was the highest authority.

Black didn’t make a big fuss about finding people, he just sent messages to the selected members, asking them to return to the Nanjin City base. Bai Ge was also on his notification list.

Since Black’s consciousness had been uploaded, his younger brother, Bai Ge, had become depressed, he stayed in his room all day long, he didn’t go out. In the last few missions, Lu Mingqiu had considered his state and hadn’t called him.

Black would talk to him every day, just like they used to, but Bai Ge would always ignore him. He was helpless in the face of his younger brother.

Were it not for Yellow Canary’s potential predicament—a matter of serious importance—he wouldn’t have contacted Bai Ge.

When his message was sent, Bai Ge was lying on the sofa, he was holding a yellow-green tennis ball, he kept throwing it up and catching it.

Over a month, the chubby boy had quickly become thin, the flesh on his cheeks had disappeared, his chin had become pointed, he looked very cold. His silver-gray short hair had grown long, but he hadn’t cut it, it was scattered messily on the pillow.

Black’s projection appeared quietly in the living room, he looked at him, he didn’t speak at first.

Bai Ge didn’t look at him, he was still playing catch with the ball.

“There’s a mission, I need you.” After a pause, Black spoke, his voice as calm and steady as it had been in life—a comforting presence, like a brother, a steadfast backbone.

“What mission?” Bai Ge finally glanced at him.

“Yellow Canary has lost contact, it’s a serious matter, I need you to lead a team to investigate the situation.” Black raised his hand and swiped it, a map appeared, he pointed to the location of Walnut Town, “She was originally going to investigate the church’s actions here, just now, my connection with her suddenly broke, and I can’t receive feedback from the subsystem.”

Bai Ge’s eyes moved, he sat up from the sofa, “The church…”

As if something was surging in his eyes, Bai Ge asked softly, “When do we leave?”

“Pepper and Gold Ring will go with you, wait for them to return to the base, you’ll take the airship directly there.” Black said,

“Okay.” Bai Ge said, he immediately stood up and walked towards the door.

“You…” Black opened his mouth, he could see his younger brother’s abnormality, but Bai Ge was a level A psionic, he was a formidable fighter, it was inevitable that he would lead the team.

But he was still a little worried, not for any other reason, but because he was too concerned about the church.

Black wanted to say something to make him stay calm and cautious, but he couldn’t say it when it reached his lips, “Remember to take some equipment from the armory.”

“……I will.” Bai Ge’s hand holding the doorknob tightened.

He opened the door and went out, as he closed the door, he seemed to hear a sigh.

Black’s projection was still standing in the living room, all the cameras in the base were his eyes, he could see Bai Ge walking in the corridor, he could see the flames of revenge in his eyes.

Even if he said comforting words a thousand times, he wasn’t completely alive now.

After his consciousness was uploaded, the mental connection between the two of them was broken. They had been dependent on each other for so many years, they hadn’t considered that one day they would be separated from each other, and in such a tragic way.

Black sighed again, he silently retracted his projection, he habitually went to remind Bai Ge, he introduced him to the new equipment in the armory, he helped him choose the right equipment to carry.

It was just that before, it was through a mental connection, but now, it was through a screen, he had to send him messages one by one.
