"And there you have it, folks! Another chapter conquered...or at least, not completely butchered. Please forgive any egregious errors; I blame the coffee (or lack thereof).

He had only been in contact with the Holy Healing Church for a little over a month, and they had already offered him a condition he couldn’t refuse – a psionic enhancement potion.

Poison Sting initially didn’t believe it at all. Psionic abilities were extremely uncontrollable, no one knew how they were generated, what their relationship was with the human body, or how they were upgraded.

The common theory was that people who had suffered major changes, who gained psionic abilities in desperate situations, were more likely to have them. There was also the theory that people with strong souls were more likely to possess psionic abilities.

But these were all guesses. Some people woke up one day with psionic abilities, their appearance was completely unpredictable.

As for how to upgrade psionic abilities, it was all up to fate. One known method was to use psionic abilities frequently, like increasing skill proficiency in a game, when the experience bar was full, it would naturally level up.

But this method wasn’t entirely useful.

There was no practical method for upgrading psionic abilities anywhere in the world, something that people could follow and become stronger.

The Holy Healing Church showed him a virtual dream, in which the protagonist injected a potion and actually became stronger, which was simply unbelievable.

Poison Sting couldn’t refuse this temptation. His psionic ability was only D-level, although it sounded scary, it could cause small-scale explosions for any weapon he handled, for example, the bullets fired from a gun would be like self-destructing bullets.

But a low psionic level meant a short usage time and low power, it was far less useful in practice than it seemed.

Becoming stronger was Poison Sting’s obsession, if he could get this potion, his psionic ability would increase by one level, and its power would almost double.

And what he had to do was very simple, just pass on a message.

Last time, Yellow Canary’s operation didn’t notify the other members, he only knew about it after the operation was over.

The people from the Holy Healing Church promised that as long as he helped pass on two messages, they would give him a potion.

This time, he knew about Black and White’s operation, so he took the opportunity to leak the information.

But Poison Sting never expected that just one failed operation would cause Yellow Canary to make such a big fuss, she was actually going to do a full staff review.

The Holy Healing Church gave him a device, saying that it could overwrite memories and cover up mental fluctuations. He relied on this to avoid the mental imprint alarm, but whether he could fool Yellow Canary herself, he had no idea.

When she wasn’t on a mission, Yellow Canary rarely stayed at the base, but whenever she did, she would greet people, she was very kind. But once she went on a mission, she was like a different person, she was serious, cold, and reckless, she wouldn’t say a word more than necessary.

Poison Sting had followed her once, just that once, the scene of her using her mental power to make a circle of enemies fall like harvested wheat was deeply etched in his mind.

Of the three leaders in the organization, Yellow Canary was the one who showed up the most, she seemed to be the most approachable, but she was also the most untouchable.

One by one, people went in and out, finally it was his turn. Everyone’s eyes were on him, he pretended to be fearless because he was innocent, he calmly pushed open the silver metal door and sat down on the only empty chair in the room.

“You’ve been waiting a long time, are you okay?” Lu Mingqiu said.

“As long as I can clear my suspicions, this little time is nothing.” Poison Sting brushed his short hair, he pretended to be curious and asked, “Do you have any suspects?”

“You’ll know after you’ve seen everyone once.” Lu Mingqiu said, “Now relax your mind, don’t resist, it will be over soon.”

Poison Sting closed his eyes and prayed to all the gods and deities he knew, from ancient times to the present.

A few minutes later, he heard her calm and gentle voice, “You can go.”

Poison Sting breathed a sigh of relief, stood up and was about to leave, he had just turned around when he heard the person behind him call out to him again.

“Wait.”

Poison Sting turned around, his palm slowly clenched in his pocket, “What’s wrong?”

“No drinking the day before a mission, I still remember that you almost messed things up because of drinking last time, if it happens again, you’ll go to the confinement room.” Lu Mingqiu said.

“Oh,” Poison Sting smiled, “I definitely won’t do it again, don’t worry, boss.”

“Go, call the next one.” Lu Mingqiu waved her hand.

He came out of the interrogation room unscathed, he naturally joined the group of people who were discussing, and like them, he stared at the remaining people with suspicious eyes.

At 3:30 in the morning, everyone had been through.

Lu Mingqiu walked out behind the last person, stood at the head again, and the voices of discussion gradually lowered.

“I’m glad that most of us are still reliable comrades.”

As soon as she said this, everyone immediately dispersed, their eyes constantly scanning the people around them.

“But I’m also heartbroken, someone betrayed their ideals and beliefs, forgot the reason why we gathered here, forgot their own original intentions.”

“Because he felt he couldn’t defeat the enemy, he chose to become a ghoul instead, betraying his own people. If we had been even a minute slower in evacuating, we would have suffered a painful loss of personnel.”

Her gaze swept across the faces of everyone present, finally stopping on a man in work clothes, an ordinary person.

The man, under her gaze, immediately contorted his face, his snot and tears smeared across his pale, terrified face, but he still walked out step by step, as if he were a puppet, unable to help himself.

“Victor, I remember you joined Starfire last March because the company’s executives took your lover, kidnapped her and used her as a lab rat.”

“In May, we destroyed the experimental base and rescued many innocent people, including your wife. Half a month later, she passed away, we even held a memorial service.”

“The Holy Healing Church is the chaebols’ puppet—everyone knows that. And you? You chose to help your enemy, to betray your friends and family.”

“I want you to tell me the reason with your own mouth.”

Victor stood in the center of the crowd, like a condemned criminal, and like the only sane person among fools.

His body was no longer under his control, only his head could turn left and right, make expressions, and speak.

Under the gaze of everyone’s hatred and fury, he suddenly burst into laughter, laughing until tears flew out, laughing until his voice was hoarse.

“The people from the Church told me that people have souls.” He said in a broken voice, “Everyone’s soul has different qualities, they can help me find Pearl’s reincarnation.”

“You believed it.” Lu Mingqiu said calmly.

“Should I not believe it?” Victor’s eyes were filled with sarcasm, his face showed a mixture of sadness and fanaticism, a desperate gamble, “I know you’re all laughing at me in your hearts, thinking that this reason, this explanation is ridiculous.”

“But what if there was a way, a chance to see the people you’ve lost again? Wouldn’t that move you? Wouldn’t you want that?”

“I have to believe it.” Victor said, “And I don’t regret it.”

“I’m not moved.” Pepper said, her blackened lips were tightly pursed, “This is blatant betrayal, for a vague reason, to satisfy your own desires, to make yourself feel better, you treat other people’s lives as air! The first rule of the organization’s training is to never abandon your comrades.”

“I’m afraid that in your heart, we are nothing at all.” She sneered, “To destroy the lab, Ping’an was in the intensive care unit for a month before he recovered, Li Zi had both his legs replaced with prosthetics, when you did all this, did you feel guilty towards us!”

“In the end, you’re just selfish.”

Victor’s lips trembled, he couldn’t speak.

She walked over and pulled off a brooch from Victor’s pocket, “You don’t deserve this gift.”

She threw the brooch directly into the trash can, Pepper turned and left.
