Chapter 5: Bai Yingxuan
***
As the young woman drew closer, Tang Xiaorou’s memory began to stir slightly.
Bai Yingxuan, in Tang Xiaorou’s memories, she didn’t seem to have much interaction with this young woman, and her impression of her wasn’t quite like this.
In her previous life, Bai Yingxuan had never displayed such a wealthy family background. Instead, she had maintained an extremely low profile at school, never participating in any activities except those related to academics, and was rarely seen otherwise.
What was going on here? It couldn’t be that in her previous life, Bai Yingxuan had been hiding her true identity, pretending to be an ordinary student.
If that was the case, why wasn’t she pretending anymore? Tang Xiaorou and Yu Chuyao hadn’t done anything that should concern her.
“Do you know her?” Yu Chuyao noticed Tang Xiaorou’s very serious expression, giving the impression that there was some history between them.
How could Tang Xiaorou possibly have history with someone she’d barely met a few times? She simply believed that these differences from her previous life must have a cause.
“I don’t know her, but I feel she’s not as kind and gentle as she appears on the surface.”
Looking at Bai Yingxuan now, walking around campus like some family’s young lady but without any airs, presenting a dignified and harmonious appearance, it was very likely just a persona maintained for social purposes. Her true self was probably only known to Tang Xiaorou, the kind of person who barely socialized at school in her previous life.
People who are skilled at disguising themselves are the most frightening.
“Is that so?” Yu Chuyao didn’t understand, but she figured she probably wouldn’t have much contact with this kind of person anyway.
Unless they were in the same major.
The two of them didn’t have much feeling about Bai Yingxuan, but the surrounding students were either curious or envious, or harboring other small thoughts.
“Wow, so that’s the young lady of the Bai family? She’s really beautiful, and I don’t even recognize the brand of those clothes.”
“Of course. The luxury brands we competed to buy in high school probably look like street market goods in her eyes.”
“I think if I could win over a young lady like that, I wouldn’t mind marrying into her family.”
“Hey! You’re dreaming! You want all the good things for yourself?”
Most people maintained a fondness for such a beautiful girl, and their discussions were full of admiring and friendly words.
Now that she understood the situation, Tang Xiaorou pulled Yu Chuyao back to the sunshade canopy where they had been registering. This kind of commotion was worth looking at briefly, but there was no point in staying there longer, they weren’t seeking anything from Bai Yingxuan.
No matter how good someone else’s conditions might be, to the two of them, she was still an outsider.
On this point, Tang Xiaorou, who had already set her heart on Yu Chuyao alone, would never waver.
“Hello senior, where do I sign up for the Chinese Language and Literature major?” Tang Xiaorou asked one of the seated seniors. Seeing two such beautiful freshmen arriving this year, the senior immediately perked up: “Over here, over here! Just sign right here!”
However, only Yu Chuyao needed to sign. When the senior saw Yu Chuyao finish signing and filling out her information before handing it back, she looked at Tang Xiaorou with confusion: “Aren’t you registering too, freshman?”
She doesn’t look that much older? Surely she’s not just accompanying someone from another school?
“Me? I’m in the Law School,” Tang Xiaorou shrugged.
What a pity, the senior thought with regret. She had been hoping that two such beautiful freshmen would be joining their department together, and she would definitely have recruited them into the department’s organizations.
But one was enough, a person should know how to be content.
However, just as Yu Chuyao and Tang Xiaorou finished filling out their information and were about to collect the dormitory keys before heading to complete Tang Xiaorou’s registration, Bai Yingxuan, who had been surrounded by people earlier, suddenly appeared behind them.
“Hello, is this where I register for Chinese Language and Literature, Class 1?”
What?! (゜ロ゜)
Yu Chuyao turned around to see Bai Yingxuan inquiring behind her. Just moments ago, she had been thinking she probably wouldn’t have any interaction with this wealthy young lady and was planning to forget about her like a stranger, but now suddenly she had become her classmate…
As Yu Chuyao looked toward Bai Yingxuan, the latter was also examining this beautiful girl standing in front of her.
Very beautiful, this was her first impression of both Yu Chuyao and Tang Xiaorou beside her. So beautiful that she thought they might be young ladies from some prominent families who had also been admitted to S University, but from their clothing and appearance, that didn’t seem to be the case.
Though their clothes were of good brands and not cheap, they didn’t reach the same level as hers.
That was impressive, who knew how they maintained such appearances.
But as their eyes met for longer, Yu Chuyao noticed that the other girl’s gaze suddenly changed from curiosity to vigilance, as if she were some villain trying to snatch something away from Bai Yingxuan’s hands.
Sister, we don’t even know each other, why the hostility?
And now they were going to be in the same class. Headache. Would it be difficult to get along in the future?
Fortunately, when Bai Yingxuan finished filling out her information and was about to get her dormitory key, she discovered they weren’t in the same dormitory.
Moreover, Bai Yingxuan directly asked: “How do I apply to the counselor if I don’t want to live on campus?”
That was great news, it seemed they wouldn’t have much contact outside of class.
Bai Yingxuan’s question also reminded Tang Xiaorou.
It seemed living off-campus was possible.
Although the process of applying to live off-campus would be troublesome, for someone like her who had already attended university here once, it wasn’t difficult, just a matter of spending a bit more time.
There was no rush, they could take it slowly. After all, just the military training alone would take more than a week.
“Do you think she doesn’t like me?” Yu Chuyao watched as Bai Yingxuan, having completed her registration, left with her people, and quietly asked Tang Xiaorou beside her.
“What makes you think that?” Tang Xiaorou didn’t care what attitude Bai Yingxuan had, as long as she didn’t set her sights on her Yu Chuyao, it was fine.
Yu Chuyao recalled Bai Yingxuan’s gaze just now: “I just felt the way she looked at me was like she was afraid I would steal something from her.”
“Do you think I’m that kind of person? Even though her family is very wealthy, it shouldn’t be like this, right?”
Is that so? Tang Xiaorou nodded thoughtfully. From Yu Chuyao’s description, it seemed Bai Yingxuan wasn’t much different from her memory, she was just pretending now.
Perhaps something had happened to Bai Yingxuan during the time before school started in her previous life? Something with her family? That would explain why she hadn’t been so high-profile at school back then.
“Of course not,” Tang Xiaorou patted her shoulder reassuringly. “Don’t worry. If she continues to treat you like this in the future, or even does something bad to you…”
“Even if her family has good conditions and she’s some kind of young lady from a great family, I won’t let her have an easy time at school.”
