Chapter 4: Enrollment Day
***
It was another half day of driving, and they didn’t arrive in S City until the afternoon.
It was also the time period for college enrollment, and many universities in S City were having their students report during these few days. On the road, you could see many cars heading to S City; some even had luggage strapped to their roofs, clearly indicating students coming to enroll.
The closer they got to the university town, the heavier the traffic became. The pace of travel to the city was already slow, and eventually, they were nearly stuck in traffic several kilometers away.
“Are there really this many people?” Yu Chuyao stuck her head out the window, trying to see what was causing the traffic jam ahead. However, as soon as she opened the window and leaned out, Tang Xiaorou pulled her back in.
“Dummy, you’re not supposed to lean your body out while driving.”
Yu Chuyao pouted, thinking to herself: But we’re stuck here barely moving anyway.
Tang Xiaorou chuckled, seeing through Yu Chuyao’s little scheme: “Don’t try to be clever. If the traffic police catch you, you might end up standing by the roadside as punishment.” During enrollment days, the road conditions near schools weren’t great, so many traffic police would come to maintain order, ensure no accidents occurred, and direct traffic to speed up the flow of vehicles.
“I got it!” Yu Chuyao nodded obediently. But she noticed there didn’t seem to be many pedestrians pulling luggage around: “Why can’t I see where the school entrance is?”
“Oh, you mean the main entrance?” Tang Xiaorou took advantage of being stuck in traffic to pull out her phone and check the information: “We’re approaching from the back entrance.”
Back entrance? Yu Chuyao was stunned.
“Wait, that’s not right! Why are we using the back entrance for enrollment?” Wouldn’t they normally go through the main entrance to report and fill out information? They weren’t some sort of sneaky rats or using connections, so why use the back entrance?
Seeing Yu Chuyao’s shocked expression, Tang Xiaorou sighed helplessly, realizing Yu Chuyao hadn’t understood her meaning.
“Silly.” She tapped Yu Chuyao on the head: “It’s the back entrance because this is where the school parking lot entrance is. Otherwise, we’d have to park outside and carry all our stuff quite a distance to enter the school.”
“Wouldn’t that be okay?” Yu Chuyao asked weakly.
Tang Xiaorou face-palmed again. This girl truly had no concept of how large famous universities could be.
“Do you know how big S University’s campus is?” Tang Xiaorou leaned over and asked Yu Chuyao: “Do you know how it compares to our Q City?”
Yu Chuyao shook her head, how would she know?
Tang Xiaorou continued: “S University has several campuses, and together they cover nearly half the area of Q City’s urban district. Just this one campus alone is several times larger than Q City No.1 High School.”
Tang Xiaorou had once taken Yu Chuyao for a tour around Q City No.1 High School, and even that campus was quite large, taking a long time to walk around.
And S University was several times larger than that…
“How long will it take us to walk to class?” Yu Chuyao asked the soul-searching question.
“Hehe, you’ll have to experience that for yourself once we’re inside~” Tang Xiaorou laughed.
After stop-and-go driving for a long time, they finally reached the school parking lot. To facilitate new student enrollment, the lot was temporarily opened to new students and their families, so Tang Xiaorou’s car didn’t need any special permits to park there.
Even so, finding a parking spot still took considerable time.
They didn’t rush to unload their luggage from the car, planning to first find where to complete their enrollment paperwork, then deal with moving their things to the dormitory later.
“Hey, hey, look at those two girls.”
“Wow, did they drive here by themselves? That car doesn’t look cheap.”
“Are they freshmen? Already driving their car to campus as first-years?”
“They’re pretty good-looking too. Definitely rich girls.”
Seeing the two get out of the car, the surrounding new students were very curious about Tang Xiaorou and Yu Chuyao. They were attractive and arrived in a nice car, they clearly weren’t ordinary people.
Some who considered themselves to have decent circumstances were even thinking about going over to ask for their contact information.
But by the time they snapped out of it, Tang Xiaorou had already pulled Yu Chuyao away and disappeared.
Tang Xiaorou was extremely familiar with S University, she knew which routes would get them where they needed to go fastest, and could find her way blindfolded. So finding a quick route with fewer people to the enrollment area wasn’t difficult for her.
As they walked farther and farther, Yu Chuyao finally understood what Tang Xiaorou meant when she said to experience the size of S University for herself.
Damn, it really was huge.
They’d been walking for nearly ten minutes already, and still hadn’t reached the enrollment area?
To this, Tang Xiaorou’s response was:
“Almost there.”
And then they walked for another ten minutes.
Wait, are you sure you won’t get lost on campus? Yu Chuyao felt a bit dizzy.
Now she understood why Tang Xiaorou had suggested leaving their things in the car to retrieve later. After completing enrollment, they could take the campus shuttle back to the parking lot, which was much easier than carrying everything while reporting in.
Finally, they reached the enrollment square. Just this one square alone was about the same size as the one near Yu Chuyao’s home in Q City.
As expected of a nationally renowned school, it was truly extraordinary.
The two were in different colleges, so Tang Xiaorou first took Yu Chuyao to find her Humanities College, Chinese Language and Literature major.
However, just as they were heading in that direction, the surrounding students suddenly all rushed toward one direction, discussing excitedly.
“Hey, hey, what’s going on? Why is everyone looking over there?”
“Oh~ You don’t know? I heard there’s an impressive new student this year, probably arriving for enrollment now.”
“So impressive? Who is it?”
“I heard from locals it’s some fourth young lady from the Bai family.”
“Sounds like something out of a novel.”
“Who knows.”
Bai family? Fourth young lady? What was this about?
Not only was Yu Chuyao confused without knowing the storyline, even the reborn Tang Xiaorou was completely baffled.
How did she not remember such a new student from her previous life’s enrollment day?
“Should we… go take a look too?” Yu Chuyao noticed Tang Xiaorou was also very surprised and weakly tugged at her sleeve to ask.
“Let’s look!” Of course Tang Xiaorou wanted to see. This kind of change couldn’t possibly be because she hadn’t pursued Su Yingying, could it? That made no sense!
The two followed the crowd and saw a fashionably dressed young woman with outstanding presence walking toward them, followed by people carrying her belongings.
Yu Chuyao thought she really did have that young mistress aura like in novels. Meanwhile, Tang Xiaorou, seeing the girl’s face, was mentally searching through her university memories trying to recall if she’d ever met her before.
Unlike campus scenery, there were too many people to remember clearly in such a short time.
