Chapter 10: Choosing a Representative

***

On the first day of military training, Yu Chuyao, who had gotten up early, felt a bit of a headache.

Perhaps she had become too accustomed to sleeping until she naturally woke up during the summer vacation. The military training required everyone to gather at eight in the morning, which was really hard to adapt to.

It seemed that after leaving high school, she had become lazy.

Additionally, after last night’s commotion on the lake island, she heard her roommates mentioning the incident when she returned to the dorm.

“So quickly?” Yu Chuyao felt that her singing with Tang Xiaorou in the middle of the lake had only happened an hour or two ago. How did her roommates already know about it?

She had underestimated the campus network. Especially at a famous school like S University, there was even a specific “nearby” option for S University when scrolling through short videos.

Moreover, people would immediately take out their phones to record such spontaneous events. Since she was the one singing later, basically everything had been recorded and posted online. So university students with nothing better to do only needed to move their fingers slightly to see what had recently happened in the campus circle.

It was hard for Yu Chuyao and Tang Xiaorou not to be noticed.

They were good-looking and pretty, but most importantly, people who came across their videos would have already seen Su Yingying’s videos, creating a stark contrast that was very visual.

It was like being completely destroyed in comparison.

Fortunately, they had just arrived at school, and she hadn’t revealed anything about herself. Even if someone wanted to add her, they would have to first inquire about her class and then ask her classmates.

“I never expected this. School hasn’t even officially started yet, and you’re already famous, Chuyao,” Cheng Yunmeng clicked her tongue and nodded.

Yu Chuyao sighed, “Who wants to be famous? I just want to be a quiet beautiful girl, okay?”

The schedule at university was generally quite late. The girls in her dorm room chatted and discussed until past midnight before gradually falling asleep. This surprised Yu Chuyao. Compared to boys, girls had fewer group entertainment options in the dorm.

This was also her first time staying in a girls’ dormitory… she hadn’t even been inside a girls’ dorm before. However, the scene inside wasn’t as mysterious as she had imagined. Putting aside the filter of new students just moving in, after taking a look at the floors of sophomores and juniors, she found there wasn’t much difference.

After a night’s sleep, she put on her slightly loose military training camouflage uniform with sleepy eyes, then followed her classmates to the gathering point.

There weren’t many girls in the class, and she didn’t see Bai Yingxuan. She probably really wasn’t staying in the school dormitory, as mentioned when school started.

As the group walked further, looking at the dense vegetation and green shade on both sides, Yu Chuyao’s nervous heart gradually calmed down. It seemed that military training most likely wouldn’t take place under the scorching sun.

When they reached the gathering point, sure enough, they saw Bai Yingxuan waiting there early.

For some reason, when everyone saw Bai Yingxuan, they felt that although they were all wearing the same military training camouflage, somehow Bai Yingxuan looked better in it than they did. Especially how the clothes could accentuate her figure, with her ponytail and hat making her look particularly fresh and sunny.

Yu Chuyao looked at herself, like a child wearing adult clothes, and suddenly felt how nice it would be if she could grow a bit taller!

The instructor hadn’t arrived yet, so everyone grouped together based on their dormitory familiarity. However, even separated by many people, Yu Chuyao still felt that through the gaps, she could meet Bai Yingxuan’s gaze.

Why was this person so concerned about her? Wasn’t she supposed to be a young lady from a wealthy family? What was there about her, a girl from a small county town, worth her attention?

Even though she and Tang Xiaorou had caused a stir in the campus circle after being posted online yesterday, it shouldn’t matter that much.

“Hey, don’t you feel that this Miss Bai doesn’t fit in?” Cheng Yunmeng whispered to her roommates. “She doesn’t stay in the dorm, doesn’t join any circles, it feels like she doesn’t even consider us as classmates.”

“Come on, she’s a rich young lady. One of her outfits could cost your entire month’s living expenses. Isn’t it normal for her to look down on us?” Another roommate didn’t think there was a problem. “You don’t really believe those TV dramas where rich young ladies are all approachable protagonists, do you? That’s just a plot setting! In real life, you don’t easily meet people like that.”

That made sense, and the others agreed with this statement. Thinking that since Bai Yingxuan didn’t plan to befriend classmates, there was no need to warm up to a cold bench and embarrass themselves.

When it was time to officially start military training, the instructor came to their class and began to organize the formation.

Quite unfortunately, Yu Chuyao was again positioned in the front row. Though she wasn’t the shortest, she was still very noticeable.

The first two days of military training basically had only one task: standing at attention. At minimum a whole day, at most it could be two or three days. In this situation, whether military training was bearable mainly depended on the instructor.

Fortunately, the instructor for Yu Chuyao’s class was decent. He wasn’t old and introduced himself as still a student, so he wasn’t strict when training them.

During breaks, he even took the initiative to chat and joke with them.

“By the way, there’s something I need to tell you,” the instructor scanned them and finally fixed his gaze on Yu Chuyao. “There’s a talent show after military training. Does your class want to send a representative? I think this student would be suitable.”

He pointed at Yu Chuyao.

Damn, instructor, what do you mean? I didn’t volunteer, why are you pointing at me! Yu Chuyao quickly shook her head, indicating refusal.

However, the instructor said, “Don’t decline, student. Didn’t you sing pretty well in yesterday’s video? I think you’re good.” With his comment, classmates who hadn’t recognized Yu Chuyao in her military uniform now looked more closely and matched her with the person in the video.

“Oh~ so it’s her!”

“Wow, she’s in our class? I didn’t even notice.”

“I wouldn’t have known if you hadn’t mentioned it. She has such a low presence, despite being so pretty.”

The classmates discussed among themselves, but none objected to the instructor’s words. They all seemed to agree with choosing Yu Chuyao.

Don’t do this! I never wanted to participate in anything like this! Yu Chuyao’s brain was racing, trying to formulate a way to refuse the instructor: Come on, mouth, speak up! It’ll be too late once it’s settled!

While Yu Chuyao was anxiously thinking, a female student from behind raised her hand and volunteered, “Teacher, how about I do it?”

Initially, Yu Chuyao was relieved and wanted to thank whoever was kind enough to rescue her. However, when she turned around, she saw that the person raising her hand was none other than Bai Yingxuan, who stood out like a crane among chickens.

Well, judging by the way she was looking at her, there was probably no need for gratitude. That’s what Yu Chuyao thought.
