Chapter 8: Getting Lost on the Way Home?
***
Even though she had her bubble tea, for some reason Tang Xiaorou was still following behind Yu Chuyao on the way home.
To the point where Yu Chuyao, slowly walking along the road holding her bubble tea, felt very uncomfortable, having a sense of being stalked.
But who told her to accept favors from others, drinking the bubble tea Tang Xiaorou gave her, it wouldn’t be right to drive her away, so she could only let her keep following.
Along the way, Tang Xiaorou wasn’t idle either, either asking about this and that, or showing concern.
“Is your home far from here, Classmate Yu?”
I don’t know either…
“The weather’s been quite cold lately, you should wear warmer clothes.”
I just got here, I’m not sure about that either.
“How did you used to see me before, Classmate Yu?”
Um, I haven’t read the book yet, but from the synopsis you seem to be a hopeless… um… fangirl.
Yu Chuyao didn’t answer each question, just silently critiquing Tang Xiaorou’s inquiries in her heart. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to respond, but she was afraid that speaking would expose more issues, she could only blame herself for knowing too little.
This image, however, fit with Tang Xiaorou’s impression that Yu Chuyao was quiet and not good with words. The former nobody used to just sit in the corner like this, hardly ever talking to anyone.
Even at college reunion gatherings, after her image had completely transformed and she revealed her cute and beautiful side, she would still just shyly accept everyone’s teasing, not really knowing how to joke back or refute.
But staying silent wasn’t a solution either, so Yu Chuyao decided to address Tang Xiaorou’s last question.
“It’s just… I felt you were very attentive to Su Yingying.”
Though these words didn’t explicitly point out the fact of her frantically pursuing Su Yingying, it was just a thin veil away from revealing it.
This made Tang Xiaorou somewhat embarrassed, wishing she could slap her past self a few times. But thinking about it, now that she had returned to the past, wouldn’t she still be slapping herself…
Really, it was all youthful impulsiveness and ignorance, now digging holes for herself.
She needed to find a way to raise Yu Chuyao’s favorability even more.
As they got further from school, there were hardly any other students around, and with the weather not yet warming up, there were few pedestrians on the road, only the shops open at night helped ease the quiet, isolated atmosphere.
“Classmate Tang, are you sure your home is along the same route as mine?”
From among the numerous pieces of information in her phone’s notes, she had found her home address, it seemed the original her was indeed a bit of a silly girl.
It was quite far from school, so she was suspicious, was Tang Xiaorou following her all this way really because they were heading the same direction?
How could there be such a coincidence! She didn’t believe it anyway.
“Um… well… of course.” Tang Xiaorou scratched her head, her expression revealing nothing, but her tone clearly showed a pause for thought.
Obviously, she was lying.
But Yu Chuyao couldn’t drive her away either. After all, she wasn’t familiar with her and didn’t know where her house was.
She couldn’t just say I don’t think your house is this way, so you shouldn’t follow me anymore.
That kind of thing?
Hey, just letting her keep following would give her a sense of letting a wolf into the house if they really went home together.
For some reason, she had a very strong feeling about this.
Actually, Tang Xiaorou’s home wasn’t far from school, just two or three blocks away. By now they had reached the point where they should part ways.
But she still wanted to follow Yu Chuyao.
This was to protect her future wife from getting hurt on her way home late at night! Absolutely not to follow her home and remember the route to visit frequently in the future!
Ahem, she was a proper person, very principled.
And so after walking for about another 10 minutes, the two stopped at another intersection, and even after the traffic light changed twice, they still hadn’t continued on.
Why? Because our Miss Nobody was lost.
Oh no… she wasn’t very good at reading maps before, and being in an unfamiliar city, having to walk home on a long route for the first time was really torturous.
Although she could look at the map, with Tang Xiaorou beside her, to avoid exposing that she had transmitted into the book, she could only sneak a few glances while Tang Xiaorou was replying to messages.
This efficiency was too low, and she still couldn’t understand which way to go next.
So a strange scene emerged, the person trying to get home didn’t know which way to go, while beside her stood someone who wanted to go with her, both just staring blankly.
After a while, Tang Xiaorou also felt confused and asked the soul-searching question.
“Classmate Yu, you wouldn’t happen to…” She also didn’t understand why Yu Chuyao was standing here doing nothing, when there weren’t many cars late at night and the green light had come on twice already: “be lost, would you?”
This hit the nail on the head, startling Yu Chuyao, who quickly tried to cover up: “Who says I don’t know the way! I’m just tired and want to rest for a bit!”
Chuyao wasn’t originally the introverted personality after all, she had a bit of temper herself.
But to Tang Xiaorou, this defiant appearance was quite rare. She felt happy for a moment, as this meant the other person was willing to show a slightly different private side in front of her.
So she didn’t point it out, just letting her carry on.
Yu Chuyao also stopped insisting and continued in the direction she thought should be correct.
Walking further and further, when she secretly checked her location, she could no longer tell exactly where she was. Yu Chuyao finally let go of that persistence and very reluctantly admitted a fact.
She was lost.
Damn it, this looked like just a small county town, how could she still get lost!
Her stomach growling was the final “shot” that broke through her stubborn defense.
At mealtime, she had looked at her meal card and saw there wasn’t much money, so she had just casually gotten some food to get by. Her current appetite was very small, and she thought she could hold on, but she had overestimated herself.
Could it be that the reason for such a petite body… was because she never ate enough?
Helplessly sighing with her head down, she turned her gaze toward Tang Xiaorou beside her.
Being stared at by Yu Chuyao with pitiful, hopeful eyes, Tang Xiaorou immediately felt a surge of tender affection and quickly asked: “What’s wrong?”
Seeing the young girl stroking her small belly, and thinking about how far they’d walked, the two wandering aimlessly east and west without direction, she immediately analyzed one possibility.
“You’re not lost, are you?”
Ah this, isn’t this just the way home? How could someone not know how to get there? Could it be that because she brought me along, she got too nervous and confused?
She could only find the reason in herself, after all, rather than believing Yu Chuyao didn’t know the way, it was more believable that she had affected the latter.
Seeing the young girl’s blushing face, this explanation seemed even more credible.
Fine, it really became her problem. Tang Xiaorou patted her forehead, feeling mentally exhausted.
