Chapter 59: Uh… Three Make a Group?
***
Yu Chuyao discovered that ever since Tang Xiaorou stayed overnight at her house, she seemed particularly interested in something.
She wasn’t sure exactly what it was, but she just had this feeling.
Was this what they called a woman’s sixth sense? Did she develop such abilities after becoming a girl?
Especially during break times or self-study periods, Tang Xiaorou would mysteriously disappear without a trace, gone for long periods.
Given Tang Xiaorou’s grades, it didn’t really matter whether she attended classes or not at this point, and self-study wasn’t particularly useful for her either, since her test scores hadn’t dropped in any of the recent exams.
But this still made Yu Chuyao feel strange. Could it be that Tang Xiaorou was hiding some new moves from her? Or perhaps… she was already looking for someone new elsewhere?
Ahem, it’s not that Yu Chuyao couldn’t bear to part with Tang Xiaorou, who had brought her many benefits, but in others’ eyes, Tang Xiaorou was already deeply connected to her. If Tang Xiaorou were to “transfer her affections” now, it would make things rather awkward for her.
If that was really the case, Yu Chuyao felt she didn’t need to observe what secret Tang Xiaorou was keeping anymore, might as well just pass on it.
However, things weren’t that simple.
“What have you been busy with lately?” Yu Chuyao asked directly one time.
“Hm? Nothing much? Haven’t I been with you all this time?” Tang Xiaorou’s answer was flawless, without a hint of nervousness.
Still saying it’s nothing!
“Are you this concerned about me? Could it be…” Tang Xiaorou chuckled, unconsciously leaning closer to Yu Chuyao: “that you like me?”
“N-no way!”
I’m concerned about you because I need to know more about the plot in the book! What does that have to do with liking you!
Yu Chuyao humphed, gently pushing Tang Xiaorou away: “Do whatever you want, but don’t blame me for holding you back if you don’t do well in the next mock exam because you’re always running off somewhere.”
“How could that happen? There aren’t many mock exams left anyway, and haven’t I always helped you review? When have I ever dropped out of the top 3?” Tang Xiaorou just shrugged, showing no concern about it. With her learning talent, dealing with high school entrance examinations was more than enough, not to mention she had knowledge from her previous life.
Her focus now was still on guiding Yu Chuyao, otherwise after the college entrance exam, with them separated in different places, even in the same city, different schools would make things inconvenient.
Recently, she had indeed been going out frequently, sometimes even specifically asking for leave during evening self-study to make a trip outside. But there was a reason for all this, each time she went out she had a clear goal, to investigate her hunches.
For Yu Chuyao, these memories might have been long forgotten, but traces of what existed wouldn’t be erased. With some time, clues could always be found.
Q City wasn’t big, she believed results would come soon.
“Don’t worry, next time I go out I’ll bring you back something to eat, would you like barbecue or grilled cold noodles?”
As time drew closer to the college entrance exam, the weather began to warm up, sometimes even requiring students to take off their school uniform jackets, and many had already switched to summer uniforms.
Yu Chuyao was no exception. Compared to the loose long-sleeved jacket of the autumn uniform, the summer uniform was more fitted. The entire outfit highlighted Yu Chuyao’s figure, and if one ignored the underdeveloped chest area, it was precisely the body type many girls dreamed of.
Even by Tang Xiaorou’s assessment, it would receive almost perfect scores.
She hadn’t known in her previous life, but now she realized how blind she had been before, ignoring such a gem and instead hanging onto Su Yingying’s every word.
However, this view was only available when Yu Chuyao and Tang Xiaorou were in class, sitting at the back of the classroom. When it came to break time or meal times, she would still put on her jacket.
This wasn’t just Tang Xiaorou’s idea, she didn’t want anyone competing with her, and even though most people’s minds were on studying with the college entrance exam approaching, who could guarantee no one would come looking after the exam when everyone relaxed?
Yu Chuyao hadn’t thought that far ahead, it was just that her body might be rather delicate, and in this weather that was already warm enough, she felt just right wearing a jacket.
At this moment, the classroom was in self-study, with basically everyone at their seats working on their papers or making up for some knowledge gaps. This quiet atmosphere was interrupted by the class teacher who walked in quickly from outside.
Students in high school seemed to have developed a certain ability, that is, they could immediately notice whenever someone walked in from outside, but whether they dared to look up depended on the situation and the person.
The class teacher’s arrival seemed purposeful, first glancing around the classroom, then calling out several names.
“Tang Xiaorou, Yu Chuyao, Su Yingying, come out with me for a moment.”
Holy crap!?
Instantly, all the classmates’ attention was drawn to these three names, their hands stopping whatever they were doing. Can’t be helped, after all, these three had been the biggest gossip in class during this period, and now with the class teacher calling them out, it was hard not to think of something.
However, Tang Xiaorou was unexpectedly calm, rather seeming to know something, raising an eyebrow: “It’s here!”
“What’s here?” Yu Chuyao frowned, feeling confused about this: “Do you know something?” Could it be that Tang Xiaorou’s change was because…
“Huh? Of course I know.” Tang Xiaorou felt her previous reaction was too matter-of-fact, quickly adding: “The school has an activity to organize around this time every year, this year is no exception.”
Oh, is that so? Yu Chuyao remained skeptical.
However, after following them outside the classroom and hearing the class teacher’s explanation, it seemed like it really was the case…
“It’s like this,” the class teacher began explaining why she called them out: “The school is about to hold its final motivational assembly before the college entrance exam.”
A motivational assembly, it was actually a kind of encouragement, similar to that hundred-day oath ceremony before. It was mainly to bring competitive enthusiasm for studying to the students, to make them study harder.
As for whether it was useful, Yu Chuyao wasn’t sure, maybe it worked for some people, but those who didn’t want to study wouldn’t change no matter how much motivation or encouragement they received.
However, the school still had to do what it should, it was all about keeping up appearances, and by the way, they could invite parents to come, maintaining the school’s face.
So, what did this have to do with the three of them?
“There’s a speech and oath-taking segment at the assembly.” The class teacher slowly spoke, her words hitting Yu Chuyao’s heart hard: “Our class is very honored to have you three selected, as for why you were chosen, you’ll know when you go to gather.”
Pfff!
Yu Chuyao felt an urge to spit blood, making her, a socially anxious person, read something in front of thousands of people, wasn’t that asking for her life!
