Chapter 55: Meeting the Parents (Tang Xiaorou’s Version!)
***
Yu Chuyao thought Tang Xiaorou could cook, just the normal kind when parents aren’t home, cooking to fill your stomach type.
But after tasting a few bites, that flavor absolutely struck her taste buds, completely irresistible.
“So delicious!” She hadn’t eaten for half a day, and since she naturally had a small appetite and ate little, after such a long time plus the afternoon’s activities, it was normal to be quite hungry now.
But the taste was undeniably amazing, and Yu Chuyao wasn’t just being polite as she ate.
As long as Yu Chuyao was satisfied, Tang Xiaorou could relax. Although she had already tasted the dishes before serving them, whether they suited Yu Chuyao’s taste still had to be confirmed by her personally.
Only then did she pick up her chopsticks, ready to eat together with Yu Chuyao.
Click.
At that moment, the door opened, and Mr. Yu and Mrs. Yu returned together, quite a rare scene.
The two at the dining table immediately stood up. Yu Chuyao just remembered she hadn’t told her parents about bringing Tang Xiaorou home with her, and wasn’t sure if they would allow it.
Tang Xiaorou was a bit nervous. In her previous life, she had never met Su Yingying’s parents, so she felt unfamiliar with this parent-meeting situation.
When Mr. Yu saw Tang Xiaorou, he pretty much knew who she was and what was going on. He exchanged glances with Tang Xiaorou, reading a hint of probing in her eyes.
Mrs. Yu didn’t think too much about it, seeing Tang Xiaorou she was immediately enthusiastic, quickly taking off her coat as she walked over: “Oh my, we have a guest, Yaoyao why didn’t you tell me?”
Yaoyao? Tang Xiaorou tilted her head, looking at Yu Chuyao beside her with a smile. Who knew that at home, her parents called Yu Chuyao such a cute nickname?
Noted, she made a mental note of that.
When no one else was around, Yu Chuyao didn’t feel anything special about being called that by her mother. But now with Tang Xiaorou standing beside her, being called that made her feel a bit childish.
“Mom~” Yu Chuyao blushed, quickly pulling her over to Tang Xiaorou’s side: “This is Tang Xiaorou, the one you’ve been asking me about recently.”
Oh~ So she wasn’t unfamiliar to Mrs. Yu, just that they hadn’t met in person, so the impression shouldn’t be bad.
But as for Mr. Yu…
Neither cold nor warm, no obvious emotional changes.
It seemed normal, fathers typically like daughters more, though sons are more important for carrying on the family line, daughters’ sweetness, cuteness, and beauty aren’t something sons can compare to.
So when someone has their eye on their flower-like daughter, fathers are all on high alert, preparing for battle.
Since he also knew it was her who helped Yu Chuyao cut her bangs, that means he understands she has her eye on his daughter.
At this point, if it were other boys coming over, they probably would have been kicked out already, fortunately, she’s a girl.
“Who made all this?” Mrs. Yu knew Yu Chuyao couldn’t cook, and although there was only one possibility among those present, she still asked.
“Classmate Tang Xiaorou made it!” Yu Chuyao quickly pulled her to sit down, letting her taste Tang Xiaorou’s cooking: “It’s very delicious! Just like mom’s cooking!”
Tang Xiaorou showed great sincerity, also going to the kitchen to get more bowls and chopsticks. When cooking, she had certainly considered this situation might occur, which is why she made three dishes and one soup, enough for four people to eat together, and even if they couldn’t finish it all, it could be saved and reheated when Yu’s parents returned.
Mr. Yu still sat down calmly, he and Mrs. Yu sat on one side, just opposite Tang Xiaorou and Yu Chuyao on the other side.
Unlike Mrs. Yu and Yu Chuyao who chatted while eating, Tang Xiaorou simply stayed by their side, basically not speaking like Mr. Yu.
This surprised Yu Chuyao, originally at school, Tang Xiaorou would practically want to mute the teacher during class just to chat with Yu Chuyao. And while cooking earlier, she still chatted while cooking, either talking about school things or telling her what dishes she was going to make.
How come now she suddenly became like her voice was muted, not saying a word unless Mrs. Yu asked her questions.
“Xiaorou is so good to our Yaoyao,” Mrs. Yu praised Tang Xiaorou: “Good at studies, beautiful, and from such a good family background, whoever ends up with her in the future will be lucky.”
Wuwuwu Auntie please don’t say anymore, if you continue I feel like Uncle beside you is about to start having a good “talk” with me.
Could Auntie really not see that she liked Yu Chuyao? Tang Xiaorou wondered internally. Or was she deliberately trying to create tension with Uncle, increasing the difficulty.
It was obvious that although Yu Chuyao’s family conditions were ordinary, they truly cherished Yu Chuyao, wanting to hold her in their palms.
After dinner, Yu Chuyao and her mother voluntarily took on the task of washing dishes and pots, conveniently leaving Tang Xiaorou alone to face Mr. Yu, making her more suspicious that Mrs. Yu knew.
Mr. Yu sat on the sofa, instinctively reaching for his cigarettes, but thinking that he was at home with a young lady present, he had to put them away.
“You should know,” Mr. Yu took out some tea leaves and brewed a pot with hot water: “Even though you’re a girl, casually falling in love with another girl isn’t a small matter.”
The relationship between them was far more complicated than normal male-female relationships.
“Moreover, Yaoyao doesn’t like you right now.”
Mr. Yu could tell whether his daughter liked someone or not. Yu Chuyao’s current feelings for Tang Xiaorou were more like close friends, intimate but not love.
That’s why he needed to pull Tang Xiaorou aside.
“I know that too,” Tang Xiaorou had been trying hard since coming back from her rebirth, hoping to move Yu Chuyao.
But this little one, for some reason, really seemed like she was also starting to understand, even though logically as a nobody, being “influenced” by so many pursuing actions, she would definitely have developed feelings.
But the effect wasn’t very good. Yu Chuyao always maintained the principle of being good to those who were good to her, but this kind of goodness seemed more like not wanting to owe Tang Xiaorou anything.
Quite sensible. Mr. Yu had a pretty good impression of Tang Xiaorou, just didn’t know if it was because she deliberately acted this way in front of him and Mrs. Yu, or if this was her true nature.
“As parents…” Mr. Yu paused at this point, pondered for a moment, then continued: “We also don’t want to casually entrust our daughter’s future to someone else.”
“Moreover, your relationship, in our society’s view, is too rare.”
“But those are all external voices.” Tang Xiaorou didn’t care about these things, so many setbacks in her previous life hadn’t defeated her, what were these in comparison, did she still care about others’ views?
Obviously not.
“As long as Chuyao likes me, that’s enough, right?”
