Chapter 51: Do You Like Her?

***

Seeing Yu Chuyao return from outside so quickly, and being personally escorted back by the homeroom teacher, the whole class couldn’t help but be amazed.

Everyone knew that when the homeroom teacher personally comes to call someone, it must be a very serious offense. However, when they returned, the homeroom teacher didn’t appear angry at all. Instead, she smiled while sending Yu Chuyao in at the door, reminding her to study hard.

This was absolutely the first time this had happened since this teacher became their homeroom teacher.

Yu Chuyao just walked in as if nothing had happened and sat back in her seat.

Tang Xiaorou was naturally happy. She had actually wanted to go along too, but since class was still in session, she thought she’d have to wait until the bathroom break time to sneak over.

But unexpectedly, from the time Yu Chuyao left until she returned, it took less than 15 minutes in total.

Some were happy while others worried.

The worried one was naturally Jiang Xinxin, the culprit who caused Yu Chuyao to be called out. She couldn’t understand why Yu Chuyao wasn’t in trouble. Logically speaking, for something like skipping class and climbing over the school wall, the punishment would range from suspension and demerit points at minimum to expulsion at worst.

Even though it’s the third year of high school, there should at least be some form of punishment, right?

“What’s wrong with you?” Su Yingying looked at Jiang Xinxin beside her, who was glaring at Yu Chuyao with gritted teeth, feeling somewhat nervous: “Why do you look so upset?”

Of course Jiang Xinxin looked upset. She had called Yu Chuyao out to talk, but instead ended up being scolded by Yu Chuyao. How could she tolerate such behavior, especially being treated this way by a nobody she had always looked down upon.

“How was it?” Tang Xiaorou couldn’t wait for Yu Chuyao to sit down before eagerly pulling her to ask: “Why did they call you out?”

Yu Chuyao scratched her cheek and thought for a moment before deciding to explain what Jiang Xinxin had done to her during dinner.

She explained why she was so nervous during evening self-study, why she ran out during break time, and why she only returned just before class started.

When Tang Xiaorou heard that Jiang Xinxin had broken the necklace, her expression clearly fell. Others might not know, but how could Su Yingying and Jiang Xinxin not remember what Tang Xiaorou had said when she gave this necklace?

However, they didn’t care, otherwise the necklace wouldn’t have been left in the storage bag for nearly 2 years without being taken out.

“Looks like she deliberately lured you out there to get caught.” Tang Xiaorou was certain this was Jiang Xinxin’s intentional doing. Although with Jiang Xinxin’s intelligence level, she might not have come up with such a strategy, but by accident, she still managed to cause trouble for Yu Chuyao.

“We can’t let her be so arrogant.”

“Right!” As the saying goes, even a clay figure has its breaking point. Usually, when she just verbally provoked Yu Chuyao, Yu Chuyao could still talk back, but this time she nearly got Yu Chuyao disciplined by the school. Even with her good nature, she couldn’t let herself be pushed around like this.

But Yu Chuyao had no good solutions either. After thinking for a long time, she could only come up with some childish pranks…

“It’s okay, we don’t need to do anything.” Tang Xiaorou placed her hand on hers: “The school will ‘arrange’ something for her.”

Revenge isn’t absent, it’s just not time yet.

Arrange?

Yu Chuyao was skeptical but still nodded. A mere Jiang Xinxin wasn’t worth being treated as a major enemy by the two of them. This wasn’t some fantasy or magical novel; the most important thing was to live life well.

When she returned home after school that night, sure enough, her father and mother were waiting for her at home.

When they saw Yu Chuyao return, her father, who had been smoking by the window, quickly extinguished his cigarette and threw it out, closing the window to prevent the smoke from coming in.

Her mother thoughtfully helped her take off her coat and changed her into warm house clothes.

“Dad.” Yu Chuyao called out weakly. In all the time since transmigrating into the book, apart from brief meetings at school, this was her first time sitting down for a proper conversation with her father.

Her father smiled and removed her headband, revealing that beautiful, pretty face.

“Was it that Tang Xiaorou who fixed your hair?” He immediately asked about Tang Xiaorou, presumably having discussed her recent situation with her mother after coming home.

Yu Chuyao nodded, as there was really nothing to hide about this.

Her father gave her a meaningful look. Yu Chuyao was beautiful, and how could parents not know this? Her previous hairstyle with bangs was not only because Yu Chuyao herself was naturally introverted and shy, using her hair to lower her presence and attention, but also because he and her mother supported this, thus hiding their daughter’s appearance until now.

“How did she know what you looked like under your bangs?”

Yu Chuyao was stunned, this question really caught her off guard. How did Tang Xiaorou know what she looked like under her bangs? Logically, the original book’s plot wouldn’t have descriptions of a supporting character like her, so Tang Xiaorou basically had no chance of interaction with her.

Then how did she express her pursuit and immediately take her to cut her bangs to reveal her face?

Could it be that she also had something that Yu Chuyao didn’t know about!

“I’m not sure either.” Yu Chuyao could only answer truthfully.

“I see.” Her father sighed melancholically. He was happy that his daughter was liked by someone, but the fact that it was a girl… was something worth thinking about.

“Do you like her?” her father asked again.

Does she like Tang Xiaorou?

Yu Chuyao asked herself this question in her heart as well.

She wasn’t sure.

She could feel Tang Xiaorou’s sincerity in her kindness towards her. However, in this book world, especially when she wasn’t clear about the plot, would Tang Xiaorou still be like this later on?

She wasn’t certain, so she didn’t dare to truly entrust her feelings.

Moreover, her family environment before transmigrating had made her somewhat skeptical about love.

If people could change their hearts after 10 or 20 years of living together day and night, who could be sure about the future with Tang Xiaorou after just a month of interaction?

Seeing that Yu Chuyao was lost in thought for a long time without answering his question, her father thought he had pressured her and quickly added: “It’s okay, dad’s not blaming you.”

“Whether you like boys or girls, we don’t mind.”

Come to think of it, her parents’ way of thinking was quite progressive. Although they weren’t highly educated, their mental state was much stronger than the parents she had encountered in her life before transmigrating.

“Mm…”

The Yu family’s conditions didn’t appear to be good, but the sense of happiness this atmosphere brought her was even greater than the materially rich conditions she had before transmigrating.

Perhaps this was the atmosphere that a normal loving couple’s family brought to their children.

“It’s good to have a friend who cares about you.” Her father didn’t dwell on this topic. He didn’t know Tang Xiaorou, but from what her mother had told him, he felt this little girl seemed quite nice.

“As long as she doesn’t betray your feelings.”

Yu Chuyao felt that probably wouldn’t happen.
