Chapter 50: Trust
***
Seeing Mr. Yu about to refute, the academic affairs teacher immediately became a bit displeased.
“Parent, are you questioning our school’s work?”
Mr. Yu stood at the doorway, instinctively reaching for cigarettes from his pocket, but just as he had taken out the cigarette pack, he remembered he was in school, surrounded by teachers and students.
He had no choice but to put the cigarettes back.
“I’m not questioning you.” Mr. Yu glanced at him calmly, thinking whether it would be okay to enter like this? After hesitating, he still entered the room and walked to Yu Chuyao’s side.
He smiled and ruffled Yu Chuyao’s head, which made Yu Chuyao somewhat stunned.
This was different from the Mr. Yu she had imagined.
Actually, before transmigrating into the book, Yu Chuyao’s family wasn’t particularly good. On the surface, she had both parents, and their conditions were decent, considered middle-class. But in reality, her parents’ relationship had become fragile over more than 10 years.
Furthermore, after she started university, she had discovered several instances of infidelity messages on her father’s phone, which made her feel even more sorrowful about this barely maintained family.
For the family, her father was a qualified breadwinner. But for her and her mother, he wasn’t a qualified father and husband.
Therefore, before transmigrating into the book, Yu Chuyao’s experience of fatherly love was very weak.
Now suddenly feeling Mr. Yu’s pat, her heart unexpectedly rose with a hint of dependence. This was both the body’s instinct and a subconscious reaction from within.
“Don’t worry.” Mr. Yu smiled at Yu Chuyao, speaking as if coaxing a child: “Dad certainly knows you wouldn’t do such things.”
A simple sentence showed his stance and allowed Yu Chuyao’s anxious heart to settle down.
“As parents, we know better what kind of person our child is and what kind of things they would do.” Mr. Yu calmly replied, undoubtedly arguing with the academic affairs teacher: “You said on the phone that my Chuyao skipped class and left school, I think this is quite impossible.”
“How is it impossible, children are at school for so long, even if they go bad, you parents might not necessarily know.”
The academic affairs teacher’s reaction was intense, like a yellow dog whose tail had been stepped on.
With such confrontation, the students and homeroom teacher who were originally here consciously made space, leaving it for Mr. Yu to handle.
“Then why don’t you ask my Chuyao what she was actually doing over there.” No matter what Mr. Yu said, his body wouldn’t leave Yu Chuyao’s side even a step, standing there like a mountain of support: “Yaoyao, tell dad what you went over there to do.”
“My necklace was thrown there, I went to pick it up during break.” Yu Chuyao pulled out the necklace from her neck.
Essentially, the school opposed students wearing jewelry, but when some people wore necklaces with religious significance like Buddha or Guanyin images, they would turn a blind eye. The necklace on Yu Chuyao’s neck was old, and compared to showing off precious gold and silver, it couldn’t be more unrelated.
“That’s just her own statement.” The academic affairs teacher clearly didn’t believe it.
Mr. Yu still wanted to smoke, reaching for his pocket several times, but looking at Yu Chuyao beside him, he still held back.
“Yaoyao, is there anything else you want to say?”
“Yes! Of course there is!” Yu Chuyao had clearly thought about how to explain on her way here: “My conflict with my classmate happened on the school perimeter road when buying lunch in the afternoon, there must be surveillance cameras!”
To ensure school safety, there would definitely be surveillance cameras monitoring the perimeter road, the outermost area. Yu Chuyao was certain that her confrontation with Jiang Xinxin would have been captured from several angles.
This was exactly what Mr. Yu wanted to hear, he nodded, his gaze moving back to the academic affairs teacher.
Now the pressure was back on the teacher’s side. Yu Chuyao had clearly given the time and location, it was just a matter of checking the surveillance footage, which the academic affairs office could do.
It didn’t need much time, since it happened today, it would only take a few minutes to see the whole picture clearly.
Although the surveillance had no sound, it could clearly show Jiang Xinxin grabbing Yu Chuyao’s body once, then quickly throwing something from her hand.
The truth was revealed.
“So teacher, how can you be so sure that what you know is the whole picture?” Mr. Yu repeated what he had said when he first arrived here.
Yu Chuyao gained a new understanding of her father. Originally hearing from Mrs. Yu that Mr. Yu worked as a long-distance bus driver, she thought he was just an honest, ordinary middle-aged man, but now he seemed not so ordinary.
“Although I didn’t finish my studies, I still understand these social principles.” Mr. Yu patted Yu Chuyao’s back: “This matter is settled here, quickly go back to the classroom for evening self-study.”
At this point, the academic affairs teacher had nothing more to say. Since it was proven that Yu Chuyao didn’t go there to skip class, there was no reason to keep her here for punishment.
The homeroom teacher watching the drama here also breathed a sigh of relief. She didn’t want her student to be detained here for such things, especially since Yu Chuyao’s studies were decent, and recently under Tang Xiaorou’s tutoring, she was progressing even further, even feeling there was a chance to compete for a key university in the college entrance exam.
Both officially and personally, she didn’t want Yu Chuyao to be implicated.
“Yu Chuyao’s father, you can go back first, I’ll take her back to class.”
Mr. Yu nodded, but before leaving, he wanted to say a bit more to Yu Chuyao.
Because when he just arrived here, he noticed that Yu Chuyao, whom he hadn’t seen for so long, had some changes from his impression.
“What’s with your bangs?” Mr. Yu asked quietly.
When he ruffled Yu Chuyao’s head earlier, he felt something was worn on her head.
And not just the appearance of her bangs, but Yu Chuyao’s personality also seemed a bit different.
Usually, when encountering such things, seeing him or Mrs. Yu come, she would immediately hide behind them!
Ah, children really grow up, becoming less dependent on parents. Mr. Yu inevitably felt melancholic, while also sensing that there must be someone by Yu Chuyao’s side helping her make these changes.
“Um… this…” Yu Chuyao didn’t know how to tell Mr. Yu, her story with Tang Xiaorou could be summarized in a few sentences, but the details within would take a long time to explain clearly.
“Never mind, I’ll ask your mother when I get back.” Mr. Yu waved his hand, holding Yu Chuyao’s hand and bringing her to the homeroom teacher: “Come home early after evening classes.”
Then he left, watching Mr. Yu’s figure disappear down the stairs, Yu Chuyao felt for a moment that transmigrating into the book might not be such a terrible thing.
Compared to herself who had transmigrated.
