Chapter 45: A Pleasing Sight
***
“I told you so,” Tang Xiaorou smiled and pointed at the two people hurriedly leaving: “All show, no substance.”
Yu Chuyao stood there dazed, feeling increasingly unable to understand the girl beside her.
What else about her did she not know?
When Xie Jin missed his first shot, the outcome was already decided. With his personality, he naturally wouldn’t want to appear weak before Tang Xiaorou. And the more anxious he became, the worse he performed at this game that required calmness and skill.
Perhaps Xie Jin usually doesn’t play this poorly when playing pool with others, and when he’s in good form, he can sink several balls in one shot. But today he encountered Tang Xiaorou, who had already been playing with his psychology.
“It’s okay, Xie Jin, don’t rush, we can always play another round later,” Su Yingying comforted him from the side.
But her comfort seemed to have the opposite effect. Thinking about proving himself in front of Su Yingying, Xie Jin’s performance became even worse.
Tang Xiaorou didn’t even need to move, just watching him continue to play, seeing how many shots it would take him to finish.
But actually, before reaching the end, Xie Jin couldn’t bear his own performance and overturned the game, essentially admitting his defeat, then started a new game without regarding Tang Xiaorou’s opinion.
He thought that if he started the game, he definitely wouldn’t be affected by Tang Xiaorou’s previous influence.
But it was actually useless. As soon as there was a slight mistake, his entire state would collapse. After several attempts without achieving Tang Xiaorou’s one-shot finish, Xie Jin finally “broke down.”
He slammed the cue stick onto the table and left the pool hall without looking back, frightening Su Yingying who could only follow behind him, continuously trying to calm his anger.
“They just… left?” Yu Chuyao found it quite incredible. Tang Xiaorou appeared to have done nothing; after finishing that last shot, she just stood by the pool table letting Xie Jin perform on his own, and he ended up breaking down by himself.
All show but no substance, indeed.
“Want to play?” Tang Xiaorou checked the time, still an hour and a half before returning to school for class, still early.
Yu Chuyao had been eager to try while watching from the side. Though not highly skilled, she was still interested in playing occasionally, and immediately picked up the cue stick from the table. Tang Xiaorou thoughtfully arranged the scattered balls on the table for her.
However, when Yu Chuyao stood beside the pool table, she realized a problem.
It seemed her current height made it a bit difficult to play?
She hadn’t played much before, but she knew how to shoot and what posture to use, all from habit. But now with her height being quite different from before crossing over into the book, she suddenly couldn’t find a suitable posture.
Tang Xiaorou thought Yu Chuyao had never played pool before, so she could only imitate others, making her posture somewhat awkward.
“Your posture isn’t right,” seeing her struggle to make the first shot after trying for so long, Tang Xiaorou simply stood directly behind her, leaning over her back, both hands gripping Yu Chuyao’s wrists, starting to correct her form.
Yu Chuyao, who had been concentrating on adjusting her stance, suddenly jumped when someone grabbed her like this. But when she tried to stand up, she bumped into two soft things, causing her previously startled body to freeze completely.
She didn’t dare move at all.
Being single for so many years, she had never been treated like this, feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the attention.
Tang Xiaorou didn’t mind this at all, since the little one below wasn’t resisting, she could just continue adjusting the position.
Soon she adjusted to a comfortable and correct posture, and satisfied with the result, she finally stood up and patted Yu Chuyao’s slender, straight back, saying with a smile: “Come on, try taking a shot.”
Finally free from Tang Xiaorou’s pressure on her body, Yu Chuyao quickly channeled her nervousness into strength, striking the ball hard.
“Not bad, not bad,” Tang Xiaorou didn’t hold back her encouragement for Yu Chuyao, who appeared to be a “beginner.”
Really? Yu Chuyao looked at her result with a bit of excitement in her heart.
Since they were just playing casually, Yu Chuyao didn’t need to worry about any particular rules, if she missed a shot, she would just try again, counting it as successful whenever she made it.
This led her to become increasingly enthusiastic, taking shot after shot without stopping.
As she played more, Yu Chuyao’s technique became more proficient. Whether it was her posture or the speed of pocketing balls, everything became both standard and efficient. Seeing no other students around, she even removed her annoying hairband that was holding back her bangs, tossing it aside.
Meanwhile, Tang Xiaorou, who had brought her here, just stood to the side doing nothing, simply watching Yu Chuyao play.
It must be said that watching someone you like play pool is enjoyable, especially when Yu Chuyao removed her hairband revealing her true face, and as time passed, she took off her loose school uniform jacket, exposing her slender arms and figure.
How to put it, it was just very pleasing to watch.
Yu Chuyao bent over the pool table, positioning herself and focusing on her target, then striking with the cue stick as if she wasn’t aiming at the white ball and colored balls, and what went in wasn’t the pocket, but rather her heart.
“What’s wrong?” Yu Chuyao noticed Tang Xiaorou standing to the side spacing out with the cue stick. She had noticed this happening often since she crossed over and started interacting with Tang Xiaorou, anyone who didn’t know better might think she had developed dementia at such a young age.
“Nothing, nothing,” Tang Xiaorou finally snapped out of it with a laugh.
Perhaps she could bring Yu Chuyao here to play more often in the future?
She was even thinking about what other fun places there might be around her home where she could take Yu Chuyao.
“But there’s still plenty of time, we can think about it slowly.” After all, they hadn’t finished their college entrance exams yet, and there would be a three-month holiday after the exams, plenty of time to take Yu Chuyao around to play.
Not to mention all the various holidays during university.
“What are you mumbling about over there?” Yu Chuyao was getting into the game and, seeing Tang Xiaorou still motionless, ran over to shake her arm: “Come play a round with me, we need to head back to class soon.”
“Alright~” Tang Xiaorou certainly wouldn’t refuse Yu Chuyao’s request.
“Remember to go easy on me.” Having witnessed Tang Xiaorou’s performance earlier, she certainly didn’t think she could compete with her, just wanted to try it out.
They played until they were satisfied, returning to class early, with about ten minutes before evening self-study began. By this time, most students rushing to make it on time had already arrived. When Yu Chuyao and Tang Xiaorou entered, they could immediately see that Su Yingying’s seat was still empty.
No need to guess, she was still consoling Xie Jin, and not having returned yet probably meant she hadn’t succeeded in comforting him.
Yu Chuyao and Tang Xiaorou exchanged glances, both silently smiling.
It seems our first male pursuer appearing in the original book received quite a blow today.
As the instigator, Tang Xiaorou shrugged helplessly: My bad~
