Chapter 41: Reformed Player?
***
Actually, Yu Chuyao misunderstood Tang Xiaorou.
She wasn’t trying to cause trouble, she just wanted to confirm whether her guess was correct.
With the shift in worldlines, some things would be different even if she remembered them. To prevent any future problems, she needed to verify the situation.
“Come on, I’m not just trying to join the drama,” Tang Xiaorou quickly explained: “I just want to see if Su Yingying is really dating someone.”
Dating? Who is she dating? Yu Chuyao was completely confused.
She hadn’t read the main story either, so she didn’t know what stage the story had reached, and naturally didn’t know which characters should appear in the book.
If that’s the case, going to take a look wouldn’t be a bad idea.
“Alright.”
Hearing Yu Chuyao’s affirmative response, Tang Xiaorou finally felt relieved. In her view, since she wanted to win Yu Chuyao’s heart, she naturally had to do everything well, just as her mother had taught her last time — first, let the other person know your willingness in everything you do.
So this kind of activity, like reporting your schedule to your wife, was very necessary.
The class break time of 10-20 minutes was too short. Fortunately, the next break would be lunch time, giving them plenty of time to observe.
Today was also the first time both of them would leave the teaching building to buy food during lunch. They didn’t rush out right after class, but slowly packed their things, waiting for Su Yingying to leave first.
However, Su Yingying seemed to be waiting for something too, not rushing to get food, staying in her seat until most classmates had left. She looked at the clock in front, and only got up when it reached a certain time.
The two also left together, thinking they would have to walk quite a distance before seeing who Su Yingying was looking for.
But unexpectedly, just after leaving the classroom, they turned their heads and saw Su Yingying standing beside a male student at the end of the distant corridor, leaving together while chatting and laughing.
“Oh!” Yu Chuyao couldn’t help but exclaim.
She was probably the only one who knew Su Yingying’s identity as the female protagonist in the novel, and understood that such a protagonist shouldn’t have casual romantic experiences. This was just high school, how could Su Yingying meet someone outstanding?
The story was getting more and more bizarre.
Tang Xiaorou frowned, her original 70-80% uncertainty now reduced to 20-30% after seeing Su Yingying walking with the boy. The rest would be confirmed once she could see his face clearly.
If it was as she thought, it must be that after she stopped pursuing, someone was forced to make a choice.
They weren’t really stalking, after all, there were only two paths to the cafeteria, and they were just taking the more crowded one.
When they went downstairs, the other two hadn’t gone far, and could be seen at the tail end of the crowd.
Without the corner blocking the view, Tang Xiaorou could finally see the other person’s face clearly, and suddenly understood.
Xie Jin. She knew him.
It was hard not to recognize him, as he was always among the top 5 in the grade, taking exams in the same room as her every time. Even though they weren’t in the same class, his face was familiar enough.
Not to mention all his various titles at school, words like wealthy family background and 188cm tall athletic handsome guy were spread among many girls. If Tang Xiaorou and Su Yingying were the most sought-after girls among the boys, then Xie Jin was the widely discussed male idol among the girls.
In her previous life, Tang Xiaorou remembered that Su Yingying and Xie Jin did have an ambiguous relationship, but that was almost near the college entrance exam, not as early as now.
She was such an idiot back then, seeing their ambiguous relationship and still shamelessly showing off in front of Su Yingying, forcibly keeping them apart, acting like some modern-day imperial nanny.
Now seeing this didn’t cause any ripples in her heart, if she likes him then so be it, having Yu Chuyao was enough for her.
“You know him?” Seeing Tang Xiaorou’s reaction, Yu Chuyao tugged at her clothes and asked quietly.
“Yes,” Tang Xiaorou smiled and explained: “That’s Xie Jin, ranked fourth in our grade.”
Oh, I don’t know him.
Yu Chuyao couldn’t care less about who ranked where in the grade, she couldn’t even remember her classmates’ names yet!
“You’re so familiar with him?”
“Of course, because I’m ranked third,” Tang Xiaorou chuckled, looking quite proud.
It was hard not to be proud, after all, Tang Xiaorou’s third place was achieved without using her full effort, as most of her energy was spent on Su Yingying, though now it’s spent on being a personal chef.
And Xie Jin had always been one rank below her, throughout their high school life his highest rank was just fourth.
No one would always remember a classmate who ranks below them, unless they’re always one rank below.
Xie Jin… Yu Chuyao started to recall if he was mentioned when she read the original book’s introduction and information.
Come to think of it, he was!
After receiving the recommendation to read the book, she had properly looked through the details page, at least confidently scanning through the introduction and such.
This book was quite popular on the website, so the information section had set up names and positions for each main character. Xie Jin happened to be among them, seemingly the first male character to fall in love with the female lead?
“Looks like she’s a bit panicked after doing poorly on the last exam,” Since they had confirmed the information so quickly, there was no need to follow anymore, so they just slowly walked towards the cafeteria.
Panicked? Yu Chuyao remembered that she had done better than Su Yingying in the last exam.
Which means, because she’s worried about not being able to get into university with her grades, she approached Xie Jin who had been secretly in love with her.
As for whether they were officially dating or just in an ambiguous relationship, Tang Xiaorou and Yu Chuyao exchanged glances, both feeling it was the latter.
If they were really dating, they wouldn’t be so secretive about it.
Moreover, as the female lead who would become entangled in unclear relationships with multiple “quality male characters” in the book, how could Su Yingying settle down so quickly with just one person?
“This is good too,” Tang Xiaorou expressed her opinion at this point.
Yu Chuyao didn’t understand, looking at her questioningly: “What’s good?”
Tang Xiaorou nodded solemnly, her expression very serious, as if making some grave declaration: “This way she won’t have time to bounce around in front of me anymore.”
And since she’s already started looking for a so-called “next person,” that means she probably won’t suspect that I hate her anymore, right?
But if Yu Chuyao knew what she was thinking, she would definitely criticize: Aren’t you underestimating the psychology of such a female lead? She might be playing hard to get, finding an excellent male student to give you a sense of crisis about truly losing her.
“I doubt it,” Yu Chuyao had her own view: “I don’t think things are that simple.”
Would Su Yingying really just quietly try to improve her grades and have an ambiguous relationship with Xie Jin?
Given this book’s setting, definitely not.
