Chapter 38: She’s Mentally Ill!
***
For the first mock exam after returning to senior year, both Tang Xiaorou with her good grades and Yu Chuyao with her average performance were a bit nervous.
Yu Chuyao was nervous because after her college entrance exam in her previous life, she had forgotten knowledge quite quickly, as if her three months of university life had almost formatted her brain.
Besides, she hadn’t experienced any exams during those three months in university, well… unless you count that mid-term English exam that only required writing an essay as a test…
Therefore, after about half a year had passed, seeing the school’s large-scale mobilization for mock exams again inevitably brought some nostalgia.
The main reason was… thinking that there would be exams all day, she didn’t need to wake up so early, but slept until after 6 AM before arriving at school directly for the exam!
As for Tang Xiaorou, it was partly minor worry and mostly excitement.
The worry came from thinking that although she had caught up with her studies during this time, she hadn’t taken any tests for many years in her previous life and wasn’t sure if she could maintain her grades at their proper level in this exam-oriented education system.
The excitement was because she felt that even if she dropped a few ranks, it shouldn’t be a big problem, as Su Yingying and Jiang Xinxin behind her couldn’t catch up no matter how hard they tried.
This wasn’t like the tortoise and hare race where the hare celebrates halfway, she had absolute confidence.
However, there was still one issue at hand.
That was that Tang Xiaorou and Yu Chuyao were assigned to exam rooms quite far apart.
Although it was a mock exam, the papers were printed city-wide while the exam arrangements were made by the school, so the format was still similar to before. Tang Xiaorou, being first in class and among the top in school, was naturally arranged in the first exam room.
Meanwhile, Yu Chuyao ranked 47th out of 60 students in class in the last exam, and even in the advanced class, she would only rank around 500th in the whole school, meaning their exam rooms were two floors apart.
“It’s okay, believe that after this exam, you’ll gradually move up.” Tang Xiaorou couldn’t remember how many points Yu Chuyao scored in the final college entrance exam in her previous life, but it wasn’t too bad, and with her tutoring in this life, she should be able to improve further.
“Mm.” Yu Chuyao didn’t really care about the exam room arrangement, even if they put her in the last exam room, she thought it would be interesting. After all, that’s basically where all the unique characters were, encompassing all sorts of capable people, and watching them display their various abilities after finishing the exam could help pass the time, right?
However, when she went to her exam room, she discovered a familiar figure.
Su Yingying? Yu Chuyao was surprised when she saw her, how could the female lead’s grades be similar to hers?
Logically, Tang Xiaorou would continue to chase after Su Yingying later, but she thought Tang Xiaorou wouldn’t be foolish enough to give up a university she could enter with her high scores to apply for one that didn’t match her score level.
Or would there be a phoenix rising plot twist, with a breakthrough in the college entrance exam? Directly improving by 100 or 200 points to enter a key university?
Well, she wasn’t sure, she’d better focus on her own matters first.
She was among the last few in this exam room, while Su Yingying was in the second position, with quite a gap between them spanning dozens of people.
When Su Yingying saw Yu Chuyao in the same exam room, there was still some of her usual arrogance in her eyes, feeling that although she couldn’t compare to Tang Xiaorou, she could easily surpass Yu Chuyao, whom she saw as Tang Xiaorou’s “substitute.”
The first subject was Chinese, which was Yu Chuyao’s strong suit, and it was quite easy. But sitting in the exam room for two and a half hours still required her to take a break midway to get some fresh air.
This kind of exam wasn’t like the college entrance exam; basically all six subjects were completed in one day, including evening self-study, with paper discussion starting tomorrow and results coming out the day after.
So with such a tight, continuous schedule, taking appropriate breaks was necessary. For her, spending this time cramming with a book like others would be counterproductive.
At this moment, Tang Xiaorou came to find her.
“How was it? The exam just now.” She also pulled out some snacks from her pocket for refreshment, all of which Yu Chuyao had seen in Mrs. Tang’s snack shop. However, there were quite a variety, and with frequent new additions, she hadn’t tried them all.
“Mm, Chinese was quite simple.” Even if Yu Chuyao left the six points for classical poetry blank, she could still score above 120.
“That’s good.” Tang Xiaorou smiled: “Then how about English later?”
“Pff!” She had barely tasted the snack in her mouth when Tang Xiaorou’s words interrupted her, making her cough several times before recovering: “Uh… about that… if you’re talking about English…”
You could even mention math to her, but English was off-limits.
Having to memorize so many words was really difficult for her.
Tang Xiaorou smiled, not intentionally trying to trouble Yu Chuyao, but the next exam really was English, and knowing it was her weakest link, it was hard not to worry a bit. Fortunately, her state after the Chinese exam should be good enough, so continuing with the exams should lead to some exceptional performance?
The two were chatting while leaning against the corridor railing when Su Yingying, who had gone to get water, returned. Seeing the two chatting and laughing on the side, she suddenly felt a surge of anger.
Somehow, her performance in the last exam had been a bit off. Questions she thought she knew before took a long time to figure out today, and she even almost ran out of time for the essay, barely finishing as the teacher was collecting papers.
She was already emotionally affected by this, and seeing the two like this made her even more angry.
So much so that when passing by them to enter the classroom, she couldn’t help but let out a harsh “hmph.”
This caught the attention of both of them; even in the noisy environment, they still keenly caught Su Yingying’s “hmph.”
It couldn’t be helped, the targeting was too strong to ignore.
“What’s wrong with her?” Yu Chuyao was confused, she hadn’t had much direct interaction with her from before the exam until after, how could she provoke her? Surely the female lead shouldn’t have such petty thoughts?
“Ignore her.” Tang Xiaorou laughed dismissively and made a sharp assessment: “This woman has been mentally ill for more than a day or two.”
That’s true… Yu Chuyao also felt this was quite different from the female leads she had seen in her impression? Could it be that the author of this book just likes this kind of mentally peculiar female lead?
Anyway, Yu Chuyao didn’t understand.
“It’s fine, after today’s exam, she won’t be able to laugh when the results come out the day after tomorrow.” Based on Su Yingying’s state, Tang Xiaorou could already be certain that the outcome of their “bet” would inevitably be failure.
