Chapter 36: Get Lost!
***
Su Yingying and Jiang Xinxin suddenly noticed that Tang Xiaorou seemed less attentive to Yu Chuyao these past two days?
Although she still bought things every day, this feeling couldn’t be wrong. In contrast to earlier times, Tang Xiaorou would have wanted to be taped together with Yu Chuyao for the dozen or so hours they were at school.
But these past few days she clearly maintained a distance, and the two even had periods where they were separated.
Does this mean that Tang Xiaorou’s previous attentiveness was just for show?
“It must be like this, think about it Yingying.” Jiang Xinxin started giving advice to Su Yingying again: “She definitely thought earlier that by pursuing the person with the lowest presence in class, it would create a contrast that would get your attention.”
“And now that she’s discovered chasing after a nobody doesn’t get your attention, her enthusiasm has cooled off.”
What Jiang Xinxin said made some sense.
Su Yingying also began to wonder what was going on with Tang Xiaorou’s constant mood swings lately.
It wasn’t that she cared about Tang Xiaorou, just that without her convenience, her high school life felt somewhat uncomfortable.
This was actually her normal high school life, it was just that Tang Xiaorou had taken a liking to her when entering high school and pursued her intensely.
“So you’re saying, as long as I maintain this attitude, when she realizes it’s not working, she’ll slowly come back?” Su Yingying wasn’t stupid, it’s just that many times she needed someone to play the bad cop, and Jiang Xinxin was just that person, of course, she was also happy to take on this role.
“Definitely.” Jiang Xinxin slapped her leg: “Think about it Yingying, when she first went to pursue Yu Chuyao, you hadn’t done anything wrong, right? How could she have a change of heart?”
To outsiders, it seemed this way. That morning, Tang Xiaorou had still attentively bought breakfast for Su Yingying, showing concern for her wellbeing. But within just a few hours during class break, she showed such a different attitude.
Like she had become a different person.
Normally, no one would believe this was some supernatural phenomenon, after all, while the novel’s setting wasn’t completely without plot holes, it still maintained basic urban school logic.
“I think it must have been her former seatmate Ran Xia’s idea.”
The two looked to the side, where previously, like them, Tang Xiaorou’s seat neighbor had been her close friend at school, who often gave advice like Jiang Xinxin did.
Just then Tang Xiaorou came back from outside, but didn’t immediately go find Yu Chuyao, instead first sitting down beside Ran Xia, chatting and laughing with her for a few sentences before leaving when class started.
This behavior made the two even more convinced their speculation was correct.
Until afternoon dismissal, today happened to be Su Yingying’s group’s turn to clean up. Because class seating arrangements might often change, cleaning duties weren’t assigned by seat, so even though Tang Xiaorou had moved to the back, it didn’t prevent her from still participating in cleaning duty with this group.
Previously, Tang Xiaorou would actively take on the work for Su Yingying and Jiang Xinxin, completing the sweeping, mopping, and window cleaning tasks alone, to the extent that the two basically never participated and left when it was time.
Now that Tang Xiaorou no longer took care of everything, they had to do it themselves.
Actually, sweeping and window cleaning weren’t difficult tasks. Although the classroom was large, there were several people, so each person’s assigned area was very small, and window cleaning especially didn’t require much physical effort.
At this moment Tang Xiaorou also didn’t plan to rush to get water for mopping, needing to wait for the sweeping to be finished first.
This meant she couldn’t go buy food for Yu Chuyao today, the little one would have to go to the cafeteria herself.
Thinking of this, she looked toward the most prominent person among those sweeping — Jiang Xinxin.
She was moving really slowly, acting like someone was torturing her.
Thinking she had nothing else to do, Tang Xiaorou, who had hurried to get water and then found a place to sit and wait, had just sat down when she saw Su Yingying walk up to her with a cleaning cloth.
“I need some water.” She pointed at the water bucket by Tang Xiaorou’s feet.
“Go get it yourself, this is being used.” Tang Xiaorou replied impatiently. She really had some nerve, how could she still try to get close when she knew Tang Xiaorou didn’t like her anymore?
Or could it be that this person was actually a hidden masochist? The more cold violence she received the more she liked it? She hadn’t heard about this fetish in her previous life?
Hearing this, Su Yingying’s hand gripping the cloth tightened involuntarily. If she and Jiang Xinxin hadn’t analyzed that Tang Xiaorou’s attitude was just pretending to be firm, and the reason she was still persisting must be because she had adjusted her mindset after talking with Ran Xia.
She also couldn’t give in, otherwise even if Tang Xiaorou pursued her again in the future, it would make her seem less proactive.
However, while she was standing there in a stalemate, Jiang Xinxin, who had rushed over after hearing the commotion, wasn’t so clever.
Sometimes you really don’t know what goes on in Jiang Xinxin’s head. If you say she’s stupid, when she analyzes problems for you, she can actually convince you; if you say she’s smart, what she says isn’t right, and she has no sense of reading the situation.
“Yingying just wants to use a bit of your water, what’s the big deal? It’s all going to be poured on the floor anyway!” While speaking, she bent down to grab the water bucket.
But Tang Xiaorou pressed down on the bucket, and it had just been lifted slightly when it fell to the ground with a bang.
She had originally gotten quite a lot of water, thinking to mop the whole classroom at once, so this caused it to immediately overflow from the opening, splashing right onto Su Yingying and Jiang Xinxin’s feet.
“You!” The two were startled, their shoes now completely soaked, making them very uncomfortable.
“What about me?”
“Tang Xiaorou!” Jiang Xinxin couldn’t hold back anymore: “Look what you’ve done, our shoes are all wet!”
Tang Xiaorou shrugged indifferently, indicating how was this her fault? Wasn’t it because they came over here to fight over the water bucket for no reason, when they could have just walked a few steps to the bathroom to wash their cloth.
“What does it have to do with me?”
“How is it not your fault!” Su Yingying couldn’t hold back anymore either: “We were just asking to borrow some water, was there any need to make such a big deal out of it?”
“This is water I got, mopping is my task, how to use it is my choice, is there any problem with that?” Tang Xiaorou didn’t understand, hadn’t the two been behaving themselves lately? Why were they coming to provoke her when she wasn’t even bothering them?
“It’s just your problem, what’s wrong with classmates helping each other?” Jiang Xinxin was getting reckless: “Anyway it’s your fault, today you have to take over all of mine and Yingying’s tasks.”
Um… are you sure?
Tang Xiaorou looked at them like she was looking at idiots. They say fish have 7-second memories before forgetting, could it be these two’s memories only last less than a month?
She patted the dust off her clothes, slowly stood up, and said coolly to the two.
“Get lost!”
