Chapter 33: Satisfied, very satisfied!
***
What she told Mrs. Tang wasn’t wrong, keeping Yu Chuyao here essentially meant Tang Xiaorou would come to her side as well.
After all, with Yu Chuyao here, what else could she do out there by herself? Make money?
Don’t joke around, in her previous life, she worked herself to exhaustion learning about investments and making money for Su Yingying. Hasn’t she lived hard enough? Isn’t it better to live peacefully with the person she likes in this life?
Sometimes, a simple life is the truest one~
Mrs. Tang was very satisfied with this serious young girl. Though she looked like a little sister standing next to Tang Xiaorou, she actually handled work without any carelessness.
Half a day passed, and the store didn’t need her to do much. Yu Chuyao and the other shop assistant had managed all the work.
She even had time to flirt and joke with Tang Xiaorou, who kept hanging around her.
Not bad, really not bad at all.
She herself also enjoyed watching Tang Xiaorou and Yu Chuyao in the store. After high school, the time she could see her daughter each day had decreased, so now she didn’t want to miss this opportunity.
Especially during Tang Xiaorou’s happiest moments.
Even though it was the weekend, there were still quite a few children coming to buy things from the store. Many kids had dance, painting, and other hobby classes, and they would specifically come here to buy things before and after class. Plus, when hanging out with friends on weekends, it was the same situation.
So unlike regular days when it was only busy during the four periods around school times, they stayed open until 8 or 9 at night, only closing when it got dark and children generally stopped going out.
“Xiao Yu, take these home and try them out.”
At closing time, Yu Chuyao saw Mrs. Tang putting some snacks in a bag. She thought they were for her own consumption, but unexpectedly, after packing, she handed the bag directly to her.
“Ah? There’s no need.” Yu Chuyao waved her hands repeatedly.
How much work had she really done here helping out? Compared to her previous summer job after the college entrance exam, this was practically like retirement. How could she accept food and gifts on top of that?
“It’s fine, these things are very cheap at wholesale prices, take them.” Mrs. Tang kept trying to put them in her hands.
In the end, Tang Xiaorou stepped in. She grabbed the items and accepted her mother’s kindness: “It’s okay mom, I’ll bring these along when I walk Yu Chuyao home later.”
With this response, Mrs. Tang was finally at ease.
Yu Chuyao gave her a slightly reproachful glare, poking her waist: “What are you doing!”
Wasn’t it agreed that she would help out without getting free meals? How is getting gifts after work any different from adding frost to snow!
But Tang Xiaorou shook her head: “Hey~ You just don’t understand.”
“If you don’t accept these, my mom won’t let you leave and will nag about it for half the day. If you really don’t take them, she’ll keep talking about it tomorrow when you come back, until you finally take them.”
“If you still don’t want them tomorrow, then I’ll have no choice but to give them to you at school in front of all our classmates.”
Uh… in that case, she’d better accept them properly. Comparatively, she felt it would be more embarrassing in front of her classmates.
“Don’t worry, my mom’s really nice, she just sees that you’re very likeable and wants to take care of you more.” Tang Xiaorou opened the bag to show Yu Chuyao what was inside: “A snack shop’s main selling point is variety and low prices, and wholesale prices are even lower, so all these things together don’t cost as much as one meal you eat at school.”
“So, don’t refuse anymore.”
Oh, is that so. Yu Chuyao didn’t quite understand, but with both mother and daughter saying this much, it was better to accept.
She wanted to ask about other things, but Tang Xiaorou gave her a look, indicating to leave things as they were for now and ask the remaining questions later.
Actually, she quite enjoyed helping out here, and if they still needed her after the college entrance exam, she hoped to continue coming here.
After closing, Mrs. Tang didn’t want Yu Chuyao to go back alone, so as mentioned earlier, she had Tang Xiaorou walk Yu Chuyao home.
When Tang Xiaorou returned home, she saw her mother sitting on the sofa, patting the space beside her, asking her to come sit down.
“How was it?” Tang Xiaorou couldn’t wait to hear her mother’s evaluation.
Mrs. Tang naturally nodded with satisfaction: “Such a lovely young girl.”
Of course, Tang Xiaorou smiled contentedly.
“Pretty, with a good personality too. I thought young people like you wouldn’t be willing to do such boring work.” Mrs. Tang also commented on Yu Chuyao’s character: “I saw you sitting there, having to say a few words now and then, even taking out your phone when it got late. But when she had work to do, she didn’t pay attention to you at all, and I never saw her slack off even once.”
“Compared to that Su Yingying you were watching before…” Just thinking about this made Mrs. Tang angry. She had spent so much time trying to persuade Tang Xiaorou not to fixate on Su Yingying, saying she wasn’t suitable for her at all.
But did Tang Xiaorou listen? No.
Fortunately, now Tang Xiaorou had somehow come to this realization on her own.
“This is so much better.”
In response to this, Tang Xiaorou, who had been proud just moments ago, awkwardly scratched her head. Everything her mother said was irrefutable; none of her actions could escape her mother’s eyes.
“Just don’t know if she’ll be able to like my daughter.” Not thinking too much about it, Tang Xiaorou threw herself into her mother’s arms: “That’s why I wanted you to see her, and now that you’re satisfied, you have to help me win her over!”
“Naturally, I think Xiao Yu is a good child.”
Regarding their child’s sexual orientation, both she and Tang’s father had expressed from early on that they wouldn’t restrict it much. Whoever Tang Xiaorou likes, whether boy or girl, as long as she herself is happy, it’s fine.
As for continuing the family line, the Yu family has more than just one child in this generation, so it’s best to be open-minded about it.
“By the way, did you tell Xiao Yu what she’d get for helping out at my place?”
She almost forgot about this matter. Since Yu Chuyao’s available time each week varied, it couldn’t be calculated like normal employment, so it was better to treat it as a friend helping out.
So just giving what seems appropriate would be fine.
“No need, I brought her here in the first place so she wouldn’t feel like she was freeloading off me.” Tang Xiaorou waved her hand, indicating these weren’t important matters.
Even if you gave Yu Chuyao money, she probably wouldn’t accept it. Just continuing to bring her meals in the future should be fine, and she probably won’t be so cautious anymore.
“Alright~ As long as you’ve thought it through, mom’s just providing a little help.” Holding her beloved daughter, Mrs. Tang felt somewhat emotional, her daughter was really becoming more mature.
In the future, she would not only need to take care of herself but also another little one.
That’s quite nice too. Such a cute young girl, Mrs. Tang was very satisfied.
“Since that’s the case, you better hurry up and ‘lure’ her back home for mom~”
