Chapter 25: Study, Rest, and Admire Beauty
***
Thanks to the wig headband prepared by Tang Xiaorou, no one noticed that Yu Chuyao had cut her hair during the subsequent classes.
Her naturally low presence was one reason people didn’t pay attention to her, but even those sitting next to her only gave her a casual glance without noticing anything unusual.
Only someone like her mother, who had cared for her over many years, could spot Yu Chuyao’s changes at first glance.
After all, when you love someone, you notice even the slightest changes immediately.
The only downside was that it seemed to give a certain someone next to her an advantage.
Because Yu Chuyao’s original seat was in the last row of the class, and with many books and test papers piled on the desk, just lowering her head would hide it behind them. Unless she stood up, no one could really see what she was doing.
Therefore, students sitting behind only needed to be slightly careful, and whatever they did privately wouldn’t be noticed by those in front. The same applied when blocking the view from the side.
This led to Tang Xiaorou often teasing Yu Chuyao during class by deliberately playing with her wig, and even taking it off with one swift motion.
“You!” Yu Chuyao would initially be startled, afraid that people would see her after the headband was removed, but as soon as she made a sound, Tang Xiaorou would cover her mouth and remind her: “Shh.”
Closing one eye, Tang Xiaorou held up her index finger to her lips, saying playfully: “If you don’t want people to find out, stay quiet, okay?”
Plus, since the headband was still in her hand, Yu Chuyao eventually gave in and quietly continued doing her exercises and listening to class.
She endured it, after all, it was her idea to cut her hair, and the wig headband was given by her, so she couldn’t really say much.
Besides, no one was paying attention to her, and Tang Xiaorou beside her conveniently blocked others’ view. As long as she turned sideways, only she could admire Yu Chuyao’s profile.
Tang Xiaorou grew increasingly satisfied with what she saw.
In her previous life, she liked Su Yingying partly due to more complex factors, but mostly because of her attractive appearance.
Although after high school graduation, she met many beautiful girls in university and society who were even prettier than Su Yingying. But you know, usually the first person you fall for often holds a very important place in your heart.
And this position generally becomes more significant as time passes, which could be considered a first love bonus in some way?
But once you stop liking someone, that bonus effect disappears. Tang Xiaorou acknowledged that Su Yingying was beautiful, but among the many beautiful girls she had seen, even with makeup on, she would rate her at most 7 out of 10.
Yu Chuyao was different. When they met at the class reunion, she couldn’t be equated with that gloomy nobody hidden behind long bangs. With careful styling, her beauty could easily be mistaken for that of a celebrity or idol.
The two couldn’t even be compared.
Thinking about this, Tang Xiaorou couldn’t help but reach out to touch Yu Chuyao’s profile, the warmth from touching the soft skin making her delighted.
Yu Chuyao’s hand, which had been normally writing, paused at this moment. Her left hand, originally pressing down on the test paper on the desk, unconsciously clenched into a fist, suppressing the helplessness in her heart.
“I’d say that’s enough,” she closed her eyes and said in a low tone.
This slightly angry appearance didn’t frighten Tang Xiaorou; instead, she smiled. Yu Chuyao hadn’t pushed away or knocked off her hand, showing that she was just speaking words, but actually permitting it in her heart.
“I just think you’re pretty~”
Well, looking is fine, but why the touching? Yu Chuyao gave her a sidelong glance and continued writing her test paper.
“Why don’t we try putting some makeup on you during break next time?”
“No.”
“Don’t you have makeup? Come to my house and use mine.”
“No need.”
“Eh? Is it too troublesome? I’ll just buy some and give them to you.”
💢.
She’s so annoying! Yu Chuyao never thought there would be a day when she would find someone else annoying, and the key was that she couldn’t really argue with her.
In the end, she could only use a very helpless reason, hoping to give her something to do.
“Classmate Xiaorou, don’t you really need to study properly?” She sighed helplessly, voicing what was also her current concern.
Returning to high school was torturous, but it also gave her another chance to take the college entrance exam. Before transmigrating into the book, her grades weren’t good, and she got into a very ordinary university, the kind that few people would know about when mentioned.
One important reason she didn’t object to Tang Xiaorou moving to sit beside her was her status as top of the class.
“Oh, sitting with Classmate Chuyao makes my study efficiency very high!”
In her previous life, she had always been a good student, both in high school and university. In the first few days after transmigrating back, her memory of knowledge might have been a bit fuzzy, but after recent intensive study, she could keep up again.
So she wasn’t worried, studying while resting and admiring beauty was a good balance of work and rest, not wasting time.
Hehe.
Yu Chuyao couldn’t say much, after all, having Tang Xiaorou beside her was truly helpful for studying, she would teach her anything she didn’t understand.
When the bell rang, the teacher at the podium didn’t drag on and directly packed up to leave. Tang Xiaorou quickly put the wig headband back on Yu Chuyao’s head, and the next moment, surrounding classmates stood up to move around.
If it had been a second later, people might have seen it; they were playing it to the extreme.
Yu Chuyao cleaned up her desk preparing to go to the bathroom, just as she stood up she remembered something and said to Tang Xiaorou who was also preparing to go: “Don’t follow me!”
Yu Chuyao didn’t understand why girls liked to go to the bathroom in groups of two or three, anyway, she didn’t want to do that.
Tang Xiaorou, who was rejected outright, was very disappointed, but after all, she had to respect personal habits. Maybe because she had been alone more often before and didn’t have many friends, Tang Xiaorou nodded, watching Yu Chuyao quickly leave.
With no one beside her, the idle Tang Xiaorou had time to look at others in the classroom.
The look wouldn’t have been bad, but when she looked toward the front row, she made eye contact with that person she didn’t want to encounter.
Su Yingying was actually looking at her at this time.
Weren’t you being very tough? These past few days seeing her not revolving around her anymore, still putting on airs in front of her. Tang Xiaorou didn’t think the other person was concerned about her.
Most likely she was missing the benefits she used to bring her.
Previously, she had treated Su Yingying like a princess, now the Cinderella magic had disappeared, and this wasn’t just a twelve-hour experience, after more than 2 years of being pampered, suddenly losing it was enough to make her feel bad.
This was exactly the effect Tang Xiaorou wanted. That feeling of losing her high and mighty position yet being too proud to try to recover it was most pleasing to outsiders.
