Chapter 23: True Face and Disguise
***
When Tang Xiaorou stroked her bangs, Yu Chuyao had reason to suspect that this person might know something.
Otherwise, why would she suddenly bring her to get a haircut?
“No way!” Yu Chuyao had no intention of getting a haircut, after all, she had confirmed her appearance under those bangs the moment she arrived in this book world.
If you were to ask Yu Chuyao what made her become a nobody that no one would remember in high school, her answer would definitely be these long bangs.
Now you’re telling her to cut them off? She absolutely refuses, one hundred times over.
Joking aside, before the cut, when Tang Xiaorou pursued her, others might have just smiled and moved on. After all, with the “pearl” Su Yingying around, coming to pursue Yu Chuyao might have just been for fun, or to test Su Yingying’s patience.
But after cutting it… they might really lose interest in Su Yingying.
She would also end up being targeted by Su Yingying because of it. That person is the female protagonist of the original book, probably some kind of destined child. There would definitely be no good outcome from opposing her.
“It’s fine.” Tang Xiaorou held her arm, preventing her from turning to escape. “I’ve arranged everything. There won’t be any problems after the cut.”
After experiencing death once, she was no longer as reckless and rash as before. Without absolute certainty, how could she bring Yu Chuyao here?
“So…” She pulled Yu Chuyao to the position already arranged by the hairdresser. During the half-day break, many people wanted to go out and relax, so there weren’t many students coming for haircuts. It would only be crowded during the 3-hour period. “Just accept the ‘makeover’ I’ve arranged for you~”
Being pushed onto the chair in confusion, the hairdresser skillfully tied a white cloth around her, and the whole process was done before she could even react.
“Young lady, how would you like it cut?” The hairdresser asked for the opinion of the person involved. Though it might have also been directed at Tang Xiaorou beside her.
Yu Chuyao’s hair was very long. Not only did her bangs cover half her face, but her back hair had also grown past her waist, almost reaching her thighs.
She wondered how the school allowed such long hair, as Yu Chuyao remembered that most high schools usually had requirements for students’ hairstyles. Boys couldn’t have hair past their eyebrows, and girls couldn’t have bangs past their eyebrows, nor could they have hair too long covering their shoulders and ears.
She was undoubtedly an exception, yet no one had pointed it out or criticized it, tsk tsk.
“Just trim the bangs and the parts around the ears, leave the back alone.” Tang Xiaorou made some gestures above, giving her suggestion.
Though it couldn’t really be called a suggestion, as Yu Chuyao felt like she was just a doll being groomed, with no say in the matter.
“Alright, I understand what you mean.” The hairdresser, who appeared to have many years of experience, quickly understood her meaning and began taking out scissors, boldly moving to “cut” those long bangs.
It was different from cutting boys’ hair. While boys’ hair also started with scissors when it got long, the back would need to be buzzed with clippers, leaving only a bit of the already short hair.
But girls didn’t need this, after all, every part needed to maintain some length, otherwise it would look too unsightly.
Therefore, the scissors danced in front of Yu Chuyao’s eyes for quite a while, flying back and forth with quick cuts, directly cutting off the bangs, and her previously obscured vision suddenly became bright.
After several days of adaptation, she had gotten used to these thick, long bangs. Having them suddenly cut off gave her a feeling of lightness that made her feel a bit dazed.
However, the process wasn’t as quick afterwards, because after shortening, it needed to be slowly adjusted to achieve an attractive look, and couldn’t be done so casually anymore.
Plus, Tang Xiaorou beside her would occasionally offer guidance, telling the hairdresser how to cut it to look better.
Tang Xiaorou had something to say about it too. Although in her previous life she had only seen the transformed swan-like Yu Chuyao a few times at class reunions, it was enough for her to keep that image in her heart. Now she was just bringing out that appearance ahead of time.
Without realizing it, Yu Chuyao fell asleep. She couldn’t remember clearly what processes came after, just that in her half-asleep state she felt someone constantly pulling and tugging at her hair, not knowing what they were doing.
“All done!” Finally, after who knows how long, someone shook her shoulder, telling her not to keep sleeping.
“Quick, open your eyes and look.” Tang Xiaorou was also urging her.
Rubbing her eyes, Yu Chuyao became a bit more awake, though her just-opened eyes were still a bit blurry, making it hard to see clearly what she looked like in the mirror.
But after becoming alert, just one glance at herself in the mirror made her mind instantly clear.
The overall hairstyle hadn’t changed much, with no perming or coloring, mainly focusing on the front. The bangs that were like curtains before had been cut by more than half, with the front length just right. The sides no longer covered everything, and with a slight brush could reveal her small cute ears, better highlighting her originally delicate face.
Beautiful. Even knowing it was herself, Yu Chuyao couldn’t help but praise it in her heart.
Thankfully she had transmitted into the body of a pretty girl, otherwise she really wouldn’t have been able to handle it psychologically.
However, it returned to the concern she had before the haircut, wouldn’t this expose her face? How could she remain a nobody now!
“This change is too dramatic!” Yu Chuyao complained to Tang Xiaorou in dissatisfaction: “How can I…”
Before she could finish, Tang Xiaorou smiled and took something out from behind her, while also comforting her.
“Don’t worry, I’ve prepared everything. Just wear this, and won’t it be similar to before?”
Yu Chuyao, who was just complaining, suddenly found her vision darkened again. Tang Xiaorou had put something like a headband on her head, but unlike a normal headband, it had hair-like strands hanging down like bangs, covering her newly exposed face.
At first glance, it really looked similar to before the cut.
Yu Chuyao was stunned, unable to speak the words on the tip of her tongue, somewhat disbelievingly touching that headband to confirm its existence.
Actually, this thing wasn’t rare, it could be bought online, though those were no different from regular straight bangs. So Tang Xiaorou, who had been thinking about revealing Yu Chuyao’s appearance, had arranged this a few days ago and had this custom-made.
(Found this kind of thing while shopping for clothes last month, hehe (¬◡¬)✧)
The size was just right, and when worn on the head, unless someone carefully bent down to look closely, it wouldn’t be discovered.
Taking it off again revealed the well-groomed, gentle, cute, and beautiful young lady from before, and now there was nothing to worry about anymore.
However, Yu Chuyao couldn’t help but suspect whether this person had known about her situation beforehand, which was why she specially did this.
How else could everything before her be explained!
