Chapter 22: Hidden Rich Lady!
***
After taking off her school uniform, Yu Chuyao actually didn’t have much to wear.
She went through the closet at home, finding only 4 or 5 pieces for each season, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. For a girl, this was indeed too little.
The closet wasn’t even full, looking rather poor.
Although for high school students who mostly wear uniforms, having a few casual clothes for rotation would suffice, but compared to the female classmates Yu Chuyao had noticed wearing different outfits for days without repetition, this wardrobe was more like what a boy would have.
Well, she’ll just have to make do with less for now. Yu Chuyao had no way to change this situation at the moment. After getting into university, she could find a part-time job to earn some money and supplement her wardrobe.
However, what surprised her was that Tang Xiaorou had also dressed quite simply. She had seen girls in their class who would skip lunch just to put on makeup, but Tang Xiaorou was like her, bare-faced, wearing long sleeves and pants. Standing together, they didn’t look much different.
“Classmate Tang, where shall we go shopping?”
“Hey, we’re on holiday and outside school now, isn’t calling me ‘Classmate Tang’ too formal and distant?” Tang Xiaorou hopped around, showing her inner joy. “Just call me Xiaorou in private, or Rourou is fine too.”
“Uh… okay, Xiaorou.”
With Yu Chuyao making this small concession in addressing her, Tang Xiaorou didn’t pursue it further and continued leading her randomly through the streets.
She didn’t have a specific destination in mind, just thinking they might encounter something interesting or some nice shops while walking around.
Though Tang Xiaorou’s movements seemed bouncy, she was actually holding back. She was half a head taller than Yu Chuyao, and whether by habit or something else, it took Yu Chuyao three steps to barely keep up with Tang Xiaorou’s two. If she hadn’t done this, Yu Chuyao would have been left far behind in just a few minutes.
Yu Chuyao herself was also helpless about her current height and build being like a middle school girl, she could only try her best to follow behind Tang Xiaorou like a little tail.
“Oh, isn’t this Rourou? How long is your senior high class break today?”
“Half day.”
“Then you must rest well. Come have some fruit at auntie’s shop?”
“Xiaorou, come here, I just grilled some skewers, take some to eat on your way.”
“Hey old bull, how dare you try to steal my customer.”
…
As they walked past the storefronts opposite their school, people kept coming up to greet Tang Xiaorou every few steps. Their tone was very friendly, as if they had known her for a long time.
They even kept running over to hand her things, afraid she wouldn’t accept them.
This aroused Yu Chuyao’s curiosity, leaving her puzzled and confused. She thought for a long time but couldn’t understand why Tang Xiaorou was so popular.
While responding to the shop owners’ greetings, Tang Xiaorou noticed Yu Chuyao resting her chin on her hand, still unable to figure it out.
“Are you wondering why everyone knows me?” So she took the initiative to ask, saving Yu Chuyao from being too reserved to ask.
Yu Chuyao hadn’t expected Tang Xiaorou to ask this directly. She was stunned for a moment, then nodded after coming to her senses.
Tang Xiaorou smiled, leaned close to Yu Chuyao, bent down to her ear, and whispered.
“Because they’re all renting shops from my family.”
Huh???
Yu Chuyao was surprised, staring at Tang Xiaorou in disbelief, her gaze shifting back and forth between her and the street shops.
Suddenly she understood why Tang Xiaorou could be written as a villainess in the book’s synopsis. If each stage of the protagonist’s life — high school, university, and society — was considered a separate chapter, then in this early high school chapter, Tang Xiaorou was undoubtedly the one with the most resources and greatest capabilities.
She hadn’t read the plot, but based on her interactions with Tang Xiaorou these past few days, it was possible that she continued to grow and expand, playing an important role even in the latter half of the story after university?
No wonder she could bring breakfast and buy lunch for Su Yingying and others every day, turns out this amount of money probably meant nothing to her.
“My family used to do business in the south, but later when my grandfather’s health declined, my parents brought their money back home. They happened to arrive just as the residential area near the school was completed, so they spent some money buying some storefronts to rent out.”
You call that ‘some’? Yu Chuyao was speechless, holding her forehead to prevent herself from getting dizzy and falling over.
So you’re telling me that at such a young age, you’re already living the life of collecting rent and achieving financial freedom?
Suddenly she felt like changing her mind and clinging to her big leg to live a life of plenty.
Provided this world wouldn’t fall into chaos due to her changing the storyline.
“That’s… amazing.” Yu Chuyao commented dazedly.
Tang Xiaorou chuckled. This was basically common knowledge at school, after all, she was quite high-profile. When no one knew about this at first, there were even rumors that she had a sugar daddy.
Later when the truth came out, she inevitably became the target of many boys, but unfortunately for them, she was a lesbian who wasn’t interested in that.
Before they even finished walking down this street, their hands were already full of items, and they didn’t even need to buy anything. Eating as they walked, this also relieved Yu Chuyao of her sense of indebtedness to Tang Xiaorou, whatever was shared with her, she just ate it.
Originally, she thought she just needed to follow behind Tang Xiaorou, not having to manage anything, eating and playing without either of them spending money, just going with the flow.
But soon she realized something was wrong, because Tang Xiaorou stopped in front of a shop, and the three-colored rotating light hanging above it revealed its purpose without even looking at the shop name.
A hair salon? Yu Chuyao was confused, was Tang Xiaorou going to get her hair done? High school should have rules against students dyeing or perming their hair, at most they could just get a trim.
She wasn’t given much time to think, as Tang Xiaorou opened the shop door and pushed Yu Chuyao inside.
“Welcome, would you like a wash and perm?” The young lady at the front desk looked at them and asked with a smile.
I didn’t come in here by choice! Yu Chuyao didn’t know how to respond, she could only look at Tang Xiaorou, not knowing what she was up to.
“Mm, a haircut.” Tang Xiaorou raised her hand and brushed Yu Chuyao’s bangs on her forehead, her intentions already clear.
!
No!
For a moment, Yu Chuyao wanted to leave immediately. Because she knew her current “nobody” identity was largely due to this deceptive hairstyle.
What would happen if it was cut off… she didn’t know.
But Tang Xiaorou knew! She had been thinking about Yu Chuyao’s appearance for a long time, ever since she came back after her rebirth and saw Yu Chuyao, she had wanted to cut off that hairstyle that was hiding her beauty.
So… just give in to me, hehe.
