Chapter 21: Only Half a Day Off?
***
The day Yu Chuyao first transmigrated was a Thursday.
Unfortunately, there was only one KFC in this city district, and her living allowance wasn’t enough to support her trying Crazy Thursday (just kidding).
Ahem, back to the topic. Two days had passed now, and Saturday and Sunday had arrived – the school’s rest time.
From other classmates’ mouths, Yu Chuyao learned about Q City First High School’s holiday principles.
What she didn’t know shocked her when she heard it.
Apparently, since entering high school, the weekly rest periods here were divided into major weeks, minor weeks, and three-hour breaks. Major weeks had rest from Saturday noon until before Sunday evening self-study; minor weeks from Saturday afternoon until the next day’s morning self-study. And the three-hour break meant that the week before a major break, students only had three hours of freedom to leave school from 4 PM to 7 PM on Saturday.
Goodness, was this some kind of military management? Even weekly rest periods were so stingy.
Yu Chuyao deeply understood the hardships of high school students, but she never expected there would be a school this harsh…
When others transmigrated or entered novels, they either became wealthy young ladies or rich young masters, or otherworld heroes and demon kings, how did she end up becoming a suffering high school student…
Fortunately, this restarted senior year life would be less than a year, just hang in there and try to get into a good university to fulfill a dream.
This week was lucky enough, it was a minor week with half a day of rest time.
Early in the morning when she came to school, she saw many boarding students wearing their own clothes under their uniforms, waiting to shed their uniforms and rush outside after school.
“Do you have any plans after school?” During the last class, Tang Xiaorou, who had become her desk mate, tilted her head and smiled while organizing the test papers on her desk.
“Ah…” Yu Chuyao was somewhat dazed, her attention still on the teacher’s problem-solving method at the podium: “I don’t know.”
Indeed, she didn’t know. She barely had any money in hand, the startup funds had completely killed any thoughts of going out to spend. And her mother, being a hospital worker, had uncertain working hours, so she still needed to check her phone after school to ask if she should go home.
So this half-day holiday didn’t mean anything special to her, it seemed there weren’t many things she could do.
Yu Chuyao’s answer made Tang Xiaorou’s eyes light up.
Since the answer was “don’t know,” it meant Yu Chuyao wasn’t affected by external factors, so as long as she made reasonable suggestions, they would basically all be accepted, right?
“That’s good.” Tang Xiaorou made a “that’s great” gesture, leaving Yu Chuyao somewhat confused.
Realizing she had gotten a bit carried away, Tang Xiaorou quickly adjusted her posture, sat up straight again, and then put on a particularly solemn and sacred expression, saying: “Then Classmate Yu, can I ask you for a favor later?”
Such solemnity also startled Yu Chuyao, who thought something big was about to happen, causing her to sit up straight as well, standing out in the mixed and busy back row area where everyone was doing their own thing.
Fortunately, it was almost time to dismiss class, and the teacher didn’t really care anymore, seeing the two’s unusual behavior and turning a blind eye.
“Classmate Tang, don’t be like this, it’s a bit too serious.”
“Oh, is that so.” So the little one doesn’t like me being so serious and keeping distance? Then why was she so distant when I was giving her benefits?
Tang Xiaorou, thinking a different way of expression would be more convenient and useful, heard this and no longer pretended to be serious, relaxing.
“I just want to go shopping outside with you in the afternoon.”
Most students would take advantage of this rare rest time to go out and play. After all, most of the week was spent in intense study, fighting for every minute and second, it wouldn’t hurt to take this little time, maintain proper relaxation, otherwise too much concentrated pressure would affect the spirit and lead to halved effectiveness.
Shopping… Yu Chuyao considered it again in her heart.
Although she had no money, going out for a walk should be fine, right? Getting familiar with the city would also count as exploration beyond the book’s plot.
Besides, shopping between girls doesn’t necessarily require spending money… right?
Yu Chuyao wasn’t quite sure, after all, she had been single for 18 years since birth, and hadn’t even held a girl’s hand before, sob sob sob.
After thinking back and forth, following the principle of not wanting to get involved with more relationships with the villainess, Yu Chuyao was planning to refuse Tang Xiaorou, but when she looked up and saw the anticipation in the latter’s eyes, along with a hint of pleading, as if Yu Chuyao’s refusal would make her cry on the spot.
Ah… this suddenly became quite difficult.
She wasn’t the type with very firm willpower, easily influenced or even tempted by external things. Seeing a beautiful girl so looking forward to her companionship, rationality and sensibility constantly collided in her heart, neither able to gain the upper hand.
“If you really don’t have time.” Seeing Yu Chuyao’s very conflicted expression and still not giving her a response, Tang Xiaorou could only sigh, expressing her understanding: “Then forget it, we can wait until the next major break.”
However, since there was a half-day minor break this week, next week would definitely only have three hours, and for a full-day major break, it would take at least half a month.
This news could not help but make one sad.
Such a dejected appearance suddenly felt like a sharp blade, piercing Yu Chuyao’s heart.
How could she let a beautiful girl show such an expression? This made Yu Chuyao, who had memories from before transmigrating, unable to bear it, and she quickly waved her hands, indicating she didn’t mean it that way.
“No, don’t misunderstand.” Yu Chuyao immediately added: “Going shopping with you is fine, I just need to ask my mom after school.”
“Great, then it’s settled.” Although Yu Chuyao hadn’t given a definitive answer, Tang Xiaorou decided this was basically ninety percent certain, making a fist with one hand, like someone who just won first place in a competition.
Yu Chuyao: …
She couldn’t help but wonder if Tang Xiaorou was some kind of Sichuan Opera heritage inheritor. How else could her face-changing technique be so proficient, basically seamless switching.
However, after agreeing, she also felt relieved, at least she wouldn’t have to worry about being remembered anymore.
Besides, she was actually looking forward to experiencing what shopping with girls after school would be like.
The last class passed very satisfyingly, many people staring at the clock hanging at the front of the classroom, witnessing the hour, minute, and second hands align. The moment the bell rang, the originally quiet campus seemed to have had a bomb thrown in, suddenly becoming turbulent.
The classroom seemed to explode like a flower, the teacher silently packed up and left, leaving only students celebrating in their own ways. Some people had already impatiently taken off their uniforms and rushed out of the classroom, as if wanting to fly directly to the school gate.
Ignoring the surrounding noise and uniforms being thrown back and forth flying around, Tang Xiaorou, who had already packed up, extended her hand to Yu Chuyao beside her.
It seemed at this moment, only the two of them were left here.
“Shall we go?” She smiled slightly, waiting quietly for the latter’s response.
