Chapter 20: A Conflict Sparked by a Lunchbox
***
In the original story, it mostly described how others were nice to Su Yingying, but the always reserved and strong female lead Su Yingying never succumbed to the temptation of benefits, maintained relationships, and worked hard to become better.
However, from the perspective of bystanders in the story, it seemed a bit white moonlight-like, after all, she was never really seen rejecting or clearly requesting not to receive the benefits given, it just appeared as if she had no choice but to accept them.
So, in these kinds of satisfying stories, when the female lead loses her protagonist’s halo, she isn’t necessarily that perfect or that good.
She dared to confront Yu Chuyao in the corridor because she was taking advantage of an information gap.
There were many people in school who knew Su Yingying, after all, the matter between Tang Xiaorou and her had been circulating in school for over 2 years. Even those who weren’t interested in such gossip must have seen them around campus more or less.
And many people still didn’t know about Tang Xiaorou’s change, it had only been one day, news couldn’t spread that fast.
So she was putting pressure on Yu Chuyao.
“Aren’t all these things Tang Xiaorou’s?” Jiang Xinxin also became emboldened and followed her words: “Don’t you remember Tang Xiaorou has always been the one bringing lunch for our Yingying?”
“Hurry up and give them to us, we’ll wash them and return them.”
Yu Chuyao was puzzled about why someone would fight over empty lunchboxes. After Jiang Xinxin finished speaking, she understood, they wanted to take them back to Tang Xiaorou, pretending they had washed them themselves, trying to get on her good side.
After all, Tang Xiaorou used to always take the initiative to give, now that Su Yingying was helping to give some feedback, shouldn’t these past two days of anger just dissipate?
It seems Tang Xiaorou’s resolute behavior had put pressure on them.
“But Tang Xiaorou didn’t bring you lunch today,” Yu Chuyao said innocently. Playing innocent was something she had naturally mastered now, and combined with her harmless appearance, it was very convincing, she didn’t look like someone who would lie at all.
Moreover, it created an image of someone being bullied into feeling wronged by forceful pressure.
Jiang Xinxin laughed out loud, thinking Yu Chuyao’s words weren’t convincing to others. The surrounding classmates indeed felt the same, losing interest after seeing the situation, thinking the lunch break bell was about to ring, and continued heading to their classrooms.
Yu Chuyao frowned, not expecting this person to be so shameless. If they really wanted to take advantage of the few people around to take the things away, she would have no way to stop them.
“So just hand them over, don’t waste time.” While Yu Chuyao was distracted, Jiang Xinxin snatched the lunchboxes.
Yu Chuyao didn’t plan to resist, because she felt she always held the advantage, and their actions in her eyes were nothing but clowning around, just a monkey show.
Having achieved her goal, Jiang Xinxin smiled smugly while seeking approval from Su Yingying beside her. The latter also calmly raised her eyebrows, her gaze towards Yu Chuyao full of the victor’s superiority.
Don’t be hasty, you’ll get what’s coming to you soon.
If Yu Chuyao’s judgment wasn’t wrong, Tang Xiaorou’s attitude towards the two wasn’t a sudden pretense of letting go to catch better, no matter how many lies they told, they wouldn’t be believed at all.
They didn’t even need to wait, just as Jiang Xinxin was about to pull Su Yingying towards the classroom, they ran into Tang Xiaorou coming their way.
Originally, she had estimated that Yu Chuyao shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to wash the lunchboxes. If there was a delay, there could only be two possibilities.
One was getting lost like last night, which she thought was unlikely, the teaching building’s range was small, just a few floors up and down, and there were even classroom nameplates.
The second was encountering someone she shouldn’t have.
This possibility was higher, so feeling uneasy, she decided to go out and take a look.
What she didn’t expect to see shocked her.
People really had no bottom line. When she approached, she witnessed the scene of Jiang Xinxin snatching the lunchboxes from behind.
However, she didn’t shout or make a scene, just calmly walked forward to see what show these two would put on for her.
“Oh, isn’t this Xiaorou?” Jiang Xinxin immediately tried to get friendly, acting like they were good sisters: “Look at these lunchboxes, Yingying and I just finished washing them for you, wanting to return them to you.”
“This little nobody doesn’t even know how to wash dishes, almost dropped them on the ground.”
Yu Chuyao was stunned, was this what it meant to be completely shameless? How could she say such things so brazenly? Didn’t she feel any embarrassment?
Tang Xiaorou also held back her urge to laugh, unable to tell for a moment whether she was talking about herself or Yu Chuyao.
How could people like them, who even tried to get others to help with their daily duties and then run away, possibly wash dishes themselves?
So she silently walked to Yu Chuyao’s side and pulled her close, pressing against her.
This action caught all three by surprise, even Yu Chuyao felt like this wasn’t something that should be done at this time, wanting to struggle a bit to be released.
But Tang Xiaorou’s movements were very quick, just slightly bending down to casually smell Yu Chuyao a few times.
This somewhat perverse behavior, especially done in such a public place, made even Yu Chuyao, who was being held, feel a bit embarrassed.
However, Tang Xiaorou didn’t care.
“Classmate Yu smells like dishwashing liquid, how could she possibly not wash them and give them to you?”
Tang Xiaorou could have just pulled Yu Chuyao away directly, but she felt that wouldn’t be satisfying enough.
She wanted to present this evidence right in front of them, slapping their faces hard, leaving them speechless.
Su Yingying and Jiang Xinxin were immediately speechless. Let alone the fact that they were lying, they couldn’t even bring themselves to smell Yu Chuyao like Tang Xiaorou did.
Therefore, whatever Tang Xiaorou said, she was in the right.
“Are you sure you want to go this far?” Su Yingying’s expression seemed calm, but her tone had become somewhat gritted teeth.
Although Tang Xiaorou had done even more embarrassing things to her before, at least it was directed at herself, and even if she didn’t accept it, it gave her a strong sense of pride.
The reason came from Tang Xiaorou herself, a beautiful young lady with such a wealthy background and good looks.
But now that these actions were directed at another person, she felt a bit complicated inside.
It was similar to when you were a child and your favorite toy was given to another child without your permission.
Having struck a blow to Su Yingying and Jiang Xinxin, Tang Xiaorou had achieved her goal. She took back the lunchboxes from their hands and headed back to the classroom with Yu Chuyao.
The two embarrassed figures stood there, their internal resentment had accumulated to a certain degree, to the extent that Su Yingying’s gaze following them had become somewhat malicious.
