Chapter 12: Taking a Sick Leave for You
***
Yu Chuyao woke up the next day feeling terrible.
Really, really terrible, like her head was about to explode kind of terrible. Both physically and mentally.
Yesterday, for some unknown reason, her nose started bleeding while she was taking a shower. She wasn’t sure if she was anemic or hemophobic, but after a moment her legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground feeling dizzy.
She hit her head directly against the bathroom wall, almost “transmigrating” again.
Fortunately, the commotion was loud enough that Mrs. Yu rushed to the bathroom and carried the nearly unconscious Yu Chuyao to her room after drying her off. Being a hospital worker, Mrs. Yu knew how to handle the situation.
However, a bump had formed where her head hit the wall, and despite enduring the pain for half a day, the delicate Yu Chuyao still couldn’t fall asleep.
Because of this, Mrs. Yu specially came to sleep with her, holding her small body in her arms and gently stroking her until Yu Chuyao finally fell asleep after who knows how long.
But early the next morning, before there was even a hint of dawn, the phone alarm woke both of them up, forcing them to hurry through washing up and getting dressed in yesterday’s clothes before rushing to school.
She really didn’t know how sensitive her body was. Although the bump from last night had subsided somewhat, the pain was still there. It wasn’t too bad if untouched, but when touched, it made Yu Chuyao, who considered herself quite pain-tolerant, struggle to keep her composure and almost brought tears to her eyes.
Her stomach was hungry;
Her head was hurting;
Her mind was empty.
Just thinking about having to run during morning exercises made her feel awful.
Because Yu Chuyao lived far from school, she had to arrive early. When she got to the classroom, there were still 5-6 minutes before morning exercises. Sitting at her desk with nothing to do, she really wanted to rest her head on the table for a brief moment, but her rational mind told her that if she did, she might “never wake up.”
At this time, Tang Xiaorou walked in carrying a bag of breakfast, her gaze immediately locking onto Yu Chuyao, whose small head was nodding like a pecking chick.
Hehe, looking at this, she probably hasn’t eaten breakfast yet, perfect.
Tang Xiaorou thought to herself, planning to give her packed breakfast to Yu Chuyao.
But just as she passed her own seat and was about to walk towards the back of the classroom, she was stopped by an annoying voice.
“Hey!” Without turning around, she could guess who it was. Besides Jiang Xinxin, who followed Su Yingying around, no one else would dare speak to her like that: “What’s wrong with you, Tang Xiaorou? Can’t you see Yingying came late today and hasn’t had breakfast? Why aren’t you bringing that breakfast over here?”
Perhaps because no one except Yu Chuyao knew about the bubble tea incident last night, and believing that Yu Chuyao, being a nobody, wouldn’t broadcast it like she did, they tried to use their classmates’ attention to make Tang Xiaorou comply.
But was Tang Xiaorou that kind of person?
Never mind that she was someone who had been reborn, even if she wasn’t, with her upbringing, academic achievements, and social standing, she would never feel intimidated by pressure from her surrounding classmates.
So, hehe, your trick won’t work.
“Go get treatment if you’re sick. Scolding you last night didn’t teach you anything, no wonder your scores aren’t even half of mine even when doubled,” Tang Xiaorou chuckled, but the mockery in her eyes and expression wasn’t hidden at all.
“You!”
“It’s okay, it’s okay, Xinxin. I’m not that hungry anyway, I can get breakfast after early self-study.” Su Yingying quickly pulled her back, preventing Jiang Xinxin from creating any more animosity.
Originally, Jiang Xinxin was a good “tool” between her and Tang Xiaorou, very capable of making Tang Xiaorou do beneficial things for her.
But now the situation was obviously different, and continuing to act as before felt like it would cause big problems.
This action appeared quite rational in some classmates’ eyes, after all, some people’s values follow their appearance. Seeing that Tang Xiaorou, the biggest obstacle, was no longer pursuing Su Yingying, they naturally became eager to try their luck.
Smart move! Tang Xiaorou gave them both a side-eye and continued walking towards Yu Chuyao’s seat with the breakfast.
Yu Chuyao, who was still secretly dozing off, didn’t know about this interlude, and had no reaction even when Tang Xiaorou put the bag on her desk.
Seeing this, Tang Xiaorou felt somewhat helpless.
Last night when she sent her home, it wasn’t even late, so why was she so tired?
Did something happen after she got home?
That shouldn’t be the case, right?
According to Tang Xiaorou’s memories from her previous life, she didn’t know much about Yu Chuyao’s parents. Her family’s conditions were truly ordinary, even ranking among the lowest in the class.
Fortunately, she heard that her parents were very gentle and would never let their child suffer despite their hardships.
But everything changed after the college entrance examination, not just Yu Chuyao’s appearance, but also some more complicated things.
Damn it, with just those few encounters at the class reunion, this was all she knew.
If she could know more, perhaps she could bring about these changes earlier.
But for now, she should wake up the little one and get her to eat breakfast.
“Wake up, Classmate Yu, it’s almost time for morning exercises.”
She knocked on Yu Chuyao’s desk, making her unwillingly grunt a couple of times.
“Mm~ I know~” Yu Chuyao still had her eyes half-closed, her arms supporting her swaying head: “Ugh… don’t want to do morning exercises.”
Morning exercises were so tiring, especially high school morning exercises with all their rules. Things like maintaining alignment front and back, left and right, keeping distance between two people no more than half a meter, no looking around or chatting, and so on.
Wasn’t the essence of morning exercises just to energize people and exercise their bodies? She really couldn’t understand what was good about this… it felt like training prisoners.
Originally thinking Yu Chuyao was just being childish, Tang Xiaorou smiled and went to pat her head, but before she could touch it, she saw the swollen area under her bangs.
“What happened here?” Tang Xiaorou asked with concern.
“Mm… fell last night.”
No wonder she was so drowsy and tired, it must be because the injury was somewhat serious and she hadn’t rested well last night. Hearing this, Tang Xiaorou felt sympathetic, and naturally wouldn’t let Yu Chuyao in this state go running.
“Wait here, I’ll go get you excused from morning exercises.”
Tang Xiaorou, standing at the door, said gently to Yu Chuyao. This was overheard by the homeroom teacher who happened to be standing at the door.
“Who’s asking to be excused from morning exercises!” Having heard someone asking to be excused from morning exercises before even entering, the homeroom teacher, who always valued class unity, was somewhat angry and wanted to “question” whoever said this.
But when she saw that the person at the door facing her was Tang Xiaorou, this thought that had just emerged was immediately suppressed.
“Ahem, ahem.” To ease the awkwardness, she coughed symbolically a couple of times.
She should have said earlier it was the class’s top student asking for leave, how could she not give face to that?
