Chapter 11: Mom Will Check For You
***
They say homecoming brings anxiety, and Tang Xiaorou felt it was true.
When she stood at the entrance of her former residential complex once again, she actually had a thought of retreating.
There was no other reason, just too afraid.
Not afraid of her parents, just afraid that everything today was a dream, and after going back to see her parents again, she would wake up and everything would be gone.
It was precisely because she had lost before that she particularly understood how to cherish.
Even if it was just to see them one more time, it would be good.
With such a mindset, Tang Xiaorou took her steps.
In her previous life, she was obsessed with pursuing Su Yingying, never turning back even after being rejected hundreds of times. Even when she did such terrible things, her parents’ attitude towards her was mostly tolerant.
Later, she even made the move to sell off their family assets, causing the two elderly to move back to their old house in the countryside for retirement.
But even with Tang Xiaorou like this, they didn’t rebuke her much, apart from helplessness and regret, they accepted their daughter’s behavior.
It seemed that as long as it was happiness that Tang Xiaorou pursued, both of them felt indifferent about it.
After awakening, Tang Xiaorou felt she really owed her parents too much. Originally, with her family’s conditions, if she had properly gone out to work later, or even started a business, there probably wouldn’t have been a situation where the family was ruined, and her parents could have enjoyed their twilight years.
But because of her immaturity, they all bore the corresponding price.
Opening the home’s front door with her fingerprint, Tang Xiaorou felt a bit dazed. In her previous life, this house had been sold for money, so she didn’t have the chance to use her fingerprint to open the door. After such a long time doing it again, it gave her an urge to cry.
But thinking that if she went in crying, her parents would worry, she still held back the urge to tear up.
“Xiaorou is back, don’t fuss.”
“Oh my, it’s not like you haven’t seen Xiaorou before, she’s all grown up now.”
As soon as she entered, she heard two voices playfully bickering, followed by the sound of people moving on the sofa. By the time Tang Xiaorou had put away her shoes, two people were already walking towards her.
With familiar features, Tang Xiaorou’s mother, who looked at least 70% similar to her, came over to take the canvas bag she was carrying and didn’t forget to smooth out her long hair that had been messed up by the wind.
Before Mrs. Tang could speak, Tang Xiaorou directly gave her a hug, tightly embracing her mother who was about the same height as her.
With her small face buried in Mrs. Tang’s hair, the warm and familiar scent instantly broke through the defense of tears she had been able to hold back.
Feeling the sobbing of the person in her arms and the wetness falling on her shoulder, Mrs. Tang became a bit panicked, quickly stroking Tang Xiaorou’s long hair, comforting her: “What’s wrong? Did someone bully you at school?”
Tang Xiaorou calmed down for a long while before stopping her tears and releasing her mother.
“No way, your daughter is the one bullying others, how could she be bullied!” Wiping her eyes, Tang Xiaorou said with a smile: “I’m just happy seeing mom today.”
“Silly girl, didn’t we just see each other this morning? We’re home every day, it’s not like we haven’t seen each other for a long time.” Mr. Tang also joked with a smile.
But for Tang Xiaorou, it really had been a long time since she had seen the elderly couple.
After using up all her savings to pave the road to happiness for Su Yingying in her previous life, feeling she had let down her parents, she didn’t have the face to see her parents in the countryside again, and didn’t see them one more time until her death.
This was also her biggest regret before her rebirth, fortunately heaven gave her another chance to make up for all her past regrets.
Although they felt their daughter was acting strange, Mr. and Mrs. Tang just thought Tang Xiaorou was too emotional, maybe she had some nightmare during her lunch break at school.
It was indeed a nightmare, except the price of this dream was too expensive.
While helping Tang Xiaorou take off the school uniform she had worn all day, Mrs. Tang went to throw it in the washing machine, and also put tomorrow’s school uniform in Tang Xiaorou’s room.
Mr. Tang sat back on the sofa, savoring his good tea leaves from who knows where.
This warm scene suddenly gave Tang Xiaorou a sense of revelation.
In many novels or films and TV shows, villainous characters with tragic pasts would flash back to various beautiful scenes when seeing familiar objects, and then be killed in revenge by the protagonist.
Many people complain about why there are so many dramatic scenes given to villains, but now when something that was truly lost appears again, how can it not move people?
After showering, Mrs. Tang was blow-drying Tang Xiaorou’s hair as she sat on the edge of the bed, while Tang Xiaorou held her phone, constantly checking something on it.
“What’s wrong? Are you still going to wait for Su Yingying tomorrow?” Mrs. Tang’s voice showed no discernible emotion, stable, speaking as if it was just some trivial matter.
This wasn’t surprising, after all, Tang Xiaorou’s situation was well-known in the entire Q City student circle, how could parents not know?
However, they weren’t the kind of old-fashioned feudal people, they didn’t plan to intervene too much in their daughter’s sexual orientation, as long as their daughter could meet her destined lifelong partner.
But Su Yingying… sigh, they really didn’t think very highly of her.
“No, I’m looking for Yu Chuyao.”
Hm? Who’s that? Mrs. Tang was somewhat surprised, even stopping the hair-drying motion in her hands. Judging by the name, it sounds like a girl, how rare? Their daughter would actually be interested in a girl other than Su Yingying?
Finally, in the class group chat, she found Yu Chuyao’s account. Unfortunately, it was only QQ, nowadays apart from gaming and entertainment, most real-life contacts still used WeChat more.
So she just tried sending a friend request, not holding much hope for it being accepted.
After all, they could see each other at school every day, was she afraid the little one would escape from her palm?
Hehe.
Tang Xiaorou grinned stupidly at her phone, making Mrs. Tang very confused, she quickly put down the hair dryer and cupped her face, examining it carefully.
“Xiaorou, you haven’t gone silly, have you?”
“What are you thinking, Mom!” Tang Xiaorou quickly broke free.
“Then why are you grinning like an idiot?” Mrs. Tang also sat down and asked earnestly: “How come today you don’t care about Su Yingying at all? Instead, you’re specifically adding this Yu Chuyao’s contact information?”
Tang Xiaorou rolled her eyes a few times, thinking that even if she told her parents about her rebirth as a dream, it would still worry them a lot. Before she completely reversed the tragedy, she better keep quiet.
This secret, she would wait until the time was right to tell those close to her.
Like Yu Chuyao, like her parents…
“Don’t worry about that!” Tang Xiaorou giggled, snuggling into Mrs. Tang’s embrace like when she was little, looking up at her: “I’ll bring Chuyao back to meet you all later, then you’ll know.”
“That’s good then, Mom will check her out for you.” Understanding her daughter’s little thoughts, Mrs. Tang also cheerfully rubbed her little face.
