Married to a Villainous Minister - Chapter 33
Yu Jiao followed Madam Zhao into the main hall. Yu Ruhai stood up and smiled as he introduced her to Yu Jinshu’s classmate. “This is our Wulang’s wife, Miss Meng. She has some medical knowledge.”
Yu Jinshu caught sight of Yu Jiao and nudged Yu Jinyan beside him, teasing, “Since when does she know medicine? And the second branch is still letting her stay in the house? Aren’t they ashamed?”
Yu Jinyan frowned slightly, lowering his gaze, clearly unwilling to look at Yu Jiao.
Mu Nianjiu, Yu Jinshu’s classmate, nodded politely. He didn’t understand why, after mentioning that his uncle was suffering from an ulcerous condition, Old Master Yu suddenly brought in a woman. Even if this woman did know medicine, could she really treat an ulcerous disease?
Yu Ruhai, a completely different person from his stern self just days ago, now spoke kindly to Yu Jiao. “This is Jinshu’s classmate. His uncle has developed ulcerous sores. Listen to his description of the symptoms and see if you can come up with a suitable remedy.”
Yu Jiao remained expressionless as she pulled up a stool and sat down. She looked directly at Mu Nianjiu and asked, “Are the sores on your uncle’s back shaped like millet seeds? How is the pain when pressed?”
“Is his tongue red and without coating, red with white coating, or pale with thin white coating? After the sores ulcerate, how is the discharge, thick or thin?”
The moment she opened her mouth, it was clear she knew what she was talking about. Her line of questioning made Mu Nianjiu’s eyes light up. He had invited many physicians for his uncle and was familiar with the condition.
He replied quickly, “My uncle’s sores are indeed millet-sized on his back, and the pain is severe. After ulcerating, the pus doesn’t drain well. My aunt often tries to squeeze the pus out for him, but the sores never scab over.”
“Instead, they swell up even more and grow more painful. He’s been suffering from this ulcerous condition for half a year now. Miss Meng, is there any way to cure it?”
Yu Jinshu put down his teacup and asked quietly, “Jinyan, does she really know medicine?”
Yu Jinyan, who had avoided looking at Yu Jiao the entire time, now raised his eyes. His gaze landed on her face, but in his mind, the image that surfaced was the lewd and shameless version of Meng Yujiao from that night.
Disgust flickered in his eyes, and he quickly looked away.
Yu Ruhai also turned to look at Yu Jiao. Ulcerous diseases were notoriously difficult to cure, often recurring and leading to other complications. Not a single doctor in town or even in the city dared claim they could treat them. He had heard of a man in a nearby village who was tormented by such sores until he finally threw himself into the river.
If Yu Jiao truly could cure it, the Yu family’s name would be known far and wide.
Yu Jiao caught the look of hope in Yu Ruhai’s eyes and gave him a meaningful smile.
Yu Ruhai hesitated, then asked, “Meng girl, if you truly have a prescription that can help, please share it. The rest we can discuss.”
Yu Jiao withdrew her gaze and said in a flat, unremarkable tone, “It can be treated, but I’ll need to see the sores in person before I can write a prescription.”
Mu Nianjiu’s expression grew excited. “Can you really cure it?”
Yu Jiao stood up and said coolly, “If you want treatment, bring your uncle here tomorrow.”
Without another word, she turned and left the main hall, heading straight back to the eastern room.
“Alright, I’ll bring my uncle over tomorrow then. I’ll trouble Miss Meng to examine and treat him!” Mu Nianjiu no longer dared to doubt her. After all, his uncle had already seen so many doctors, one more wouldn’t hurt.
And if this one could actually cure him, then it would be a blessing. His uncle would surely remember this act of filial piety.
“Jinshu, Jinyan, I’m heading home to tell my uncle the good news. I’ll be taking my leave!” Mu Nianjiu stood and bowed to Yu Ruhai. “Grandfather Yu, I’ll bring my uncle by tomorrow. Sorry for the disturbance and the trouble!”
