Ye Fangfei’s eyes narrowed.
“Eat it, then. But it’s so hot—you’ve been out all morning. How can your body take it? Don’t overwork yourself for a few yuan and end up ruining your health. You’ll regret it later.”

Ye Sanhu saw his sister was angry, so he reluctantly ate the ice cream.

Soon, workers began streaming out of the factory.

Ye Fangfei shouted, “Comrades, come take a look! Sweet and refreshing popsicles—red bean, mung bean, orange flavor, and milk ice cream! On a scorching summer day, just one bite of these cold treats will cool you right down…”

Sanhu stared at his little sister in shock. Who taught her to shout like that? She was even better at calling out than Xihu.

“How much for the milk ice cream?”

“Ten cents.”

“I’ll take two.”

“Sure! Here you go. Thanks for supporting our business, and we welcome you again tomorrow!”

The man laughed heartily.
“You’ve got quite the gift of gab, little comrade.”

“Thank you for the compliment,” Fangfei replied politely.

Seeing her brother staring blankly at her, she tapped him.
“Come on, collect the money!”

“Oh… oh… okay… okay…” Sanhu scrambled, counting money and giving change, while Fangfei handed out the ice cream.

Working together, one collecting money and one serving ice cream, the siblings moved efficiently. By the time the factory workers had mostly left, over half of the popsicles were sold.

Fangfei wrapped the unsold ice cream in a blanket and covered the boxes.
“Sanhu, where to next?”

Sanhu pointed to a factory behind them.
“I’m heading to the glass factory. Little sister, why don’t you go help Big Brother and Big Sister? They’re at the south gate of the electromechanical factory. It’s their first day, and they don’t have much experience. You talk well, so teach them a bit.”

“What about Second Brother?”

“He and Xihu went to the experimental school.”

Pushing her bicycle toward the electromechanical factory, Fangfei replied,
“Okay, I’ll find Big Brother and Big Sister first. Later we’ll meet at the supply and marketing cooperative.”

“Ride slowly, they’re at the south gate,” Sanhu called after her.

“Got it!”

By the time she arrived, the factory’s end-of-shift bell had just rung.

Ye Dahuo and Zhang Meiling were already there, being driven away by a man in uniform—probably from the factory’s security department.

The couple were simple, honest villagers. Zhang Meiling could speak a little, but today was their first time selling ice cream, and they were inexperienced.

The security man told them they couldn’t sell here, and Zhang Meiling didn’t dare argue.

As they were about to leave, Fangfei rode up on her bicycle.

“Little sister? What are you doing here?” Dahuo asked, surprised.

Fangfei got off her bike.
“Sanhu told me you and Big Sister were here. I came to check on you.”

She greeted her brother and sister-in-law politely, then nodded to the man in uniform.

Zhang Meiling whispered,
“He doesn’t want us to sell here. Says it affects the factory’s image.”

Fangfei glanced around. Though they were near the south gate, how could selling ice cream hurt the factory’s image? It wasn’t like they were doing anything shameful. This man was just nitpicking.

But today they were here to make a living. She couldn’t waste time arguing—she had to sell the ice cream before it melted.

Fangfei walked up to the stern man, smiling.
“Hello, comrade. Thank you for your hard work.”

He sized her up and asked sternly,
“What is it?”

Fangfei kept smiling.
“Comrade, these two are my brother and sister-in-law. With a large family, life’s tough, so they’re following the national call to come sell a little in the city.”

“They’re new to selling ice cream, so please don’t take it personally. I’ll have them move a little to the side. The electromechanical factory is one of the most important in the city, and we absolutely don’t want to interfere with its image.”

Seeing her polite demeanor, the man’s expression softened, but he still didn’t allow them to set up there.

Fangfei noticed workers still coming out and pointed a little to the side.
“Comrade, could we move the cart there?”

She cupped her hands politely.
“Comrade, please allow it.”

The man, trying not to laugh at her mischievous charm, waved his hand.
“Move it quickly. Don’t block the entrance.”

“Thank you, comrade. We won’t bother you again.”

Hearing this, Dahuo and Zhang Meiling pushed the cart to the designated spot.

The new spot was a bit farther from the gate. Fangfei waved to attract attention.
“Comrades, ice cream! Red bean, mung bean, orange, cold popsicles… refreshing and sweet, perfect for the hot weather!”

Her unique calling drew a crowd in no time. A few curious onlookers, seeing how delicious the ice cream looked, couldn’t resist buying one.

The couple, inexperienced, fumbled, handing out the wrong ice cream or giving the wrong change.

Seeing Zhang Meiling’s hands shake, Fangfei took her tattered bag for money, letting them serve the ice cream while she handled payments and change.

Her eyes scanned the area as she shouted and collected money. With her help, efficiency soared. In about ten minutes, the box was nearly empty.

Dahuo and Zhang Meiling grinned as they saw only a few ice creams and popsicles left.

Fangfei walked a few steps toward the gatehouse. Seeing three men on duty, she took three ice creams and popsicles, giving Zhang Meiling a look.
“Big Sister, let’s give these to the security guys.”

Zhang Meiling had seen Fangfei grow up, from a shy little girl to now a capable young woman.

At the gatehouse, the men noticed them. The man who had driven them away opened the window.
“What’s this about?” he asked, now more polite.

“We’re leaving now. Sorry for the trouble,” Fangfei said, handing over the ice cream with a smile.
“Some popsicles are left. If you don’t mind, enjoy them to cool down.”

“No, no. We have water here. Go sell them, or take them home for the kids,” he waved them off.

The other two men didn’t speak.

Fangfei knew the first man was likely the security chief. The others obeyed him.

Zhang Meiling pushed the remaining popsicles onto the table.
“The workers are gone. It’s too hot for these to melt. Please help us eat them,” she said with a smile.

Without waiting for them to decline further, Fangfei nodded and led Zhang Meiling away.
