Chapter 74: This Is the Lu Family’s Power
The door to the Sui Corporation CEO’s office was violently pushed open. The security guards watched in panic as a group of men in black suits entered.
“Miss Sui, we’re sorry—we couldn’t stop them.”
Sui Xiying was sitting in her executive chair reviewing a contract when she heard the commotion. She looked up and saw Lu Zhijin’s frosty expression. After a momentary pause, she quickly regained her composure, stood up, and approached him respectfully.
“Young Master Lu, you should have informed me in advance of your visit.”
As she spoke, Sui Xiying signaled her secretary with a glance to prepare tea.
Ignoring her, Lu Zhijin strode directly past her and took a seat on the sofa, assuming the role of host.
“It seems I underestimated you, Miss Sui. Anyone capable of taking the helm of the Sui Family couldn’t possibly be simple.”
“What do you mean by that, Young Master Lu?”
Sui Xiying’s expression stiffened, a sense of foreboding creeping into her heart.
“You’re a smart woman, Miss Sui. Let’s not beat around the bush—I’ll be brief.”
Lu Zhijin lifted his eyelids, his gaze cold and detached as he spoke through thin lips.
“The equestrian club.”
Sui Xiying’s smile froze on her face, but she quickly recovered and naturally took a seat opposite him, maintaining an elegant demeanor.
“I heard that Young Master Lu Yike had a scare at the Royal Equestrian Club the other day. I haven’t had the chance to send my regards yet, but why are you bringing this up now?”
A bodyguard stepped forward, pulled out a phone, and played a recording—the testimony of the man from the warehouse, who gruffly uttered Sui Xiying’s name.
“I never knew you had such intentions, Miss Sui.”
Lu Zhijin’s tone carried a chilling undertone as he leaned back on the sofa, his sharp eyes fixed on the woman across from him.
“You’d believe the slander of a stranger over our long-standing partnership, Young Master Lu?”
Sui Xiying tilted her head, meeting his gaze calmly, her fingers interlaced and her thumb unconsciously digging into her palm.
“If I weren’t certain, why would I come to see you, Miss Sui?”
Lu Zhijin stared intently at her, his tone unwavering. “Old Sui has disappeared, hasn’t he?”
Sui Xiying’s face instantly hardened, her smile turning strained, her fingernails digging deeper into her flesh.
After the last family banquet, Sui Xiying had secretly increased Old Sui’s medication dosage, eventually reducing him to a bedridden invalid under Bai Fan’s care—the man she had contracted into a marriage with.
But about a month ago, both Old Sui and Bai Fan had suddenly vanished. Only then did Sui Xiying realize she had been deceived—Bai Fan had likely been bribed by Old Sui again!
She tracked down Old Sui’s lawyer and, through coercion and persuasion, discovered that Old Sui had foolishly decided to leave the Sui Family’s assets to Lu Yike!
After all she had done for the Sui Family, sacrificing everything, she was still deemed less worthy than a child raised in another household!
“This is a private matter of the Sui Family and not something I can disclose. As for the rest—”
Sui Xiying brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, forcing a defiant expression and avoiding his gaze.
“Without evidence, you shouldn’t make baseless accusations, Young Master Lu.”
“I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood, Miss Sui.”
Lu Zhijin let out a light laugh, his eyes filled with contempt. He stood up, looking down at the stubborn woman, and enunciated each word clearly:
“Since when does Lu Zhijin need evidence to deal with someone?”
Sui Xiying swallowed hard, her body rigid and her face pale. She managed a strained smile.
“Then let’s see what you’re capable of, Young Master Lu.”
Lu Zhijin strode out of the office, while employees outside craned their necks curiously, wondering what had transpired.
No sooner had Lu Zhijin left than the phone in Sui Xiying’s office rang. Prompted by her secretary, Sui Xiying stumbled forward, her hands trembling slightly.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Ms. Sui. This is China CITIC Bank. We regret to inform you that due to internal adjustments, we are unable to approve your loan application at this time. Our apologies for any inconvenience.”
“What? Why can’t you lend to me? Hello? Hello?!”
Before she could get a response, the other end hung up. Immediately, her cellphone began buzzing incessantly with incoming calls.
“Sorry, Ms. Sui, but the cooperation we discussed recently might not proceed after all. My apologies.”
“Ms. Sui, we’ve found a new supplier, so let’s put our collaboration on hold for now.”
“Sui Xiying! The goods you promised us are all defective! Get ready to pay the penalty!”
“…”
“Ms. Sui, we have a notification from the Nan Guan New District mall.”
The secretary stood awkwardly at the door, hesitating to speak.
“All shares have been acquired by Young Master Lu. We’re no longer the majority shareholder.”
Outside, the workspace suddenly erupted into chaos. Everyone looked panicked, fielding calls—all of them about canceled collaborations or penalty payments.
Sui Xiying remained silent, bracing herself against the desk to stay upright. A bitter smile twisted her lips.
Hah!
Lu Zhijin!
So this is the power of the Lu family? Bankrupt in under a minute!
A sharp pain gripped her abdomen, followed by a warm flow between her legs. Blood trickled down her calves. Her vision blurred, and her body went limp as she collapsed unconscious.
“Ms. Sui—”
——————
“A Jin.”
The moment Lu Zhijin stepped through his front door, his icy, murderous aura still lingering, Song Shimu approached in her pajamas. Instantly, his expression softened into tenderness as he scooped her up into his arms.
“Why didn’t you put on more clothing?”
The weather had turned chilly, and his delicate wife always felt cold—it took him holding her all night to warm her up.
“It’s fine. Is everything settled?”
Song Shimu never imagined that Sui Xiying—usually so polished and socially adept—could be so vicious, harming a child for profit.
“Don’t worry. I won’t let her off easily.”
But Song Shimu knew Lu Zhijin’s methods weren’t entirely aboveboard. Given Sui Xiying’s capabilities, it was only a matter of time before she bounced back.
Without concrete evidence against her—Sui Xiying was too cunning—a single ex-convict’s testimony wasn’t enough to nail her.
“By the way, Uncle suddenly called today. He wants us to visit him tomorrow.”
Shen Tangyu?
Lu Zhijin frowned slightly. Why would he contact them out of the blue?
The next day, Lu Yike clung to Little Prince, pestering persistently.
“Really, I can’t come? I miss Great-Uncle too!”
“Mom and Dad need to discuss something with Great-Uncle today. We’ll take you next time.”
Song Shimu crouched down to comfort the little one, who had been thrilled ever since hearing about visiting Shen Tangyu the night before.
“Okay… Great-Uncle promised last time he’d bring me a car model.”
“Lu Yike, haven’t I bought you enough already?”
Lu Zhijin was fuming with anger. Why did this little brat always act so coquettishly with others?!
“Because Uncle is so elegant, and I really like him! You just look so fierce!”
Lu Yike stuck out his tongue and quickly ran upstairs, leaving Lu Zhijin alone to sulk. After a few steps, he turned back and sweetly tried to appease him.
“But Ke Ke still likes Daddy the most!”
Song Shimu laughed at the father and son bickering like elementary school students, and squeezed Lu Zhijin’s hand to comfort the big child.
“Alright, let’s go quickly. Uncle is still waiting for us.”
“Why did he suddenly call us over? And he told us not to bring Lu Yike.” Lu Zhijin frowned.
“I don’t know, but Uncle would never harm us. He just said he has a gift for us, and we’ll definitely like it when we see it.”
