Chapter 73: The Lu Family’s Jade-faced Yama

Song Shimu took Lu Yike to the hospital for a full check-up and only felt relieved after confirming there were no serious issues. The doctor said it was just shock and recommended simple rest.

Lu Yike took two days off, during which Song Shimu stayed with him constantly, worried that such a young child might develop psychological trauma. Fortunately, Lu Yike was naturally optimistic and didn’t become overly fearful. His mood remained quite good these past two days.

Meanwhile, Lu Zhijin had people tracking the matter continuously. The equestrian club acted with high efficiency—after all, who would want to offend the Lu family?

The investigation revealed that an extra needle had been inserted into the little pony Lu Yike was riding, which appeared to be the cause of the horse’s panic.

However, how the needle was shot into the horse and who was responsible required further investigation.

That evening, Song Shimu coaxed Lu Yike to sleep. Though the little one didn’t say anything outwardly, he had clearly been frightened, clutching tightly to Song Shimu’s sleeve even in his sleep, his brows furrowed restlessly.

After putting Lu Yike to bed, Song Shimu went to the study. Her expression was serious as she saw Lu Zhijin still handling matters. She walked behind him and began gently massaging his shoulders with her soft hands.

“This must be someone targeting the Lu family.”

“Don’t worry, I will get to the bottom of this.”

Lu Zhijin patted Song Shimu’s hand and pulled her onto his lap. His eyes gleamed with ferocity.

“Anyone who dares touch what belongs to me, Lu Zhijin, must have a death wish!”

After the initial fear, Song Shimu now felt mostly anger. She knew wealthy families often dealt with dirty schemes, but she never imagined someone would target such a young child!

Her gaze fell upon the camera on the corner of the desk. After a moment’s thought, she picked it up to review the footage from the equestrian club that day.

Lu Yike had appeared in his handsome riding outfit, his small chest puffed out with pride. Moli had been gentle and obedient too—everything seemed fine initially.

But suddenly Moli grew panicked, kicking wildly with all four legs. Song Shimu frowned deeply, rewound that segment of footage, and watched it repeatedly in slow motion until she finally spotted the clue.

“A Jin, look here!”

In the video, while Lu Yike was still performing well on Moli, a suspicious man wearing a cap appeared in the opposite spectator stands. He secretly pulled out a gun-like tool from his pocket and fired it toward Lu Yike’s direction.

In slow motion, they could see an extremely thin needle shooting from his hand, landing precisely on Moli—causing the little pony to panic in fright!

Lu Zhijin’s face turned stony, his entire presence radiating cold intensity as frost seemed to gather in his eyes. He immediately sent the footage to Chen Sheng and the equestrian club manager, demanding a thorough investigation of this man.

Chen Sheng worked quickly and soon identified the man’s information.

He was an unemployed drifter with prior criminal records, now spending his days idle without any notable social connections.

How could someone like him gain access to the equestrian club? And how could he possibly be connected to the Lu family?

The club manager’s investigation revealed the man had entered by impersonating another member. During the anniversary celebration when the crowd was large, security had been lax—seeing his invitation, they simply let him in.

Late that night.

Lu Zhijin drove to a warehouse in the suburbs.

The warehouse was dimly lit, surrounded by bodyguards in black suits standing ready. When they saw the familiar vehicle approach, the lead man perceptively opened the car door for Lu Zhijin.

“Young Master Lu, the person is inside.”

In the vast warehouse, a shabbily dressed man knelt on the ground with his hands tied behind his back, a black cloth blindfolding his eyes. Hearing footsteps, he shuddered and strained to listen to his surroundings, his voice trembling with fear.

“Who’s there? Who are you people? What do you want?”

Lu Zhijin strode calmly to stand before him, then leisurely settled into a chair, crossing his legs. His well-defined fingers rested on his knees.

The lead black-clad man roughly tore off the blindfold. Blinded by the sudden light, the man flinched and slowly opened his eyes.

The first thing he saw was a pair of expensive black handmade leather shoes. His gaze traveled upward along the perfectly tailored suit trousers to meet a face carved with cold elegance, then plunged into eyes deep like bottomless pools.

The man jolted in terror. The figure looming over him examined him with a gaze like the Jade-faced Yama, ready to judge evil spirits bound for hell.

“Do you know who I am?”

A low, icy voice sounded from above. The man swallowed nervously, then shook his head frantically.

“No, I don’t! You must have the wrong person!”

“If you don’t know me, why did you target my family?”

The deliberately measured tone was like a slow knife slicing through fish on a cutting board—and torturing the man’s nerves. Now he realized who stood before him!

The man’s eyes darted around, avoiding that cold, merciless stare as he desperately scrambled for excuses.

“What are you talking about? I don’t know! I don’t understand!”

He began feigning madness. A tablet was thrown before him, displaying clear footage of him firing a needle-loaded gun, causing the little pony to grow restless and agitated.

Cold sweat dripped from the man’s forehead. His pupils trembled, his face turned ashen, and his lips quivered as he stubbornly insisted, “I was just fooling around! I never expected this to happen!”

“Never expected?”

Lu Zhijin’s voice was languid, carrying the smug confidence of one who held all the cards. He gently pressed the tip of his shoe against the man’s shoulder, his tone sinister.

“Tell me who sent you, and I might spare your life. Otherwise—”

The unspoken threat hung in the air, sending chills down the spine.

The man licked his lips, gasping in terror, his chest heaving heavily. Blind to the consequences, he stubbornly clung to his lie. “I don’t know what you’re talking about! I just got a toy that day and wanted to try it out! I’m not lying… Ah—”

Before he could finish his excuse, the bodyguard behind him—acting on Lu Zhijin’s signal—stepped forward expressionlessly and stomped hard on the man’s ankle.

These bodyguards were former special forces soldiers who had survived perilous rescue missions, their bearing sharp and lethal, their physiques hardened.

This was no playful kick. The man’s ankle bone fractured instantly. He collapsed to the ground, panting heavily, his forehead beaded with sweat.

“I didn’t… I really didn’t…”

“Ah—”

The bodyguard’s expression remained unchanged as he crushed the man’s other ankle. His black leather shoe ground mercilessly into the fragile joint, his eyes devoid of emotion as he listened to the man’s agonized screams.

“Ready to talk now?”

Lu Zhijin bent down, propping his elbows on his knees. His narrow eyes held no warmth as they fixed on the man beneath his feet.

“I really don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The man’s breathing was faint, yet he stubbornly refused to talk. The bodyguard moved forward to sever his tendons, but Lu Zhijin raised a hand to stop him, taking the knife from the bodyguard’s grasp.

“It seems they paid you quite well.”

His tone was leisurely as he calmly examined the sharp dagger in his hand. The man’s head was violently yanked up by the hair by the bodyguard, revealing a face covered in grime.

The man’s pupils dilated in horror as he watched Lu Zhijin press the cold blade against his cheek. The man before him seemed like a reincarnated demon, completely indifferent to the lives of insignificant ants.

“In that case, this tongue has no use anymore.”

Terrified, the man’s eyes widened. The next second, the bodyguard’s powerful hand clamped down on his jaw. With a “crack,” his jaw was dislocated, leaving his mouth hanging uselessly open. His eyes bulged in pain, bloodshot veins covering them.

The bodyguard, wearing black gloves, roughly pulled out his tongue. He now resembled a long-tongued ghost coming to claim a life.

Finally frightened into submission, the man wept fearful tears, making his dust-covered face even filthier. He mumbled incoherently, shaking his head.

Lu Zhijin gave a signal with his eyes, and the bodyguard swiftly reset his jaw. The man trembled all over, his clothes soaked with sweat.

“I’ll talk, I’ll talk…”

“It was the Sui Family who found me. They promised me five million afterward.”

“!”

Lu Zhijin’s eyes instantly turned icy cold.
