Chapter 56: Who Exactly Is Causing Trouble?

When Lu Zhijin woke up in the morning, his body ached all over. Having spent an uncomfortable night on the couch without his sweet, soft wife in his arms, it had been truly unbearable.

The moment he opened his eyes, he met a pair of darting black pupils, instantly startling him awake.

“Lu Yike, what’s wrong with you this early in the morning!”

Lu Yike was squatting beside the sofa, cheeks propped in his hands, his face full of resentment. His eyes were wide open as he glared angrily at the man who had returned home late last night.

“How dare you come back, you big scumbag!”

Lu Zhijin rubbed his temples, propped his legs on the sofa and sat up, having no time to bicker with this little ancestor.

“Is Mom awake?”

“Not yet, so I suggest you think carefully about how to explain this to Mom. Otherwise, I’ll never forgive you again!” Lu Yike put on a stern little face, seriously lecturing this troublesome man.

Lu Zhijin wondered, were their family rules this strict? Just coming home a few hours late, and the situation had already escalated to this level?

There were several missed calls from Chen Sheng on his phone. After washing up, Lu Zhijin went to the kitchen to heat milk for Song Shimu and Lu Yike, casually returning the call.

“Hello, Young Master Lu, we have a minor issue.”

Chen Sheng’s tone was calm and concise.

He was steady by nature, highly intelligent with tough methods, having worked for the Lu family for many years. Lu Zhijin trusted him deeply. After prolonged contact, their personalities had grown similar, with Chen Sheng gradually becoming cold-faced and taciturn.

As Lu Zhijin listened to Chen Sheng’s report, his eyebrows furrowed tighter, the atmosphere around him growing heavy. After hanging up, Lu Zhijin clicked on the news link Chen Sheng had sent him, a storm brewing in his eyes.

So, was this why Song Shimu was angry last night? He had been completely unaware and had let the problem fester, making Song Shimu swallow her anger all night?

Lu Zhijin clenched his jaw, his eyes filled with bloodthirsty fury and self-reproach.

With a “ding,” the microwave finished heating the milk. Lu Zhijin carried it upstairs. The bedroom door was slightly ajar, and Song Shimu was lying on her side facing away from the door, apparently already awake.

Lu Yike hurriedly brought a keyboard from the study and threw it at Lu Zhijin’s feet. Then, with an indignant and proud expression, he sat by the bed with his arms crossed, championing his mother’s cause.

“Kneel and explain.”

To Lu Yike’s surprise, Lu Zhijin actually knelt on the keyboard!

Lu Zhijin looked seriously and sincerely at the figure on the bed.

“Mu Mu, I’m sorry. I just found out what happened last night, but I truly haven’t done anything to betray you. My heart belongs only to you.”

He explained the events of the previous night in detail with rigorous logic.

“Last night, I was having dinner with comrades I hadn’t seen in a long time, not with that woman. I don’t even know her.

When we left, she was following behind me. I didn’t pay much attention, but at the entrance, she suddenly approached. I instinctively used a grappling move, and after confirming she wasn’t a threat, I let her go.”

“I didn’t realize the paparazzi’s angle made it look so intimate, but it was absolutely not as it appeared in the picture, and certainly not as the netizens speculated.”

“Because it was my misunderstanding, I twisted her arm. She insisted it was broken and demanded to go to the hospital. I had no choice but to accompany her. After the examination confirmed she was fine, I came home.”

“This is exactly what happened last night, I’m really not lying to you! Ever since you came into my life, I haven’t been able to look at any other woman.”

Lu Zhijin felt wronged too – he didn’t even know that Wanwan woman. He thought she was attacking him, so he used a restraining hold. How did it turn into some “love waltz”? And now it’s spiraled into this messy drama!

“Then why did that woman answer when I called you last night?”

Realizing his father hadn’t actually cheated, Lu Yike felt somewhat relieved, but he wasn’t going to forgive this big bad guy so easily. He needed to teach him a proper lesson on behalf of his mother – how dare he make her sad!

“You called?”

Lu Zhijin frowned in thought. “That woman said her phone died yesterday and needed to contact her assistant, so she used my phone. Was that when it happened? I was probably paying the bill at that time.”

“I see—”

Lu Yike deliberately drew out his words while sneaking a glance behind him.

“Even if you might be innocent, you still made Mom sad, and that’s a serious crime! You have no idea what people are saying about Mom online!”

“Don’t worry, I’ll handle all of that. I’ll deal with everyone spreading rumors too. Mu Mu, please believe me and forgive me this once, okay?”

Lu Zhijin looked urgently at the woman on the bed, his eyes pleading. He couldn’t bear to see hurt and disappointment in Song Shimu’s eyes – he wanted to give her complete love and security.

“Mom, what punishment do you think Dad deserves?”

Lu Yike asked like a little sycophant, leaning close to Song Shimu.

“We’ll talk after you’ve handled everything.”

Song Shimu’s muffled voice came from under the blankets.

After a night of fermentation online, the internet had raised its banner against Song Shimu. Led by marketing accounts, everyone was weeping over this so-called tragic love story, with “Feeling sorry for Qiu Wanwan” trending everywhere.

Qiu Wanwan’s side hadn’t issued any statement, which only confirmed netizens’ suspicions. Self-proclaimed justice warriors were tearing Song Shimu to pieces online.

When Song Shimu checked her phone in the morning, she nearly died of anger. Believing Lu Zhijin was one thing, but being furious was another!

Even Sun Jiayi had asked during work breaks if their marriage was falling apart, saying Lu Zhijin was indeed no match for Andy Lau, and offering to take leave to beat up the scumbag and the other woman.

After being reassured that everything was fine, Sun Jiayi went back to directing patients to remove their pants while simultaneously arguing with netizens online.

Finally getting a response from Song Shimu, a glimmer of hope appeared in Lu Zhijin’s eyes as he raised his fingers to swear.

“Darling, please believe me – I would never do anything to betray you. You’re the one I love most! I’ll definitely give you a satisfactory resolution to this matter!”

When Chen Sheng arrived at the villa, he discussed the handling of this matter with Lu Zhijin in the study.

Chen Sheng suggested this probably wasn’t random – with such strong reactions and rapid spread, it was likely premeditated and organized.

This incident had become breaking news. With Lu Zhijin’s influence combined with the popularity flow star, all circles were waiting to watch the drama unfold. Ms. Su Yunrong had called too – the moment the call connected, she launched into furious scolding, with Old Lu’s thunderous roars occasionally audible in the background.

“Lu Zhijin, have you grown bold? Learned to create tabloid scandals now? Is this how I raised you since childhood? Has Mu Mu been too heartbroken to even eat? I’m telling you, divorce, you must get divorced immediately! Don’t even think about getting a single cent of the family assets – they all belong to Mu Mu! And you can sever mother-son relations with me too!”

Lu Zhijin felt utterly overwhelmed. Since morning, numerous family members had been questioning him in the family group chat, all accusing him of wronging Song Shimu.

“Investigate this thoroughly! Find the mastermind behind this and punish them severely without exception!”

Sitting in his chair, Lu Zhijin radiated an oppressive aura that seemed capable of suffocating anyone nearby. His sinister gaze remained fixed on the continuously updating marketing accounts on his computer screen, the veins on the back of his hand protruding as he gripped the armrests.

He was determined to find out – just who was so reckless? Who dared to cause trouble for him, Lu Zhijin?
