Chapter 24: Successful Confession Leads to Calling Him Husband

Yunxiao seems quite interested in Maria.

Song Shimu thought about the scene she had just witnessed while sitting in the car. The aloof Yunxiao had approached Maria, sniffing her fur, and when discovered, pridefully turned his head away.

Just like his owner, pursuing someone, Lu Zhijin said seriously while driving, though his words were pure nonsense.

They had left in the afternoon and spent some time at the equestrian club. As dusk fell, it was perfect timing for dinner.

Lu Zhijin had reserved the Cloud Top Restaurant, located atop the city’s tallest tower. With its elegant ambiance and excellent views, they could overlook the entire city’s nightscape.

Staff escorted them to the private room Lu Zhijin had reserved. Known for its high prices and exquisite decor, the restaurant featured five private rooms in addition to its open dining area, all requiring advance reservations.

The private room was spacious, adorned with fresh-colored blossoms that made one feel as if they had stepped into Alice’s wonderland. Soft European-style carpet covered the floor, and at the center stood a minimalist beige marble table with intricately patterned legs, exuding classic elegance. Before them, a massive floor-to-ceiling window offered a view of the city’s bustling traffic and vibrant nightlife.

Staff in dress shirts and trousers quietly served exquisite dishes before discreetly withdrawing, while melodious music flowed gently through the room.

Lu Zhijin gallantly pulled out a chair for Song Shimu, then poured the aerated red wine into their glasses. The crimson liquid swirled in the glasses, tracing elegant curves.

When Lu Zhijin took the steak from before Song Shimu, she rested her chin on her hand and watched the man across from her. His slender, attractive fingers held the knife and fork as he meticulously cut the beef into evenly sized pieces before returning the plate to her.

Try it. Their flavors are quite good.

Song Shimu took a bite—the meat was juicy with a rich, aromatic taste, truly an exceptional culinary experience. She never doubted Lu Zhijin’s choices.

Picking up her wine glass, her lips curved into a lovely smile. With relaxed brows and a dazzling expression, she gazed at the handsome man before her.

In that moment, Lu Zhijin was utterly captivated. Amidst the room full of flowers, Song Shimu was the most beautiful blossom—like an enchanting siren who outshone all others, making the colorful flowers around her instantly pale in comparison.

Thank you for today’s arrangements, Mr. Lu. I’m very happy.

Lu Zhijin raised an eyebrow and clinked glasses with her, smiling. As long as you’re happy, everything is worth it.

The meal was delightful. Through their time together, Lu Zhijin had come to understand Song Shimu’s preferences and had selected all her favorite dishes.

After dinner, Lu Zhijin led Song Shimu by the hand to the sofa on the other side of the room. It was an imported Italian leather sofa draped with soft blankets, surrounded by floral arrangements. A small coffee table before it held scented candles and red wine.

As Song Shimu leaned back, she exclaimed in surprise, Wow!

Beyond the floor-to-ceiling window before them, the ceiling was designed as a starlight skylight, clearly revealing the night sky over the city. Silver moonlight illuminated the vast Milky Way, with scattered stars resembling shattered gold dust scattered across a jade plate, twinkling with delicate light.

Song Shimu hadn’t properly gazed at the night sky in a long time. Just two days ago, she had been reading books about stars in the study. She casually mentioned how she often used to lie in the park with her father as a child, counting stars. She never expected this small remark to be remembered by Lu Zhijin, who fulfilled her anticipation today, helping her experience the romance of the universe.

Do you like it?

Lu Zhijin sat beside Song Shimu, watching the bright light shimmering in the woman’s beautiful eyes. Not a single star could compare to the beauty of the person reflected in his gaze.

I love it! Thank you, A Jin.

Half-lying on the sofa, Song Shimu excitedly pointed out constellations to him.

That bright one is Vega!

Over there is Ursa Minor.

…

Lu Zhijin listened attentively to her explanations, his gaze gradually shifting to Song Shimu’s face. Her fair cheeks showed almost no visible pores, her lashes were thick and curled, her eyes brimmed with happiness, her delicate nose was exquisitely pretty, and her red lips moved continuously as she chattered away, sharing her joy.

From somewhere, Lu Zhijin produced a bouquet of vibrant roses. Suddenly kneeling on one knee before the astonished young woman, he spoke with solemn sincerity and deep affection.

Mu Mu, I’ve actually been preparing for this day for a long time. Every detail was carefully planned, hoping each moment would bring you happiness.

My life has always been smooth sailing, and I’ve never liked anyone else. My first flutter of heart was because of you, so I want to give you all the wonderful things, fearing only that you might not feel my sincerity.

I think I’m truly captivated. Besides you, there’s no room for anyone else in my eyes. Every day I wonder what you’re doing, what you’ve eaten, whether you’re happy.

I really cherish this sweet burden. I will always keep you happy. Would you be willing to be my girlfriend?

The Jade-faced Yama, Army Colonel Lu Zhijin who had served on the frontlines and fought criminals, actually felt nervous at this moment. He pulled out a red velvet box from his pocket, opening it to reveal a sparkling diamond ring.

A massive Oppenheimer Blue diamond was set in the center of the platinum ring, crystal clear with perfect color purity. The band was adorned with transparent pavé diamonds, resembling the starry night sky. Inside the ring were engraved the initials of both their names.

Last time was rather rushed, and the ring was chosen hastily. This one I had someone acquire from the Cullinan mine in South Africa, then commissioned a specialized designer. I hope you’ll like it.

Song Shimu’s heart raced wildly. Covering her mouth in surprise, her beautiful eyes fixed on the man kneeling before her. At this moment, his expression was earnest, his narrow eyes overflowing with deep emotion.

Time passed second by second. In the quiet private room, only soft background music could be heard. Lu Zhijin didn’t rush her, holding the ring while waiting silently.

Song Shimu swallowed nervously, then slowly extended her pale, delicate hand, her tone coy and teasing.

We’re already married! Why are you asking me to be your girlfriend?

Lu Zhijin’s eyes instantly lit up, happily exclaiming, Wife!

The best decision he’d ever made in his life was marrying Song Shimu!

Lu Zhijin carefully slipped the ring onto the ring finger of Song Shimu’s left hand, then bowed his head to reverently kiss her knuckles.

Overjoyed, Song Shimu gazed at the glittering token of love on her finger. She leaned forward, grasping Lu Zhijin’s shirt collar with both hands, and kissed him firmly. Then resting her forehead against his, she whispered tenderly.

Then should I call you husband now?

Lu Zhijin’s heartbeat skipped at the word husband, his expression instantly turning solemn. He wrapped his arm around the other’s waist, his voice husky and sensual as he said, Say it once for me to hear.

Husband~

Song Shimu called out softly without any affectation, like a little kitten scratching at Lu Zhijin’s heart, instantly melting it into a puddle. He wished he could drown forever in Song Shimu’s gentle waters.

Lu Zhijin pressed the person down onto the sofa, lowering his head to fiercely kiss those full, tender lips. He savored them carefully, slowly sucking, finally having a legitimate identity to kiss these lips he had constantly yearned for.
