Chapter 137: Zhai Moyu & Sun Jiayi (10)

Sun Jiayi sat expressionlessly on the sofa, too angry to speak, gazing at the deepening night outside the window.

Zhai Moyu cautiously knelt before her like a little wolfdog begging for its owner’s attention.

You saw Wang Yiran come today? Seeing Sun Jiayi remained unresponsive, Zhai Moyu had no choice but to continue explaining.

I actually came to find you today. I don’t know where Wang Yiran came from either. I pushed her away and made things clear to her. She definitely won’t appear before us again!

Jiayi, my heart only has room for you—there’s no space for anyone else. I know everything that’s happened recently must have made you feel wronged.

You can hit me or scold me, but don’t keep it bottled up inside. You can continue testing me for as long as you want, but please don’t say we’re breaking up. I can’t live without you.

Zhai Moyu hugged Sun Jiayi’s legs, resting his head on her smooth, fair thighs. Tears welled in his puppy-dog eyes, moved by emotion, his heart fearful that Sun Jiayi might truly abandon him.

Sun Jiayi’s heart trembled, feeling the teardrops fall on her thighs. Her heart swelled with a sour, aching sensation.

She didn’t know what to do. Should she believe him? Yet some hesitation remained in her heart.

Wiping away his tears, Zhai Moyu stood up, his gaze profound and affectionate. His large hand gently caressed Sun Jiayi’s cheek as he spoke with sincere determination.

I came specifically to clarify everything—to tell you that my heart hasn’t changed, and I’m not playing with your feelings. The one I love is you, Sun Jiayi.

You must be holding in a lot of anger, and I deserve it for not handling things properly. You can torment me however you want, but don’t hurt yourself.

I’ll prove my love to you, and I’ll definitely make you believe in me.

Zhai Moyu quietly retreated and squatted by the doorway, repairing his wife’s door…

His good brother Lu Zhijin, knowing about his recent romantic troubles, sent him mocking condolences and scheduled a day to KO him, claiming it was his wife’s request.

Several days passed without Zhai Moyu visiting. Sun Jiayi felt somewhat disappointed, sadly thinking that men’s words truly couldn’t be trusted—he must have grown tired of trying to please her.

When her phone rang with Song Shimu’s call, Sun Jiayi answered to hear her stammering on the other end.

Jiayi, Moyu got injured on a mission. Do you want to come see him?

When Sun Jiayi arrived at the military hospital, she stood outside the ward door, suddenly feeling timid. Just as she hesitated, the door swung open to reveal a wide-eyed, surprised Song Shimu who had been coming out to meet her.

Jiayi? You got here so quickly?!

Hearing Sun Jiayi’s arrival, Zhai Moyu struggled to get up from the bed, only to be pushed back down by Lu Zhijin’s single finger.

Lie down properly!

Sun Jiayi walked in quietly. In the spacious, clean VIP room, Zhai Moyu lay injured on the hospital bed, his waist wrapped in extensive bandages still seeping blood, with wounds covering his chest, shoulders, and face.

Seeing Sun Jiayi, he happily grinned, Jiayi, you came to see me?

Lu Zhijin, sitting nearby, rolled his eyes in disdain at his lack of composure.

Sun Jiayi’s heart felt as if being squeezed, aching with dense pain. Biting her lip, she refused to let tears escape her eyes.

Zhai Moyu was almost wrapped up like a mummy!

Seeing the redness at the corners of Sun Jiayi’s eyes, Zhai Moyu explained lightheartedly, Jiayi, it’s nothing serious. No vital areas were injured. I can still protect you in the future.

Song Shimu quietly tugged at Lu Zhijin’s sleeve, signaling to step outside and give the two of them some space.

Before leaving, Lu Zhijin thought he’d help his hopeless friend and said to Sun Jiayi seriously, Jiayi, Moyu might be a jerk, but he’s sincere when it comes to feelings. He’s been foolish since he was a kid—after reading Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, he developed a liking for the fox spirit type of appearance. So he really doesn’t see you as someone else; you’re different to him.

Zhai Moyu’s eyes instantly widened, and he frowned as he shooed Lu Zhijin away. Lu Zhijin, get out of here!

That explanation was worse than saying nothing at all!

After they left, the hospital room fell into silence. Zhai Moyu cautiously watched Sun Jiayi’s expression and tentatively took her hand.

Jiayi, don’t listen to Lu Zhijin’s nonsense. You’re not a fox spirit—he was just trying to say you’re beautiful.

But one thing he said wasn’t wrong: I really do like you.

Zhai Moyu hooked his finger with Sun Jiayi’s and childishly shook their linked hands. You rushed here so anxiously to see me—were you worried about me? Does that mean you still like me?

I was worried you weren’t dead yet, Sun Jiayi said coldly, speaking out of spite.

…

Zhai Moyu thought: My wife is so adorable, she even knows how to joke.

You have no idea, when the assailant charged at me, I wasn’t scared at all. Even though I was bleeding, my only thought was that I couldn’t die—I hadn’t made you believe in my sincerity yet.

Zhai Moyu held Sun Jiayi’s hand and chattered on. Sun Jiayi remained quiet the whole time but didn’t reject his touch.

Suddenly, Zhai Moyu struggled to sit up, startling Sun Jiayi, who quickly pressed him down.

What are you doing? Don’t move recklessly!

I need to sit up and wipe your tears. My wife is crying, and it hurts me to see it.

Only then did Sun Jiayi realize she had been crying. She raised her hand to wipe the tears from her face and turned her head away, trying to hide it.

I’m not crying; I’m just tired from listening to you ramble.

Jiayi, please forgive me. I promise I’ll never do anything again that makes you doubt me or breaks your heart. I truly like you. Zhai Moyu looked at her with earnest eyes, his narrow gaze filled with deep affection.

If I lie to you, may I never return from a mission!

Don’t talk nonsense!

Sun Jiayi couldn’t help but lightly hit Zhai Moyu, her eyes full of conflict and hesitation.

What else could she do? Her frantic rush here had already given her the answer in her heart—she still had feelings for Zhai Moyu. She had foolishly fallen for this person.

Forget it, she resigned herself. At worst, she’d lose completely one more time.

One last chance.

Sun Jiayi murmured with her head lowered. Zhai Moyu’s eyes widened instantly, sparkling with joy as he stared in disbelief at the adorable woman.

What? Jiayi, say it again!

One last chance to believe you.

I love you to death, Jiayi!

Overjoyed, Zhai Moyu tried to hug Sun Jiayi but strained his wounds, grimacing in pain while still grinning widely.

Jiayi, I’ll treat you well—I’ll never make you sad again!

Zhai Moyu moved back into Sun Jiayi’s home and resumed his role as the househusband. The two returned to their former sweetness, even more in love than before. Zhai Moyu wished he could pluck the stars from the sky and give them to Sun Jiayi.

One day, Zhai Moyu mysteriously pulled Sun Jiayi along to an upscale residential compound, right next to Lu Zhijin’s home.

Sun Jiayi’s heart raced as she watched Zhai Moyu unlock the door. The interior was still somewhat empty, with minimal decoration.

Zhai Moyu placed the keys in Sun Jiayi’s hand.

“Jiayi, do you like it? How about we live here from now on? We can decorate it just the way you want.”

Sun Jiayi was momentarily stunned. Then, the man knelt on one knee before her, pulled out a velvet box from his pocket, and opened it to reveal a sparkling diamond ring. His eyes were bright, a smile playing at the corners of his lips.

“Jiayi, I love you. I want to entrust the rest of my life to you and spend a lifetime proving my love. Will you accept me?”

Tears welled up in Sun Jiayi’s eyes, moved beyond words. Without her knowing, Zhai Moyu had made all the preparations for their future.

She extended her hand and answered solemnly, “I do.”

Overjoyed, Zhai Moyu slipped the ring onto her finger and held his beloved tightly, sealing their promise with a passionate kiss.

“There’s something I need to tell you too,” Sun Jiayi murmured, resting her forehead against his. Her rosy lips glistened, and starlight seemed to sparkle in the corners of her eyes.

“I passed the exam to become a military doctor in your unit. From now on, we can see each other every day, and I’ll even join you on missions.”

Zhai Moyu was astonished. His unit was an elite force in the north, and no one was admitted easily. His precious Jiayi had not only passed the rigorous examination but had also fulfilled her long-held dream.

“I love you, baby. You’re amazing!”

From that day forward, they vowed never to part.

You protect the people, and I will save you.
