Chapter 127: This Love Never Changes

Song Shimu widened her eyes in disbelief as she turned around, feeling as if her world had been overturned. Her pupils instantly dilated, and tears streamed down her face.

A man with gaunt cheeks and a stubbled chin, yet still standing tall and straight—who else could it be but Lu Zhijin!

For a moment, Song Shimu froze, staring blankly as the man approached. In each other’s eyes, it seemed as though they had weathered countless storms, their profound affection now subdued into a calm stillness.

Once certain it was indeed Lu Zhijin, Song Shimu could no longer hold back. She rushed forward, throwing herself into the man’s arms with a grievance-filled sob, her voice trembling with tears.

“A Jin—”

Lu Zhijin held the woman tightly, lowering his head to inhale her scent deeply. Only at this moment did he truly feel alive again.

Forgetting time and place, they clung to each other in a tight embrace. With tear-filled eyes, Song Shimu lifted her head, cupping the man’s face carefully as if trying to reclaim all the days of longing in her gaze.

Yes, this was her A Jin—the real, living A Jin!

Unable to restrain herself, Song Shimu wrapped her arms around the man’s neck, rising slightly on her toes to press a fervent kiss to his lips. They were still as soft as she remembered, still carrying the familiar sensation from her memories.

Lu Zhijin lowered his head, kissing Song Shimu with abandon. He gently sucked on the lips he had dreamed of day and night, teasing and nibbling as if wanting to devour her, to merge her into his very being.

That way, no one could take her away, no one could ever separate them.

As dusk fell, this small corner of the park bore witness to the joyous reunion of two lovers after their separation.

“A Jin, where have you been these past few days? How is your health?”

After calming down, they sat on a park bench. Song Shimu expressed her concern for Lu Zhijin’s well-being, remembering clearly how she had seen Wu Yongwan’s gun fire directly into his chest.

“I’m fine, thanks to you, Mu Mu. You saved me.”

Song Shimu looked at him with confusion, not understanding what he meant.

Lu Zhijin pulled out a necklace from his chest—the very Star Pendant Song Shimu had custom-ordered for his birthday!

The engraving of Lu Zhijin and Song Shimu on the Star Pendant had been damaged by a bullet, leaving a hole.

Wu Yongwan’s bullet had struck the pendant directly, cushioning the impact. As a result, the bullet hadn’t penetrated deeply and had missed his heart.

Lu Zhijin’s chest was wrapped in bandages. Song Shimu frowned, her heart aching as she looked at it, her hand hovering nervously without daring to touch.

Lu Zhijin caught her hand and brought it to his lips for a gentle kiss. “It’s alright, it’s not serious. No bones or tendons were damaged. It’ll heal in time.”

“Then where have you been all these days? Why did it take you so long to return?”

Lu Zhijin sighed. Before falling into the sea, he had been severely beaten by Wu Yongwan and his men. Combined with nearly half a month of overtime work, his body had barely had any rest.

One blow had struck his head particularly hard, leaving him feeling dizzy afterward. He had forced himself to restrain Wu Yongwan—under normal circumstances, given his abilities, he would never have let Wu Yongwan gain the upper hand.

After falling into the sea, Lu Zhijin’s body reached its limit. He lost consciousness upon hitting the water and was washed ashore by the waves, where local fishermen rescued him.

His body was too exhausted, so he remained unconscious for several days and developed a fever. The small fishing village had poor medical facilities, and the fishermen couldn’t afford proper treatment for him. They could only keep him at home using manual cooling methods, leaving his fate to heaven.

Fortunately, Lu Zhijin’s strong physical constitution allowed him to pull through on his own.

After waking up, Lu Zhijin thanked the fishermen and hurried back, though his delay had already caused his Mu Mu much heartache and sorrow.

“It’s alright, what matters is you’re safe. Everything’s fine now.”

Song Shimu embraced Lu Zhijin, burying her face in his chest. Listening to his familiar, powerful heartbeat, she felt her soul finally settling back into place. With Lu Zhijin here, she had truly come back to life.

“Let’s go home. Ke Ke, along with your parents, have been terribly worried about you.”

Upon receiving the news, Lu’s father and mother rushed over immediately. The usually reserved and restrained parents instantly reddened when they saw Lu Zhijin alive, nearly stumbling as they got out of the car.

Lu’s mother held Lu Zhijin while weeping openly, pounding his chest with her fists – all traces of her former wealthy young lady’s decorum gone, replaced only by genuine, overwhelming joy.

Even Lu’s father unconsciously reddened, secretly wiping tears with the back of his hand. The strong-willed man who had lived a life of military discipline finally acknowledged his vulnerability in this moment.

When Lu Yike saw his father, he stood frozen gripping the door handle, his large eyes gradually filling with tears. His short legs carried him running over as he broke into uncontrollable sobs.

“Daddy… wuwu… Daddy… bad Daddy… stinky Daddy wuwu…”

Lu Zhijin’s eyes moistened, the corners reddening as he held Lu Yike and comforted him softly, then guided his parents inside.

This ordeal had put everyone through prolonged torment, but fortunately heaven showed mercy, and the outcome wasn’t tragic.

Song Shimu personally cooked a table full of her specialty dishes to wash away the misfortune from Lu Zhijin. Her eyes remained red throughout – from the immense joy of recovering what was lost, and from gratitude for heaven’s compassionate return of her A Jin to her side.

That evening, Song Shimu carefully helped Lu Zhijin bathe, worried he might accidentally hurt his wounds.

As warm water flowed over the man’s sturdy body, she looked at his numerous scars and was transported back to that day when Wu Yongwan had repeatedly struck Lu Zhijin with an iron rod. Unconsciously, her eyes reddened again.

“Mu Mu, I’m fine. Don’t worry. A man getting some injuries is nothing.”

Lu Zhijin cupped Song Shimu’s face, comforting her softly. His thumb stroked her reddened eye corners before he lowered his head to plant a reverent kiss.

Afterward, Song Shimu sat on the man’s lap, carefully shaving Lu Zhijin’s beard clean. She gazed at this handsome face that had once again appeared before her.

“Thank heaven for bringing you back to me.”

Song Shimu gently caressed the man’s face, her eyes filled with deep affection and profound reluctance, as if fearing everything might be just a dream – that if she blinked, everything would return to how it was before.

“I’m really back, Mu Mu.” Lu Zhijin turned his face to gently kiss the soft palm of her hand.

“Don’t get hurt anymore, and don’t leave me again.”

“I promise you, I’ll never make you suffer like this again.”

Lu Zhijin looked seriously at Song Shimu, his deep eyes shimmering with bright intensity as he made this heartfelt vow. He would never leave Song Shimu’s side for even a second again.

Song Shimu held the man tightly, their hearts beating in perfect unison, eternally conveying their love for one another.

We have journeyed through the ordinary and weathered life and death, our hearts brimming with a love that only grows stronger, making me certain that in this lifetime, it is only you.

From now on, I will not grow old until you come.

As long as we are together, we will forever be by each other’s side.

Companions for life, together until old age, unwavering in this lifetime, unchanging in this love.
