Chapter 123: Calm

The special forces teammates carefully scouted the surroundings, gradually approaching and slowly moving upstairs. Everyone couldn’t help but feel puzzled.

Was there really no one in this building?

On the second floor, someone found the room from the video.

Colonel, over here!

Lu Zhijin walked over and looked at the empty, dilapidated room with crumbling walls. A lone chair stood there, with scattered hemp ropes on the floor.

The night wind blew in through the windowless opening, chilling Lu Zhijin’s heart.

He lowered his eyes, staring unblinkingly at that chair, his deep pupils contemplating something unknown.

That was where Mu Mu had been kept.

Lu Zhijin covered his face, feeling anxious and distressed inside. How terrified Mu Mu must have been – he had to find her quickly!

Everyone silently watched Colonel Lu standing there. The man who was once arrogant and haughty now appeared dejected and helpless.

Stand down.

Lu Zhijin spoke calmly, turned around with clear expression in his eyes that contained overwhelming rage and restrained calmness.

Wu Yongwan had done this deliberately, just to watch them being led around by the nose.

Throughout the night, the police station staff worked busily. Though physically exhausted, they stubbornly stared at the surveillance footage, hoping to find the slightest clue.

In the morning, Lu’s father called, his voice deep and particularly serious.

Mu Mu is missing?

This morning, when Lu Yike saw that his mother still hadn’t returned, his little heart kept pounding anxiously. Worried, he called Lu’s mother, his voice already tearful from the start.

Grandma, Mom is gone.

Ms. Su Yunrong was startled and quickly comforted her sobbing grandson, asking what had happened.

In wealthy families like theirs, kidnapping incidents weren’t uncommon. Lu’s mother’s heart sank at that moment, but she could only comfort Lu Yike first.

Then she immediately told Lu’s father about the situation.

Lu Zhijin unconsciously pinched the bridge of his nose, heaved a deep sigh, his voice somewhat downcast.

Yes, I’m the one who implicated Mu Mu.

Lu’s father remained silent on the other end, feeling low. Nobody wanted something like this to happen.

I have two former subordinates at the National Security Bureau. I’ll make a call. Their equipment is more advanced, which should make finding her easier.

Thank you, Dad.

Why say that among family? Focus on bringing Mu Mu back safely!

— — — —

Song Shimu didn’t know where she was being held. A black cloth remained covering her eyes, her hands tied behind her back. The surroundings felt somewhat damp, as if underground.

The people who had kidnapped her remained in front of her, openly discussing strategies without avoiding her presence.

Master Wan, when are we going to demand the ransom?A simple, deep voice spoke – probably the big fat guy who had captured her that day.

What’s the hurry! His wife is in our hands. We should properly torment Lu Zhijin! Wu Yongwan forcefully slapped the fat man’s head.

He raised the corner of his eye, looking provocatively at the woman in the corner, then stood up and slowly walked over. He lifted the black cloth from Song Shimu’s eyes – those beautiful large pupils trembled slightly, filled with fear.

He absolutely loved that look. Watching her fearful expression, Wu Yongwan couldn’t help but burst into loud, terrifying laughter.

Song Shimu shrank back, not knowing what this man intended to do.

The big fat man walked over, his face lecherous, his eyes fixed intently on Song Shimu as he fawned obsequiously before Wu Yongwan.

Master Wan, Lu Zhijin’s wife is so beautiful. How about letting me have some fun with her? That would make Lu Zhijin even more miserable, wouldn’t it?

Wu Yongwan’s eyes shifted, and he lowered his eyelids to scrutinize Song Shimu’s pretty little face. Her disheveled hair clung to her sharp chin, giving her a pitiful appearance that only stirred the cruelty in a man’s heart.

He stroked his chin and crouched down, staring directly at Song Shimu as he sized up her figure from head to toe. She was indeed a stunning beauty.

Song Shimu fearfully shrank back, forcing herself to stay calm. She made muffled sounds—not meaningless struggles, but a signal that she had something to say.

The big fat man, receiving the instruction, stepped forward and tore the tape off Song Shimu’s mouth.

Song Shimu took a light breath, her gaze calm as she looked at the other party and slowly spoke.

Lu Zhijin and I are in a business marriage. Capturing me won’t hurt him at all. Besides, I’ve already borne him a child. At this point, he couldn’t care less whether I live or die.

Wu Yongwan narrowed his small eyes, looking as if he were watching a joke.

Do you take me for a fool? A century wedding, a global declaration of love—and you’re telling me it’s a business marriage?

The Lu family is a prominent figure in Haishi. How could they possibly treat a wedding as a joke?!

And that declaration of love back then was only because he was caught keeping a mistress. He did it to protect the family’s reputation and his own position.

Seeing Wu Yongwan’s slightly hesitant expression, Song Shimu pressed on.

Think about it—with Lu Zhijin’s cold personality, how could he possibly fall for a woman? The only person he cares about is himself!

So capturing me to threaten him is useless. I overheard your conversation—aren’t you trying to make a comeback?

Song Shimu swallowed nervously, cautiously observing the other’s expression.

That must require a lot of money, right? The Lu family has no shortage of money. Don’t touch me, and I’ll tell you where the money is.

Wu Yongwan silently assessed Song Shimu, weighing the truth of her words as he hesitated inwardly.

The fat man beside him, seeing Wu Yongwan’s hesitation, grew impatient and anxious.

This woman was more beautiful than any he had seen in the Golden Triangle. Just one glance from her stirred his desire.

Master Wan, why not have some fun with her first and then take the money? It’s a win-win!

If you dare touch me, I’ll die before telling you where the money is. Five billion—you won’t get a single cent! And Lu Zhijin definitely won’t give it to you either!

Song Shimu spoke fiercely, her eyes filled with a desperate, do-or-die intensity.

Wu Yongwan’s eyes instantly widened, and the fat man’s beady eyes bulged in shock.

How much money?!

Five billion. That’s just the tip of the iceberg—consider it a meeting gift from me. If you let me go after taking the money, I can give you even more.

How do I know if you’re telling the truth?

Wu Yongwan unconsciously swallowed, his eyes slightly narrowed, but his mind was already racing.

Five billion! With that, what would he have to worry about?

Then send someone to check. It’s not like you’re going to the police station—what are you afraid of?

You’d better not try any tricks!

Wu Yongwan warned fiercely, then turned to the fat man beside him and gave him a look, instructing him to remember the location Song Shimu mentioned and go retrieve the money as she directed.

My ID is in my bag. When you go, just say you’re withdrawing money for Mrs. Lu.

Song Shimu’s expression remained calm, his face devoid of emotion as he coldly stared at the greasy, overweight man.

Wu Yongwan sat anxiously in his chair, his leg trembling uncontrollably.

If—if this was real—with those five hundred million, what business couldn’t he launch? He’d still be the revered Second Master Wan of the Golden Triangle!

Master Wan!

A subordinate rushed over in a panic, his face drenched in cold sweat.

Trouble! The police are here!

Damn it!

Wu Yongwan shot to his feet, his eyes wide with fury as he glared at Song Shimu. Without a second thought, he grabbed the man and fled for his life.
