Chapter 77: The Scheming Little Qianzhi

***

Pushing through the passionate crowd, Eve inched forward bit by bit.

It must be said that even though little Qianzhi was right before her eyes, despite how close the distance was, Eve couldn’t get a step closer no matter how hard she tried.

Even Qianzhi on the other side was getting anxious watching this. It must be said that the double wages were indeed well spent, these people were truly dedicated to their work.

However, according to stories of heroes fighting dragons to rescue princesses, the obstacles blocking the hero’s path should just be paper tigers going through the motions.

Now thanks to Qianzhi’s double wages, there remained an insurmountable distance between Eve and herself.

Eve couldn’t get through, and Qianzhi couldn’t get across either.

Originally, according to the hero-fights-dragon story, the princess should stay in the dragon’s castle, only embracing the hero at the very last moment.

After all, a princess needs to maintain her dignity, just like Qianzhi now, she shouldn’t appear too forward.

But clearly, the “little princess” Qianzhi who should have maintained her dignity couldn’t wait for “hero” Eve to rescue her anymore.

In her burning impatience, she simply lowered her voice to scare away the crowd, reaching her hand over the human wall directly in front of Eve.

And Eve successfully grabbed her wrist, rescuing her from among the crowd.

Even because it was too crowded, Qianzhi lost her balance and fell into Eve’s embrace.

Feeling that warm, soft embrace, Qianzhi’s cheeks reddened without reason.

Little Qianzhi, who already possessed several qualities of a gentle moonlight character, looked even more beautiful with her face flushed red.

That feeling was just like in high school when that pure and clean girl whom you never dared or were willing to look at directly responded to your confession with a maiden’s implicit yet affirmative shyness, that moment of mutual pursuit…

This feeling simply cannot be described in words.

And at this moment, Qianzhi, the top-tier moonlight in everyone’s hearts, truly believed she was in mutual pursuit with Eve.

“Are you alright?”

Eve looked at Qianzhi in her arms and asked with concern.

“I do…”

Qianzhi blurted out instinctively, but in the next second when she calmed down, she immediately realized she had said something inappropriate.

“No, I mean, thank you… Miss Eve. Otherwise, I really wouldn’t have known what to do.”

Qianzhi lowered her head slightly. In Eve’s eyes, she was just a poor little girl whose mother had unfortunately passed away, who hadn’t emerged from her gloom, carrying a bit of introversion. Besides money, she had nothing left…

So Eve would always take special care of this young girl.

But in Qianzhi’s view, this situation wouldn’t have happened at all if she hadn’t deliberately arranged it.

Although Qianzhi was indeed very popular at the Church Academy and was the top-tier moonlight in countless people’s hearts.

There were even many sons of nobles and aristocrats who desperately tried to enter the Church Academy, not for receiving the best magic education to elevate their family’s status, but to catch a glimpse of the top-tier moonlight Qianzhi.

But even though Qianzhi was so popular, very few people dared to approach her.

Not only because they were wary of the Lorraine family behind her, but more because of the coldness Qianzhi displayed.

That disdainful gaze that seemed to put nothing in her eyes, along with the fearsome Lorraine family behind her, made people feel intimidated.

So Qianzhi was like a pure white lotus, anyone who simply took a glance would feel unable to raise their head.

Because she was simply too dazzling, only to be admired from afar…

Therefore, the possibility of a group of people surrounding Qianzhi to invite her for a dance was basically zero.

It wasn’t that everyone was unwilling, but because no one dared to do so.

But Qianzhi herself didn’t understand this, she only knew that everyone was afraid of her. Even when they met her on the road, they would avoid her from far away, as if avoiding some kind of monster.

In others’ views, it was because when they encountered Qianzhi, they felt insecure and couldn’t raise their heads in front of her.

But in Qianzhi’s view, this was just an inexplicable estrangement.

“It’s alright… But speaking of which, wouldn’t rejecting those people’s dance invitations leave you with regrets at the graduation ceremony?”

Eve looked at Qianzhi in her arms, somehow feeling that when Qianzhi fell into her embrace, there seemed to be an inexplicable gathering of passionate gazes around them.

“No…”

Qianzhi shook her head. She showed no intention of getting up; instead, she was trying her best to enjoy Eve’s embrace.

“There’s nothing to regret anyway.”

Qianzhi muttered in a low voice.

Her voice was so soft that even Eve couldn’t hear clearly what she said.

But only Qianzhi herself knew clearly that in this entire venue, no one would come to invite her to dance.

These classmates, either hindered by her status or by her personality, didn’t dare to approach her.

For Qianzhi, there was no dance segment in her graduation ceremony.

If there really was one, she wouldn’t have needed her aunt to spend money hiring these extras.

“It’s something everyone should experience, after all, it’s part of youth. From now on, we’ll have to busy ourselves with life, no longer being carefree students. We should put a period to this experience, shouldn’t we?”

Eve looked at the contemplative Qianzhi, and also noticed in her eyes a hint of yearning for the couples who had already bravely stepped onto the dance floor.

“No one would sincerely want to invite me to dance.”

“That’s true, after all, Qianzhi is from a wealthy family. When people approach you, they more or less have ulterior motives.”

Eve nodded. The utilitarianism in this other world was no less than the world Eve had lived in before.

“Ulterior motives? Then does Miss Eve have ulterior motives towards me?”

“I…”

Eve was stunned, clearly not expecting Qianzhi to ask such a question. After all, her distance with Qianzhi did seem a bit too close.

“I actually hope you would have ulterior motives towards me.”

Before Eve could answer, Qianzhi had already started answering her own question.

The ulterior motives she spoke of, to Eve’s ears, somehow felt strange… it seemed to have nothing to do with money and status.

“Then… would Miss Eve be willing to dance with me?”

“Me?”

Eve looked at Qianzhi in her arms, who was raising her pretty face and looking at her with anticipation, and was momentarily speechless.

“I’m afraid I can’t… I don’t know how to dance, and I’m much older than you.”

Moreover, Eve had already agreed to dance with Alice.

If Qianzhi took the first step, wouldn’t Alice be unhappy?
