Chapter 53: She Will Only Be Gentle to Me Alone
***
Looking at the exquisite dress before her, Leah racked her brains and used every means possible, yet still seemed unable to describe its stunning beauty.
It wasn’t that Leah had never seen beautiful dresses before, because she studied at the Church Academy, a top aristocratic school where you could randomly throw a brick and potentially hit four or five nobles.
There, the rich students’ leisure life was extremely abundant.
The graduation ceremony banquet was just the tip of the iceberg, their regular recreational activities could be described as dazzling.
They would frequently hold balls that cost gold coins, or engage in entertainments like horseback riding and other activities that only nobles could access.
Each time, Leah could only catch a glimpse from afar, then lower her head and quickly leave.
Even though Leah tried hard to resist looking at the luxurious dresses worn by those young ladies, just a glance was extremely impactful for a girl of Leah’s age.
After all, who doesn’t wish to dress up beautifully?
Even if not for others to see, Leah would be happy just twirling in front of a mirror wearing an elegant and exquisite dress.
The best clothes she had ever worn were first, the Church Academy uniform, and second, the little dress she bought on sale, gritting her teeth to afford it, planning to dress up beautifully to leave this world with Eve.
Besides these, she had never worn any other beautiful clothes.
“Do you like it?”
Eve walked out from the kitchen, and seeing the shocked expression on Leah’s face, she couldn’t help but smile.
It wasn’t in vain that she had worked overtime last night, burning the midnight oil, and finally managed to complete this dress.
It perfectly matched Leah’s figure and temperament, one-of-a-kind in the whole world, a dress belonging exclusively to her precious daughter.
Even before being worn, it could already be described as stunning. Eve couldn’t even imagine how beautiful it would be once worn by its rightful owner.
“Is this made for me? Do I really deserve this…”
Leah’s voice trembled as she spoke.
“How could you not deserve it? Would you like to try it on? I’ll help you.”
Eve knelt down and gently stroked Leah’s head.
It was then that Leah noticed Eve’s fingers had many wounds, especially several obvious needle pricks that were painful to look at.
“Mama, your hands?”
“It’s nothing, mama hasn’t made clothes for many years, so I’m a bit rusty. Some mistakes are only natural.”
Leah ignored Eve’s explanation. She held Eve’s hands with concern, looking at the wounds on them, and her eyes unknowingly became blurred with tears.
From childhood, she had never experienced care and love; the only light in her life had been Eve, who had once sponsored her.
Originally, she thought that having Eve appear in her life to help her up was already the limit.
But she never dreamed that one day, she would receive all of Eve’s love.
These beautiful jade-like hands full of wounds were the best proof.
“Doesn’t it hurt?”
Eve’s hands were beautiful, which made these wounds even more striking.
Logically, such beautiful hands should be well protected.
But for Leah’s sake, she not only used these hands to wash clothes and cook, but also worked through the night regardless of everything to make her the most beautiful dress.
Eve hadn’t broken her promise, she really made a dress that would amaze everyone…
But she gave all her energy and love to Leah, yet failed to notice that her own hands were gradually becoming rough.
“It doesn’t hurt. As long as you’re happy, that’s what matters. Why are you crying? Today is your big day, it’s not good to have a runny nose.”
Eve gently wiped away the tears on Leah’s face.
“Let’s have breakfast first, then after you’re full, I’ll help you try on the dress to see if it fits, then do your makeup and hair. It’s fine if we arrive a bit late today, after all, you’re the main character, and the main character always makes a grand entrance last.”
“Okay?”
Eve’s gentleness made Leah’s tears flow uncontrollably.
To be honest, she couldn’t understand at all, couldn’t understand why someone would be foolish enough to willingly give up someone as gentle as Eve.
If Leah had been the one adopted by Eve back then, she would never let go of Eve’s hand, even if it meant death.
But she couldn’t help worrying, worried that Eve would return to her former adopted daughter.
After all, after raising her for so many years, there must be some emotional attachment.
This was something Leah absolutely wouldn’t allow to happen, so…
Leah looked at the dress in front of her, and a naughty idea naturally arose from the bottom of her heart.
It wasn’t really that bad of an idea, she just planned to repeat everything that the little ungrateful child Vivian had done to her when she met her later.
Let’s see now, who is the wild child without a mother’s love and care?
Who is it? Well, it’s definitely not me, Leah!
