Chapter 5: The Dragon-Pride Protagonist

***

But now, this future female lead was standing before her with downcast eyes, looking like a child who had made a mistake, appearing pitiful and vulnerable.

Eve carefully recalled the plot from the original story, this was her biggest information advantage that she must utilize well.

At present, both the timing and Leah’s condition matched the original story, except that when the dragon-pride protagonist discovered Leah, she was already in a dying state after consuming poison.

Because the dragon-pride protagonist saved her, Leah felt she was given a second chance at life, which was why she fell for him.

After that, she would replace Eve’s ungrateful adopted daughter, becoming the protagonist’s second most reliable right-hand woman.

After all, her talent was acknowledged even by Eve the great witch. While humans’ first impression of witches was typically deep hatred, the dragon-pride protagonist, being the main character, had a different perspective on things.

A girl acknowledged by a witch wasn’t simply guilty of colluding with witches. Setting aside the Church’s political correctness, receiving a witch’s acknowledgment was a testament to one’s abilities.

Additionally, because of her association with witches, she would certainly face ostracism from others. At such times, if someone reached out to her, the dragon-pride protagonist would become the only light in Leah’s desperate life.

“Cunning, truly cunning, no wonder he’s the dragon-pride protagonist.”

Eve muttered to herself internally.

This was only surface deep, but based on Eve’s understanding, this matter wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

After all, this world wasn’t as beautiful as normal people imagined, but rather twisted to the extreme.

This was a world that existed specifically for an extremely twisted adult novel.

Even looking through the entire text, Eve might be the only relatively normal person, and she died at the beginning after giving the dragon-pride protagonist his starter package.

Eve’s death was caused by the ungrateful child’s betrayal, but who had instigated the ungrateful girl to do so?

Eve had raised the ungrateful child for some time, and setting aside the fact that Eve had saved her life, just considering the kindness of adoption alone, even if the ungrateful child didn’t repay it, she shouldn’t have gone so far as to cause Eve’s death, right?

This must be connected to the dragon-pride protagonist, because after Eve’s death, the biggest beneficiary wasn’t the ungrateful child… but the dragon-pride protagonist who was parasitically feeding off her.

As for why Eve thought her death was connected to the dragon-pride protagonist, it was evident from his despicable actions in the original story.

He was particularly skilled at killing by proxy.

Because the mastermind who drove Leah to this point was actually him, the dragon-pride protagonist.

The more Leah was bullied, the more she was oppressed, the easier it would be for the dragon-pride protagonist to win her heart.

He didn’t even need to act directly or cultivate goodwill. He just needed to continuously have others pressure Leah, and when she finally couldn’t bear it anymore, he only needed to follow his plan and give her a slight pull to make her completely devoted to him.

And it would be the kind of devotion she couldn’t shake off, more loyal than a dog, though in the dragon-pride protagonist’s heart, she might be worth less than a dog…

Thinking of this, Eve looked at the pitiful girl before her, so frail she seemed she might shatter at the slightest touch.

She couldn’t help but feel heartache.

That girl whom Eve had treasured like a precious jewel, that girl whom Eve had envisioned as humanity’s future top magician, that girl whom Eve had worked so hard to save…

Yet the dragon-pride protagonist treated her as cheaply as grass, and then used his deliberately kind manner that even dogs would find obvious, pulling her from one abyss into another.

And this poor girl felt content with it, believing someone had saved her.

She would even secretly visit Eve’s grave to whisper conversations, telling Eve about her supposedly happy but tragic experiences.

“Silly child, I don’t blame you. Why have you become so thin? Has someone been bullying you?”

Eve gently patted Leah’s head. The small girl’s tiny frame trembled as if overwhelmed by the affection. She slowly raised her head, her eyes gaining a glimmer of light as she looked at Eve.

“This box of medicine should be forbidden drugs, right? Who sold it to you?”

“Don’t be afraid, I’m here now, aren’t I? You can tell me anything, and I’ll protect you from now on, okay?”
