Chapter 33: Joy for Some, Sorrow for Others
***
However, the dragon-pride protagonist himself didn’t have such a sense of crisis.
He even dismissed what Vivian said with contempt.
He sneered disdainfully, gesturing to Vivian not to worry about him, saying that the primary concern now was still about Leah’s matter.
In the dragon-pride protagonist’s plan, Leah was definitely a potential asset he intended to acquire.
The medicine that his people had prepared had already been bought by her, and someone had personally seen her enter the public cemetery in the suburbs of the Imperial capital.
But when the dragon-pride protagonist broke in there with his people, thinking to play the hero, they found nothing.
They originally thought Leah might have died in some corner, but unexpectedly, not only was Leah not dead, she was actually living quite well.
Today at the Church Academy, one of the dragon-pride protagonist’s lackeys even saw her walking hand in hand with an incredibly beautiful lady in the campus, with a notably cheerful expression on her face.
It should be known that Leah had been deliberately targeted by the dragon-pride protagonist for almost 2 years now; forget about looking cheerful, even forcing out a smile was difficult for her.
This wasn’t what the dragon-pride protagonist wanted to see. He wanted Leah to fall into despair, and then he would appear as the last ray of light in Leah’s life, completely changing her life trajectory.
Just like how he used Vivian, he wanted to use Leah to help him climb to a new social class.
After all, in the dragon-pride protagonist’s view, women were just tools to be used. However, for some unknown reason, ever since that witch died, Vivian seemed to have become less obedient to him than before.
This made the dragon-pride protagonist very unhappy, and he couldn’t allow the same situation to happen with Leah, whom he had planned for so long.
“No matter what, before the graduation ceremony begins, I need to see Leah’s name removed from the outstanding graduate list.”
“Moreover, I have some precautions to tell you.”
The dragon-pride protagonist looked at Vivian who was blocking the door, and pushed her shoulder with obvious displeasure.
Unprepared, Vivian staggered back several meters and fell to the ground, losing her balance.
The heart-wrenching pain made Vivian break out in cold sweat, but the dragon-pride protagonist and his followers showed no sign of sympathy, even blaming Vivian for not standing steadily.
They told her to stop pretending to be pitiful and quickly get up to prepare snacks and tea.
Vivian bit her lips hard, and her eyes looking at the dragon-pride protagonist contained several traces of hatred. But even more was the grievance that she couldn’t tell anyone…
If Mama Eve was still here, she would never let her suffer such grievances.
But she was gone now…
Vivian couldn’t help but ask herself… This was all your own choice, do you like it?
No! Really don’t like it… Perhaps a year ago, Vivian might have still been able to stubbornly defend her luxurious lifestyle.
But now, she regretted it to the extreme. She would give anything to have Mama Eve back by her side.
Vivian even felt somewhat envious of Leah, after all, she was able to reunite with her birth mother after being separated for so many years.
The previously bullied Leah had overnight become a child who was loved and cared for.
But what about herself? She couldn’t even control her own life.
“Did you hear what I said? You might not have the ability to directly remove her from the list, but using some tricks to smear her should be easy enough, right?”
“Hey!”
The dragon-pride protagonist’s rebuke pulled Vivian back to reality.
Vivian couldn’t help but clench her fists, beginning to plot a plan in her mind.
…
“Delicious, really delicious.”
Leah couldn’t stop praising Eve’s cooking, feeling it was even better than the food in those luxurious restaurants in the Imperial capital.
Although she had never actually tasted the food in those luxurious restaurants, whenever she was hungry, her sense of taste would become extraordinarily sensitive, and at those times, she would secretly pretend to pass by those luxurious restaurants.
Smelling the aroma of food wafting out from inside was like having a full meal.
Thanks to Eve’s excellent culinary skills, the gloom Leah felt on the way back from not getting the outstanding graduate representative position was completely swept away by this delicious food.
Eve made a borscht with tomatoes and premium beef brisket for the two children, accompanied by soft and fluffy white bread.
Originally, she had thought about making Chinese food, after all, Eve’s skillful hands combined with her memories of special dishes from all over the world.
Could definitely conquer anyone’s taste buds.
But considering the limited conditions and the children’s acceptance level, Eve thought it would be better to take things slowly.
Not just Leah, even Qianzhi put aside her ladylike manner. She, who usually ate like a little bird, now had a huge appetite.
Without realizing it, she had already eaten two large pieces of bread. She even seemed somewhat unsatisfied, this was the first time she had eaten so much.
She carefully looked at the bread on the plate, her reason telling her she couldn’t eat anymore, but her stomach was strongly protesting.
“Are you finished eating?”
“Mm… I can’t eat anymore, I’ll get fat if I eat more.”
Qianzhi lowered her head slightly. Girls always have body image anxiety, even though Qianzhi’s figure was perfect, she still couldn’t help having such thoughts.
“Why worry about that? Your figure is beautiful, why should a child your age be anxious about these things? You should first eat well at every meal, then think about other things. Come on, have another piece of bread.”
“I think Qianzhi looks beautiful just the way she is, there’s no need to deliberately diet.”
Eve gently patted Qianzhi’s head, making Qianzhi blush shyly.
Although she had already made up her mind not to eat anymore, hearing Eve’s gentle voice, plus the craving in her stomach, after hesitating repeatedly, she still picked up another piece of bread.
“That’s right.”
Eve nodded with a smile. She wasn’t in a hurry to eat, but was looking through the apartment management manual left by the previous staff member.
It detailed what she should do as the apartment manager.
It had to be said that although there weren’t many works, they were quite tedious.
Especially the last few items, for underage residents living alone, the apartment manager should pay extra attention and take the initiative to do some things within their capabilities.
Eve looked at the management manual in her hand and then at the adorable Qianzhi sitting across from her, who was puffing air because the beef brisket was too hot.
It felt like this condition was too specifically targeted. There weren’t many residents in this apartment building, and most of the rooms were vacant.
And Qianzhi could be said to be the only resident who met the conditions for Eve’s special care.
As for what the so-called things within capabilities included… Eve wasn’t quite clear.
Might as well just ask Qianzhi directly.
“Zhizhi.”
“Mmm…”
Hearing Eve call her name in such an intimate way, Qianzhi was so startled she almost dropped her spoon into the bowl.
“Are… are you calling me?”
“I’m sorry, I think you’re so cute, so I called you that unconsciously, do you not like it?”
“It’s… it’s okay, Madam Eve can call me whatever you like…”
Qianzhi put down her spoon and said softly, somewhat shyly.
“Do you have anything you need help with?”
“Eh… this is so sudden?”
Qianzhi was at a loss for a moment.
“Well, I am the apartment manager now. Since I’m getting paid, I should act like a manager, right?”
“Oh… there is something, but I don’t know if Madam Eve would mind? I’m not very good at doing laundry and…”
“Laundry? That’s a small matter, leave it to me.”
Before Qianzhi could finish, Eve had already agreed.
But when they finished lunch and Eve received the basket of so-called dirty clothes from Qianzhi, Eve was completely dumbfounded.
The basket was full of very girly underwear.
“This…”
“I usually send my regular clothes back home and have the servants wash them.”
Qianzhi’s cheeks were slightly red, her pretty face almost as red as a ripe tomato.
“But for these clothes specifically, I don’t dare let people I don’t trust wash them. So… could I trouble Madam Eve?”
