Chapter 32: Three Sentences That Destroyed the Dragon-Pride Protagonist’s Dream
***
No matter how much she cried, nothing could be undone anymore.
But Vivian still couldn’t help it, especially after enduring so much grievance, remembering the days when people would rush to show concern even if she just accidentally tripped.
That gentleness deep in the bones, like the fine rain of spring…
But now, no matter how much grievance Vivian suffered, she could only bear it alone.
The more this happened, the more she realized just how well Eve Lawrence had protected her before.
She always thought that as long as she could become the high and mighty Holy Maiden, she could get everything she wanted.
But reality wasn’t like that. She realized too late the truth that there’s always someone better, and there’s always a higher sky. Under the system of the Holy Church, the seemingly prestigious Holy Maiden was actually no different from a mascot.
Vivian got the life she had dreamed of, but after truly experiencing it, the feeling was worlds apart from what she had imagined.
How was this massive villa any different from a prison that confined her?
The dedicated carriage that came and went at her beck and call whenever she went out was actually monitoring and controlling her movements.
Those servants who acted subservient to her were actually more like the Holy Church’s informants.
And those supposedly prestigious and high-status activities she participated in daily were actually just using her as a decorative piece pushed to the forefront.
She couldn’t decide anything for herself, not even what she would do each day.
The stark contrast between reality and ideal made Vivian increasingly desperate.
She began to regret, because the heartfelt words Eve said before leaving were being proven true one by one before Vivian’s eyes.
The only person in the whole world who truly loved her was just Eve alone.
“I was just a stray cat kindly taken in and raised by mama, what was I being so proud and satisfied about?”
Vivian sobbed softly with a red face.
Knock knock knock.
Along with a series of urgent knocks on the door, Vivian was forcibly pulled back to reality from her grief.
Hearing the impolite knocking outside, Vivian felt a surge of anger in her heart.
Were these people going to occupy even her rare private time in the evening?
Vivian originally wanted to lash out in anger, but then she thought, perhaps she could have someone to talk to?
Although unwilling in her heart, she was really too depressed right now. With the thought of adjusting her mood, she got up to open the door.
The moment the door opened, the face of a handsome young man appeared before her eyes.
Behind him were several boys about the same age, each dressed very properly, clearly young masters from some wealthy families.
And this handsome young man before Vivian was none other than the dragon-pride protagonist from the original worldview, still in his cub stage before coming of age.
“Zhang Bo? What are you doing at my house so late?”
Vivian looked at the uninvited dragon-pride protagonist before her, feeling very displeased.
She did want to find someone to talk to, to relieve the depression in her heart, but obviously she didn’t want him to be the one she confided in.
Thanks to Eve’s heartfelt words before leaving, Vivian awoke much earlier than in the original story.
She didn’t end up serving the dragon-pride protagonist with all her might until the moment of death before realizing the truth of the matter.
When she realized that Eve’s kindness to her was genuine, Vivian’s mindset underwent significant changes.
The first person she distanced herself from was the dragon-pride protagonist who had instigated her to report Eve as a witch.
Even because Vivian’s heart was gradually leaning towards Eve, she also saw some clues in the things the dragon-pride protagonist asked her to do.
Simply put, her love-addled brain was cured by Eve.
Her smart intelligence regained the high ground, able to realize that she had been used.
But… Eve, who loved her the most, could never come back. With this mindset, Vivian’s favorable impression of the dragon-pride protagonist kept dropping with each request he made.
Finally becoming negative numbers like today…
It could be said that Eve’s few parting words destroyed this young male protagonist’s dragon-pride dream.
“You should call him Young Master Zhang.”
The lackey beside the dragon-pride protagonist reflexively corrected.
Vivian didn’t care about any Young Master Zhang or whatever, she was feeling depressed right now.
She wanted to close the door and send them away before they could state their purpose.
But true to being the dragon-pride protagonist, his skin was thick enough that before Vivian could react, he grabbed her hand that was about to close the door.
“Please be patient, Holy Maiden. Coming to find you so late definitely means there’s something important.”
“You know Leah, our genius classmate from the Church Academy? She’s back in class again.”
The dragon-pride protagonist gave Vivian a meaningful look, and Vivian certainly knew what he wanted to express.
During the period when Vivian was confused and about to awaken but had not yet awakened, she had helped the dragon-pride protagonist do many things.
This included targeting this pitiful child Leah.
The reason the dragon-pride protagonist personally gave was very simple, because she had received help from the red-haired witch who was executed by hanging. Although that witch had already been put to death, but what kind of place was the Church Academy?
The dragon-pride protagonist even shouted that how could he allow such a troublemaker to exist in the Church Academy?
Vivian knew the dragon-pride protagonist’s nasty tricks very clearly, and even now thinking back about them still made her feel nauseated.
What was even more nauseating was… that she had stupidly participated.
This was bullying, the kind of deplorable behavior that Eve despised most when she was alive.
“And she suddenly became an outstanding graduate. There are only so many spots for outstanding graduates, if she gets in someone has to get out.”
The dragon-pride protagonist pointed at several of his cronies beside him.
“We know all those outstanding graduates, it wouldn’t be good to kick any of them out, so I hope you, Holy Maiden, could use some tricks to make Leah’s outstanding graduate position…”
The dragon-pride protagonist didn’t finish speaking, but made a gesture instead.
But this time, Vivian was determined not to stand with the dragon-pride protagonist anymore.
“I can’t help you, this matter was personally decided by the principal. As for that Leah, it seems she has found her mother, she’s no longer the wild child you speak of.”
“If you bully her, you’d better think twice about it.”
When saying this, Vivian couldn’t help but feel her heart tighten.
Although she didn’t want to admit it, she had to say that Leah’s birth mother whom she met in the hallway today was very, very similar to Eve.
Not only was their temperament similar, but that gentleness that seemed to seep into one’s bones was also very similar to the late Eve.
It was almost as if… the mother she yearned for had been taken away by Leah.
“So what?”
The dragon-pride protagonist showed a face full of disdain.
“That madam seems to have a medal issued by one of the empire’s three major decision-makers. Rather than considering these things here, you might as well think about whether you can keep your own outstanding graduate position.”
The dragon-pride protagonist also had an outstanding graduate position, though his grades weren’t particularly good.
His ability to enter the outstanding graduate list was entirely due to utilizing Vivian and his cronies.
And just as the dragon-pride protagonist said, when someone enters the list someone must exit, setting aside the children of those officials and nobles on the list, the most suitable person to be kicked out seemed to be the dragon-pride protagonist who had no background.
