Chapter 15: The Residence

***

“Getting it wasn’t easy at all.”

Eve walked out of the magnificent Royal Palace with Leah, sighing as they went along.

Before leaving, a maid hurriedly caught up with them and left Eve a key.

She said this was her personal help to Eve, after all, her Princess had instructed her to take good care of Eve whenever possible.

Any help that could be offered should not be refused, and they shouldn’t wait for Eve to ask before taking initiative.

Looking at the key handed over by the maid whose expression carried a hint of coldness, Eve didn’t quite understand her meaning.

“This key?”

“It’s for a vacant room in a building near the Church Academy on that street. Although the area isn’t very large, the living facilities are fairly complete.”

“You two can stay there temporarily, and return it to me whenever you find a permanent place to live.”

The maid’s tone carried a sense of unwavering calmness, as if nothing could disturb her emotions that seemed as unmovable as wood.

Eve looked at the tag attached to the key, which indeed showed an address near the Church Academy.

“I see, thank you so much, I really don’t know how to thank you…”

“Don’t mention it.”

After seeing Eve accept the key, the maid didn’t even give her a chance to exchange pleasantries, merely giving a slight bow before turning to leave.

Eve was left standing there, watching her graceful figure gradually disappear, with a bewildered expression.

This key was indeed a significant help to Eve, otherwise, being penniless, she would probably have had to spend the night outside with Leah.

Having a place to stay was good, at least she could sort out her current messy situation and then set a direction and goal.

That beautiful ice queen of a maid, though she spoke little, was very thoughtful indeed.

Leah was still holding the small pastry basket she had given her, filled with plenty of bread and pastries, all things that Leah liked to eat.

Following the Princess’s orders, that maid had taken Leah for pastries, not asking a single question throughout, just continuously bringing one plate of pastries after another to the table for Leah.

Then, judging Leah’s preferences based on which ones she ate more of, she finally packed a large amount for Leah before they left.

“This big sister is strange, but surprisingly easy to get along with,”

Leah said softly, staying close to Eve.

“What did you mean earlier when you said it wasn’t easy?”

Leah looked up at Eve curiously, always sensitive to Eve’s sighs.

“Nothing, nothing, just some small matters. Here, take this, tomorrow you can bring it to the teachers at the Church Academy, and then no one will prevent you from graduating anymore.”

Eve smiled as she handed the letter of recommendation to Leah, who held the weighty envelope as if it were a treasure.

For her, nothing could be more exciting than being able to graduate smoothly from the Church Academy.

“Really?”

“Of course it’s real… are you scared?”

Eve noticed that Leah’s small body was trembling unconsciously.

“No, I’m excited, it feels just like a dream.”

Leah held the letter of recommendation, looking at it from all angles, and as she looked, large tears began rolling down from the corners of her eyes.

She quickly hugged the letter to her chest, afraid that her tears might stain this hard-earned letter of recommendation.

“Well, I should probably still accompany you tomorrow.”

Eve worried they might give the child a hard time again.

“Yes!”

“There’s one more thing, from now on we’re mother and daughter, so to avoid suspicion, you’ll have to call me mama in front of others.”

Eve carefully watched Leah beside her, unsure if she would agree…
