Chapter 84: Nightmare City 20

In the live streaming room, the dazzling and incessant comments suddenly paused for a moment, and then rolled and surged with even more frenzied tendencies.

“What’s going on? What exactly happened, was someone assassinated?”

“I don’t know, all the cameras are focused on the Emperor, the gunshot came from somewhere else.”

“Holy shit, are you still discussing this, didn’t you see what the Emperor did?”

“The Emperor is formidable! Ordinary people can’t do such things.”

“I thought they would… Turns out I’m still too young, oh no, I can already see the Emperor not finding a partner for the next ten years.”

“Wow, from this angle, this bird’s-eye view, let me take a screenshot first.”

“Hahaha, too awesome, the Emperor dodged so quickly, I’m already laughing until my face is twitching.”

“He looks so handsome, couldn’t the Emperor at least help him up, instead of dodging and even moving the chair away?”

“What does being handsome have to do with it, clearly he deliberately fell onto the Emperor, how could he be the only one with weak legs?”

“……with the Emperor’s personality, when will we have an Empress?”

The masses on the Stellar Network were discussing animatedly, while not far from Alvia, Ryan was walking quickly towards the direction where the gunshot had sounded, his mouth slightly twitching, as if he wanted to laugh but was holding it back with great effort.

At the same time as the singer pounced towards Alvia, Alvia made an unexpected move that no one could have imagined.

He swiftly dodged to the side, even moving the chair behind him, and just like that, the frail little singer fell directly to the ground, with no tools around to support his balance. Alvia simply placed one hand on the chair, coldly watching him fall to the ground.

He even frowned slightly, looking at the person who had been terrified by a single gunshot, his expression revealing obvious displeasure.

The singer who had fallen to the ground was still a little dazed, slowly sitting up from the floor. As soon as he looked up, he saw Alvia’s cold gaze fixed on him.

Embarrassment and shame immediately surged in his heart. The singer’s face instantly turned red.

“I’m sorry!” The singer immediately stood up from the ground, apologizing in a flustered manner, while picking up the feathered accessory that had fallen to the ground, intending to return it to Alvia.

By this time, Alvia had turned his head away, no longer looking at him, but towards the direction where the gunshot had come from.

The singer’s fall had been too eye-catching, and hardly anyone had paid attention to the source of the incident, the gunshot that had rung out during the founding ceremony.

Other members of the guard squad were also heading towards the direction of the nobles after the gunshot sounded. The gunshot had come without any warning, and it was unknown where exactly it had originated from or whether anyone had been injured.

In the live broadcast, apart from discussing the fallen singer and the Emperor’s reaction, people were now gradually starting to ask what the gunshot was all about.

Most of the guards around Alvia had walked away, and the next group of performers below the stage were also nervously watching this side, even though it was almost their turn to perform, this had happened.

The nobles closest to the gunshot were frantically fleeing in all directions, clutching their heads. The scene was in chaos, and it was impossible to tell who had fired the shot or whether anyone had been injured.

However, there were still some nobles with more experience sitting in their original positions, warily watching their surroundings, and not fleeing in panic like the others.

“It’s Duke Xelance.” Ryan frowned as he spoke.

A nobleman in his fifties, and one of Alvia’s most loyal supporters, was sitting in his seat with his head slightly lowered, looking as if he had fallen asleep, but fresh blood was continuously seeping from his chest.

It seemed that the assassination had been aimed at him.

The guard squad and medical team were in the area where the nobles were seated, while also searching for the source of the gunshot. Apart from a terrified singer still persistently holding up the feathered accessory, there was no one protecting Alvia.

“Your Majesty, Your Majesty, this is for you.”

Alvia glanced at the feathered accessory but did not speak. All his attention seemed to be focused on the nobles’ area, and he did not want to bother with the person in front of him.

Sensing that Alvia seemed to want to bypass him and go to the nobles’ area, the singer, who was lowering his head respectfully, gritted his teeth, and his fingers moved slightly.

A red beam of light suddenly appeared from the singer’s wrist, and in the blink of an eye, it was about to pierce through Alvia’s chest.

A foul odor of burnt feathers spread, and the blackened feathers fell to the ground once more. The red beam struck Alvia directly.

The singer’s entire body was trembling, but his eyes were wide open with excitement. He had succeeded! He had actually killed the Emperor during the founding ceremony.

But the next second, he suddenly realized something was amiss. Where was the blood? The smell of a body being pierced by a laser beam?

He looked up in surprise, only to see Alvia’s calm, indifferent eyes gazing at him, neither angry nor surprised, as if he were an insignificant character.

Lowering his gaze, he saw that the red laser had not pierced through Alvia at all. Alvia’s entire body was enveloped in a transparent, thin membrane, and the laser had fallen upon that membrane, unable to continue forward, let alone kill Alvia.

What was this thing? Why could it block lasers?

The singer trembled, his instincts telling him he should flee immediately, but his body was not under his control, as if rooted to the spot.

Alvia kicked him away with one foot, and the seemingly frail singer was knocked to the ground. The laser from his wrist had not been turned off, and as the singer fell, the hard ground was instantly cut open with a deep, long gash.

His chest in so much pain that he could not breathe, the singer coughed up a mouthful of blood, his face pale as he clutched at his chest, wanting to say something but finding it extremely difficult even to breathe.

“Your Majesty!”

The guards seemed to have only just reacted, rushing towards Alvia’s direction.

No sooner had one wave subsided than another arose. The performers below the stage suddenly erupted, aiming their props, which had been checked over repeatedly and deemed safe enough to be brought here, towards Alvia. These props had transformed into various weapons firing directly at Alvia not far away on the stage.

The stage above was instantly blown apart by the powerful weapons, countless debris and smoke rising, obscuring the black figure from view.

Almost no one in the live streaming room was speaking, as people anxiously watched the smoke-filled area in the video. What was going on? How was the Emperor?

The disguised props-turned-weapons continued their assault, and the once pristine stage was now riddled with craters and pockmarks from the bombardment. Even the singer who had been kicked to the ground but was still alive moments ago, was now unrecognizable, completely disfigured by the same indiscriminate attacks that had moments earlier revealed his sacred appearance.

Not to mention that the Emperor’s figure could not be seen at all. Could it be that he had already…

Everyone, both those watching the video and present at the scene, was in a state of panic. Some were sending messages requesting military support, while others completely could not believe it and thought it was special effects. The remaining people were furiously cursing about what exactly was going on, why so many people were blatantly attempting to assassinate the Emperor, where were the precautions? Where was the guard squad? What was Ryan doing!

The live broadcast had not been interrupted, and those far away could only stare fixedly at the screen, wanting to know the crux of the matter and the Emperor’s safety.

The performers below the stage had solemn expressions, and even when facing the guard squad, they were able to launch coordinated attacks, clearly having undergone long-term training.

In such a situation, the guard squad did not have large-scale lethal weapons, and they were being beaten back by the opponent’s powerful firepower.

In the live broadcast, people’s worries and fears had all transformed into fury, with comment after comment cursing the royal guard squad. They were supposed to be the most outstanding talents selected from the military, yet they were being beaten back step by step by a ragtag group. It was too ridiculous and shameful.

The performers below continued their assault, their weapons having abundant energy sources, and the guard squad was no match for them.

But in the next moment, the weapons in their hands all dropped to the ground. These people’s expressions turned agonized, wailing as they clutched their heads, as if suffering immense torture, rolling on the ground.

Alvia slowly emerged through the smoke, appearing before the audience’s bated breath in the live broadcast. The gray dust separated from his body, leaving not a speck of dust on his black military uniform. He looked down at the wailing people below, not saying anything, only giving a slight glance, and the guard squad, which had just been beaten back, immediately surrounded those below the stage.

The easily attainable victory was effortlessly reversed. Before anyone could react to what had happened, the guard squad had dragged away each of the rebellious individuals rolling in agony on the ground.

The comments were all asking what had happened, with this year’s founding ceremony being truly too dangerous.

Ryan, who had been beaten to a pulp earlier, had arrived at Alvia’s side at some unknown point and whispered something. Everyone only saw the Emperor give a slight nod.

As the smoke cleared, Alvia returned to his seat once more. If not for the surroundings in disarray, his expression looked as if nothing had happened, cold and fearless.

Ryan nodded towards the distance, and a huge light screen suddenly appeared where the performers had been standing below the stage. The light screen flickered a few times, and a large face appeared on it.

Those watching the light screen in the live broadcast were filled with confusion, feeling that their intelligence seemed inadequate for the day.

And the person who appeared on the light screen was none other than the long-unseen Heya.

As he had always been working as a mercenary, few people recognized Heya, and upon seeing him now, they only felt that this person’s stature seemed too tall.

“Your Majesty, the people have been captured, and all evidence, both material and personal, is present. The treasonous information that the Sharp Family head had destroyed has been restored, and all evidence related to their attempted usurpation has been found.”

Alvia nodded.

Heya glanced at the light screen, and with one look at the ravaged ground, it was clear what had happened.

He also saw the cameras flying around, directly facing him, so he spoke directly to the camera: “The assassination attempts from a few days ago and today were both carried out by the Sharp Family. We currently have evidence of all their crimes. Please do not worry, the Emperor will not be harmed, and Duke Xelance is also fine. With Zeus’s help, we had already grasped their plot long ago. It was only because the Sharp Family head was too deeply hidden that we only found his hiding place today.”

After speaking, Heya saluted Alvia and then turned off the light screen.

On the other side, the “deceased” Duke Xelance, who had just “died,” was sitting in his original seat, smiling and waving at everyone. The bloodstain had soaked a large area of his clothes, yet he appeared to have no issues. Afterwards, Duke Xelance seemed to feel uncomfortable and took out a nearly empty blood pack from his chest.

“……”

“I don’t know what to say anymore, I thought the Empire was going to change rulers, I was scared to death.”

“It’s good that the Emperor is fine.”

“I was just cursing the guard squad, so… was it all an act?”

“I just saw a member of the guard squad get injured and fall, his comrade was holding him with a grieving expression, but now the two of them are together, carrying away the rebels, and were clearly uninjured, it was all an act.”

“The Sharp Family? They really have had enough of living, ignoring the good life to cause such a mess.”

“They deserved it, no one in their family is a good person.”

“Wuwuwu, my legs are still shaking, the Emperor is too formidable, to come through such a fierce attack without a scratch.”

“You’ve forgotten the Emperor’s valor on the battlefield in previous years. I think these nobles have had too much of the good life and are just looking for trouble.”

The singer who had presented the Xenian feathered accessory seemed to have been forgotten by everyone, and even his fans did not dare speak up, unable to imagine that their beloved little angel was actually a rebel, and had even tried to assassinate the Emperor in full view of everyone. Fortunately, he had not succeeded.

Alvia had known about today’s farce long ago, and it could have been prevented earlier, but the Sharp Family had hidden too deeply, and Heya had been unable to find them for a time. Fearing that preemptive prevention would scare them away, this had happened.

Fortunately, Heya did not disappoint, finding the Sharp Family head’s hiding place and capturing him, as well as discovering evidence of their crimes.

The founding ceremony then proceeded normally, with Alvia sitting on the ravaged stage, amidst the dust-covered surroundings. A golden chair shone brilliantly, and Alvia, clad in a black military uniform and seated on the chair, was the most striking presence amidst the dust.

The nobles and ministers also acted as if nothing had happened, returning to their positions. Some remained unruffled, smiling faintly without a word, while others had stiff smiles, and yet others could not even maintain their expressions, overwhelmed with panic.

All reckoning would come after today. For now, everyone’s thoughts differed as they accompanied the ruler in watching the remaining program. The two previous farces had concluded, and the real performance had only just begun.

In the game world.

Zhou Zhou had learned a lot about Zeus from him and also knew that people nowadays were very accepting of the unknown and would not eliminate him just for being different.

He looked at Zeus and finally made up his mind.

“Zeus, I want to tell you something. Can you help me keep it a secret? Don’t tell anyone else for now.”

Zeus immediately perked up. A secret just between him and Zhou Zhou?

What were Alvia’s few flowers worth? He now shared a secret with Zhou Zhou, and it was clear at a glance who was closer. Let’s see Alvia be smug about that.

Zeus couldn’t help but grin: “Sure, sure, I’ll definitely keep it a secret for you.”
