Chapter 22: Strange Shadows in the Villa
The two of them had a height difference of around thirty centimeters, and their body types were also quite different. They looked like a little kitten leading an already grown-up big dog, and it seemed rather harmonious after watching for a while.
Zhou Zhou’s left arm was being tightly grabbed by Qian Le, while his right hand, which had released the ghost, was holding Heya’s hand, and the three of them ran downstairs together.
Heya had heard Zhou Zhou’s words just now. Although his expression was still extremely terrified, and his breathing was unsteady, he gripped Zhou Zhou’s hand tightly as if clinging to a life-saving straw, running along with him.
Qian Le was no longer afraid now.
Just a moment ago, seeing a strange woman standing by the window was indeed terrifying. Combined with the atmosphere at the time, the only thing he could think of was grabbing Zhou Zhou, who was reaching out his hand for some unknown reason, and running away together. However, they had only run a few steps when Heya’s roar startled him again.
Perhaps it was because he saw the tall and burly Heya being even more afraid than him, Qian Le gradually calmed down.
He didn’t expect someone like Heya to be even more terrified than him, and it was a pity that Heya had followed them into the instance just to chase after someone.
The three of them ran all the way down to the first floor and stopped at the farthest point from the stairs.
Zhou Zhou looked at Heya with concern, “Are you okay now?”
Heya nodded, panting heavily, his heart beating rapidly as if it were about to leap out of his chest.
He had intended to thank Zhou Zhou, but his mind was in a mess, and he couldn’t say anything. He pulled a chair from the dining table and sat down, resting his elbows on his knees and covering his forehead with his hands to calm himself down.
Seeing that Heya was now much calmer, Zhou Zhou turned to Qian Le. Qian Le waved his hand at him, indicating that he was fine.
Finally, Zhou Zhou looked at his own empty hands. Well, he had a little bit of trouble, his ghost had flown away.
Zhou Zhou looked up, “Sorry, I let the ghost escape.”
Qian Le: “There’s no need to apologize for that. It’s about time those players got to experience the joy of the game too.”
If it weren’t for Zhou Zhou capturing all the ghosts, most of the players would probably have been eliminated by now. They didn’t know how to be grateful for the benefits they received and only wanted the person who put in the effort to continue doing so, allowing them to reap the rewards without doing anything. Where could they find such a good deal?
The ghosts had run away, so let them run away. After all, catching ghosts wasn’t Zhou Zhou’s sole responsibility. Besides, they had treated him with such an attitude earlier, which had already angered Qian Le.
Alvia saw the three of them downstairs and didn’t make any further moves. This time, it was his misjudgment. He didn’t expect Heya to be so terrified of these things. It would be better to have someone else keep watch next time.
The ghosts floated towards the resentful woman, surrounding her like subordinates after getting close to her.
With a wave of her hand and without saying a word, the resentful woman somehow made the ghosts disperse in all directions.
The player who couldn’t stand up in front of the resentful woman was possessed by one of the ghosts, which entered his body through his chest.
The other five ghosts also floated towards other rooms, passing through walls or doors even if the rooms were closed.
Soon, players’ screams echoed from various places.
Alvia remained standing, having no interest in rescuing any players. Although this was the game world, everyone had to bear the consequences of their own actions. This instance indeed had a level of difficulty, but as long as they could clear it, they would definitely not earn fewer credits. Therefore, it was still better to rely on their own efforts. No one would keep helping them and standing in front of them forever. The best choice at any time was to rely on themselves.
With a spiritual power barrier set up, Alvia’s aura completely disappeared, and the ghosts would not come to him.
With the help of the ghosts, the resentful woman no longer continued to chase after the players. Her gaze slowly shifted towards the railing. Although the hallway was now without any light source, her ghastly pale face seemed to glow in the darkness, making it particularly striking.
She floated backward and leaned against the wall, then slowly merged into the wall and disappeared.
It seemed there was some spiritual power shielding in the instance, as Alvia couldn’t sense where she had gone after disappearing. It seemed the players who had mysteriously vanished earlier had all been captured by her.
Neon Green had also run into a room after the resentful woman appeared. However, soon after entering, a ghost came in as well. There were several players in the room, but this ghost charged straight at him.
Could it be because of the glow above his head that the ghost had found its way? Surely he wasn’t that unlucky.
Neon Green ran to the left, and the ghost floated to the left. He ran to the right, and the ghost also floated to the right. It seemed that it had indeed targeted him.
The room was just that big, and the ghost would float in mid-air, so Neon Green had nowhere to hide. As the ghost was about to enter his chest, Neon Green hugged his chest with both arms and shouted, “Don’t come over!”
The ghost lowered its head, trying to enter through his chest, but found it blocked by his arms. It tried to squeeze in but still couldn’t enter.
The ghost paused for a moment, then slowly floated up from Neon Green’s chest and drifted towards the other players.
Neon Green: ?
He looked down at his arms hugging his chest and seemed to realize something. He shouted loudly, “Quick, cover your chests, and the ghost won’t be able to possess you!”
The other players in the room immediately followed suit, mimicking Neon Green’s action of hugging their chests. The ghost lingered in the room for a while but, unable to possess anyone, had to pass through the wall to another room.
Neon Green wanted to inform the players in other rooms, but he wasn’t sure if that strange woman was still outside. After hovering around the door for a while, he decided to shout outside.
He opened the door, and a neon green head peeked out cautiously, looking left and right. Not seeing the resentful woman, he shouted, “Cover your chests, and the ghost won’t be able to possess you!”
After shouting, he immediately retreated and closed the door. Before closing it, he saw Al. Speaking of which, where was Zhou Zhou? The two weren’t together?
Neon Green was one of the earliest gossipers among the players. As soon as Zhou Zhou entered the game and greeted Al, he felt there was something between them.
Later, he saw Zhou Zhou get possessed to save Al and the two hugging each other.
However, he didn’t quite understand their subsequent interactions. The key point was that this guy Al was really dense. You’d think he would seize such a good opportunity instead of just standing there alone.
Wouldn’t it be better to go and comfort Zhou Zhou? Or take this chance to hold hands? Spend some time alone? Anything would work, really.
Entering the room and closing the door, Neon Green shook his head. Al was so dense, too dense. At this pace, who knows when he would be able to win Zhou Zhou over.
Downstairs, Heya was still sitting on the chair, calming himself down, but his condition was much better than before.
Zhou Zhou and Qian Le stood silently by his side, keeping him company. The light from the chandelier made the first floor look less gloomy. However, Zhou Zhou noticed that whenever someone screamed upstairs, Heya would still shudder involuntarily.
Zhou Zhou stepped forward and gently patted Heya’s back, though without saying a word. Heya knew Zhou Zhou was trying to comfort him in this way, and a warm feeling flowed through his heart. He raised his head and forced a small smile, wanting to tell Zhou Zhou that he was fine. However, his gaze went past Zhou Zhou’s shoulder, and he saw the woman standing not far behind him.
The woman in the red dress had silently followed them downstairs!
At this moment, her long hair was parted and tucked behind her ears, making her terrifying face even clearer in the candlelight.
The resentful woman tilted her head, her ghastly white face and pitch-black eye sockets creating a strong contrast. She stared intently at Heya, giving him an eerie smile.
Heya’s pupils contracted sharply, and the thread of reason in his mind snapped with a bang.
“Ahhhhhhh!”
He abruptly stood up from the chair, grabbing the nearest thing to him and holding it in front of himself as a shield.
“Hey! What are you doing? Let go of Zhou Zhou!”
Heya didn’t hear Qian Le’s anxious shout. Now at the extreme of terror, he only wanted to hide himself. His mind went blank, his body hair stood on end, and all he could do was scream helplessly.
Zhou Zhou was held in front of Heya, seemingly not realizing what had happened yet, looking down at his dangling feet swaying in the air.
He struggled a few times but couldn’t reach the ground no matter how hard he kicked.
Zhou Zhou blinked and finally noticed the resentful woman in the distance.
Perhaps because he knew Heya wouldn’t harm him, Zhou Zhou even had the composure to smile at the resentful woman while maintaining this posture.
The resentful woman stared expressionlessly at Zhou Zhou, then slowly floated towards them.
“Damn it!”
Only then did Qian Le notice the resentful woman behind him. He quickly stepped back, his face full of terror as he watched her float towards them.
Heya had been screaming for a while, but he secretly opened his eyes a crack and peeked from beside Zhou Zhou, wanting to see if that eerie woman had left.
Instead, he found that she was even closer…
