Chapter 118: The Real World 16

“Is it you?”

Zhou Zhou was still observing the layout and number of people in the room when he suddenly heard someone speak. He immediately looked over at the person who spoke.

Xia Yan had become much thinner and seemed to have added a few points of gloom, but his overall appearance had not changed much, so Zhou Zhou also recognized him.

“It’s you.”

The same words, but with clearly different meanings.

Alan squinted his eyes, looking back and forth between the two of them: “How? Do you two know each other?”

Xia Yan regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth. He and Zhou Zhou had only played a game together once and were not familiar with each other. Alan was naturally suspicious by nature, and if he knew they were acquainted, he would be even more suspicious.

“I’ve seen him once in a game. I didn’t expect he would be Alvia’s lover,” Xia Yan said coldly.

“How coincidental, you’ve also played a game with his little lover. What game was it? Let us hear about it too,” Alan said with a malicious smile that made one feel very uncomfortable. The indecent and blatant tone in his voice was evident to anyone.

Xia Yan couldn’t help but frown. Alan’s behavior was simply unbelievable for someone who had nearly ascended to the throne. The years of bandit life had almost erased the upbringing he had received in the royal family. No, perhaps this person never had such upbringing.

“It’s a newly released game called Nightmare City that can improve spiritual power,” Xia Yan said calmly, though his dislike for Alan had reached its peak.

“The one that can enhance spiritual power? Ha!” Alan sneered, finally shifting his attention back to Zhou Zhou and the unconscious Alvia who had been carried in.

He cast a cold glance at Zhou Zhou, then shifted his gaze to the unconscious Alvia carried in by his subordinates.

“Is he dead?”

“No, he’s still alive.”

Alan clicked his tongue, seeming a little regretful. He stepped forward and looked down at the unconscious Alvia, slapping his face insultingly.

“Find a way to wake him up, and also, go out and get the tools that block spiritual power on him. If he escapes, none of you will live either.”

“Yes.”

The two people carried Alvia out of the control room again. It was unknown what method they would use to wake Alvia up. Zhou Zhou originally wanted to follow them, but was firmly held down by the person behind him, unable to move.

After giving orders to his subordinates, Alan looked back at Zhou Zhou.

Zhou Zhou had been very quiet since entering. He had already surveyed the overall layout of the control room and noticed that Xia Yan and another very thin person were standing close together, with the others seemingly taking orders from the thin person. So these two were the masterminds?

Regardless of gender, members of the royal family were all very beautiful in appearance. However, years of hardship had stripped Alan of his good looks, and coupled with his innate viciousness, he now looked extremely sinister and cunning, showing no trace of the praised appearance of his youth.

Especially when looking at others, those sunken eyes exuded a ferocious glint that could scare children to tears.

Though calm on the inside, Zhou Zhou put on an appearance of being frightened.

No, there were too many people here, and the people around didn’t stray too far from those two. It seemed unlikely that he could restrain them and seize control. Moreover, he didn’t know where they were taking Alvia. If it was too far away, he might disappear from sight.

He had to do something to stall for time. He believed Alvia would definitely take action, and he just needed to keep these people occupied during that period.

“So you’re Alvia’s little lover?”

Zhou Zhou, who was pretending to be scared: ?

He paused for a moment, then nodded seriously: “Yes, that’s our relationship.”

“Hmph, what’s so good about him? How about following me instead?”

Alan showed Zhou Zhou an unprecedented gentleness, causing Xia Yan and the others to glance sidelong.

With insufficient combat power, it was impossible for Zhou Zhou to break through and take them hostage. To buy time, he had to create chaos here so that these people wouldn’t have time or energy to think about Alvia.

With this thought in mind, Zhou Zhou looked up at Alan and said, “No, Al is better than you in every way. He’s more handsome, gentle, and caring, and his abilities are stronger…”

He stabbed precisely at the areas Alan cared about most.

Alan’s expression immediately darkened.

Everyone else also gasped, as Alan was not a man of good temper. The naturally violent Alan hated nothing more than being compared to Alvia.

The feigned gentleness vanished instantly, and Alan said coldly, “Bring me the gun.”

“Originally, if you knew your place, I could have spared your life, but now it seems unnecessary.”

Before Alan could obtain a weapon, Zhou Zhou immediately pleaded to Xia Yan for help. His thinking was simple: although these two were accomplices, their relationship seemed rather ordinary. Plus, Xia Yan had expressed recognizing him from the start, so he might as well try to drive a wedge between them to buy time.

Alan seemed suspicious again, sneering, “Xia Yan, he’s begging you for help.”

Xia Yan cursed Zhou Zhou’s viciousness in his heart: “The prince knows full well that I’m a desperate man with no way out. How could I betray our plan for someone I’ve only met once?”

Alan snorted coldly, seeming barely satisfied with his words.

The cold muzzle pointed at Zhou Zhou. Zhou Zhou struggled, but the person behind him was too strong, and he couldn’t break free.

Alan was clearly accustomed to such things, not even blinking as he opened fire at Zhou Zhou.

A bang rang out, and the person restraining Zhou Zhou from behind was shot.

That person holding Zhou Zhou down slowly looked down at the wound on his abdomen as fresh blood flowed out, but not a drop stained the person in front of him.

When that person fell to the ground, everyone looked at Zhou Zhou in shock.

Zhou Zhou moved his arms and blinked at them: “It wasn’t me.”

Although he could be touched and grabbed, his current form was actually an energy body projected by the bracelet. He wouldn’t get hurt at all, which was why Alvia felt comfortable leaving him here. Only if the bracelet was damaged would Zhou Zhou be affected.

The high-speed bullet passed through the energy body and hit the person restraining Zhou Zhou directly. Zhou Zhou himself felt nothing.

If he wanted to, he could even forcibly break free from the other person’s restraint, since an energy body didn’t have a concrete shape. It was fortunate that Zhou Zhou had just pretended earlier, if he had really broken free, he wouldn’t have known how to explain it.

However, things weren’t great now either, as everyone’s eyes were focused on him.

“This is like seeing a ghost.”

Incredulously, Alan fired a few more shots at Zhou Zhou. Each bullet went through Zhou Zhou and swept towards the back, even hitting another subordinate and putting several holes in the wall.

“What’s going on here?”

The energy body projection technology was the latest development from the research institute. Although projection technology had existed for a long time, the ability to give the projected object a tangible physical body had not been publicly released yet, so these people didn’t understand why this was happening.

Free from restraint, Zhou Zhou looked at everyone’s shocked expressions and suddenly started dashing around randomly.

The control room door was open, but Zhou Zhou didn’t run out, instead running around inside the control room.

“What are you all standing around for? Catch him!”

Alan cursed loudly. After several failed attempts to shoot Zhou Zhou, he opened fire again on the erratically dashing figure.

Alan’s subordinates, who had been closing ranks to protect him, hurriedly tried to capture Zhou Zhou.

Chaos ensued in the control room. Zhou Zhou focused solely on evading their attempts to catch him, while the others had to avoid Alan’s attacks in addition to trying to capture Zhou Zhou. For a while, this many people were unable to apprehend Zhou Zhou.

Alan’s shooting skills were excellent. As a former member of the royal family, he could still demonstrate some basic techniques. Even with Zhou Zhou dashing around randomly, Alan could still hit his target with impressive accuracy.

However, Zhou Zhou took advantage of Alan’s accuracy, deliberately running towards crowded areas and towards the control room controls, resulting in several more people getting shot, including damage to the control panels.

It was Xia Yan who finally shouted for everyone to stop and block Zhou Zhou’s path to capture him.

The captured Zhou Zhou looked at everyone with an innocent expression.

Alan was furious to the point of smoking. What was with this guy? Why couldn’t he be shot?

“Could he be…a ghost?” Those familiar with the planet’s legends were clearly not few in number. This time, upon hearing his subordinate mention this topic, Alan didn’t get angry but looked at Zhou Zhou with a slightly changed expression, as if he actually believed it a little.

Xia Yan was almost angry enough to laugh. He reflected again on why the partner he had chosen was so stupid, not only making self-destructive moves but even believing such a simple lie.

“That must be a new defensive technology developed by the Empire. How could it be a ghost? There are no ghosts in this world at all. You actually believe in such things.”

His tone carried barely suppressed ridicule, immediately changing Alan’s expression after the previous embarrassing incident.

“Of course I know that! I don’t need you to remind me. Don’t forget your place. If not for my help, you’d still be lurking around like a dog.”

Xia Yan swallowed his anger time and again. For now, he still needed Alan’s help, but once this was over, Alan would be useless, and he could find a way to get rid of him then.

Alan was also thinking of finding an opportunity to eliminate Xia Yan. The two harbored ill intentions, and the atmosphere instantly dropped to freezing.

At this moment, Alan received a communication from his subordinates.

This was the squad leader of the fifth squad that had previously set out with other squads to search for Alvia. As soon as Alan connected, he broke into a torrent of curses.

“We already found him a long time ago. Were you all dead out there?”

“Help! There are ghosts, so many ghosts here!”

Alan’s brow furrowed tightly: “What’s going on?”

“Ghosts!!!”

The communication was cut off.

The shrill voice echoed in the control room. When Alan tried to call back, he could no longer get through.

“What’s going on? How many people have returned now?”

Alan asked his subordinates.

“Aside from the third squad, no one else has come back yet.”

“Alvia is already on the ship. Immediately contact the remaining squads and tell them to return at once.”

A subordinate stepped forward and said with trepidation, “We can’t contact anyone else.”

Alan’s gaze turned icy: “You mean none of the several hundred people can be contacted?”

The subordinate nodded. They mainly communicated through each squad’s leader, but now the leaders of all eight squads were uncontactable, so the squad members had likely suffered heavy casualties as well.

Alan paced around the control room with his gun, looking extremely agitated.

“Wasn’t it said that there were hardly any people on this planet? Did they run into an ambush? Did Alvia leave some trick behind…”

The forgotten Zhou Zhou suddenly spoke up: “Didn’t the earlier communication say they encountered ghosts?”

Xia Yan immediately said, “Shut up.”

Alan turned towards Zhou Zhou: “What do you mean? Are you saying there are ghosts on this planet? Or are you a ghost yourself?”

Zhou Zhou said leisurely, “I don’t know if there are ghosts on this planet or not, but as for myself, maybe I really am a ghost.”

Knowing Zhou Zhou might have some protective ability which made him impossible to shoot, Alan still pressed the gun against Zhou Zhou’s chest threateningly: “Don’t think I can’t deal with you. You…”

Before he could finish, Zhou Zhou suddenly vanished from his sight.

Alan: !!!

He really did see a ghost!
