Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 58
Their small fire grew quiet again. Qing Hua and Qing Cao both looked reluctant.
Wu Yue had become an official member of the foraging team. From now on, she would go out with Hua Shu’s group. They would have less time together.
Qing Hua was more rational than the sentimental Qing Cao.
Despite her reluctance, she smiled. “Yue, congratulations. I don’t know why Auntie Hua Shu let you join, but this is a great opportunity for you. Normally, only strong people can join the tribe’s foraging teams. Someone like you would not usually be accepted.”
She sighed. “Even my mother could not convince the team to take you. But now you have a team, and your food supply is secure. You will not have to worry about starving anymore.”
Looking at her two sincere companions, Wu Yue was touched. “Thank you both for taking care of me. If it weren’t for you, I have no idea what I would be like now.”
She raised her skinny little hand and patted her chest. “Once I become strong, I’ll protect you both.”
Qing Hua burst out laughing. “Yue, with that little frame of yours, you might not even be able to cover Qing Cao.”
Wu Yue’s face stiffened. Stop using my body size as a measuring stick. We can still be friends, okay?
The celebration continued late into the night. Wu Yue returned home, washed up briefly, and collapsed into her straw bed.
She had been running around all day and even dealt with lunatics. It was exhausting.
At that moment, inside the Wu’s cave, a fire flickered in the central pit, casting warm light around the once-dark cavern.
The Wu sat on a protruding stone seat, holding his staff.
The chief stood beside him with a grave expression. On the floor lay a large animal hide. Beastman Da Shi lay weakly upon it.
Shi Lin knelt beside his father, face full of worry. “Father…”
Although the wound on Da Shi’s leg no longer bled, he had not regained consciousness. All the beastmen were anxious.
The Wu looked down at the powdered herbs on a leaf and sniffed them. “This is indeed an herbal medicine. I saw it once with the former Wu. Unfortunately, he met the Beast God before he could pass it on to me. I never thought I would see it again.”
He turned to Shi Lin. “Yuan Lang’s method for stopping the bleeding and this herb saved your father’s life. He is just weak now. He will wake up tomorrow.”
He handed the leaf to Shi Lin. “This is the best hemostatic herb. Apply it daily. You can also steep it in water for him to drink.”
The Wu spoke slowly, but Shi Lin remembered every word. Upon hearing that his father would recover, he grinned widely.
He was deeply grateful to both Yuan Lang and Wu Yue, who had given him the herbs.
They had saved his father’s life.
“Boy, have you seen what this herb looks like before it is ground into powder?”
Shi Lin nodded. “Yes. I was going to collect some, but the patch was already gone, so I traded with a little female.”
The Wu smiled and nodded. “Alright. Take your father home. Feed him tender meat for the next few days.”
Once Shi Lin had left with Da Shi, the Wu looked toward the chief with deep eyes. “That little female… she is not a Wu, is she?”
