Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 44
“Congratulations, Host. You have completed the first task of the long-term main mission ‘Dwelling’ — acquiring a home in the Snow Tiger Tribe. Reward: 10 points. Reward: ‘Beginner’s Guide to Woodworking’ (Digital Copy). You may view it in your panel,” said the system.
Wu Yue squinted. “Why is it Beginner’s Guide to Woodworking? Why not just call it the full version?”
“Host, do you have bitter greens juice in your brain? In this kind of environment, would a modern version be of any use to you?” the system replied.
Wu Yue stayed silent.
Why does that actually sound reasonable?
“Host, the Beginner’s Guide to Woodworking is absolutely a must-have for any reborn traveler. This reward is well worth it,” the system added.
Wu Yue twitched at the corners of her mouth. “System, why do you sound like a sleazy broker?”
“You mangy host. The system has decided to mute your free time privileges,” the system snapped.
It huffed, then went silent.
Wu Yue rubbed her nose. The system’s temper had definitely gotten worse.
“Yue! Are you there? Come out quickly!” came the familiar voice of Qing Cao from above.
Wu Yue stood and brushed the dust from her backside. She poked her head out from inside the door.
“What is it? Why the rush?”
Qing Cao’s slightly thin face was flushed with excitement.
“The salt traders are almost here. The hunters ran into them in the forest and came back ahead of them to bring the news. Come on, let’s go meet them!”
Wu Yue’s eyes lit up. “The salt trade team?”
She had heard from Qing Cao that this team had set out even before winter began. They had traveled a great distance to the White Sand Salt Sea to bring back the precious salt that was vital for the beast people’s survival.
Wu Yue’s eyes sparkled like stars. She darted over to Qing Cao’s side, grabbed her arm, and dragged her toward the tribe’s entrance.
The entire tribe was bustling with excitement. The salt trading team had returned. The warriors had returned.
The two of them squeezed their way with great effort to the very front of the crowd. The chief and a large group of beastmen had already gathered outside the tribe.
What caught Wu Yue’s attention was not the crowd. It was the dark, skinny elder wrapped in woven vines standing in front of the chief.
He held a wooden staff taller than anyone else present. At the very top of that staff…
“Oh my gosh!” Wu Yue stared in shock.
Could someone tell her what that glowing blue halo on top of the staff was?
“System, come help your poor host. I feel like I’m about to drop dead,” Wu Yue muttered.
This was a matter of life or death for its mangy host. The system did not dare be careless. It quickly came online.
“What happened? What happened?” it asked.
Wu Yue stared intently in that terrifying direction. “I must be hallucinating. That dark, shriveled old man’s staff is glowing.”
“This host is truly exhausting,” the system groaned.
The system took several deep birdlike breaths.
“So, on the first day I explained the basics of this beast world, were you sleepwalking?”
Wu Yue looked confused. “You said that?”
“If I didn’t, I’ll stream myself eating dirt. That dark old man is the tribe’s Wu. What he’s holding isn’t some cane for the elderly. That is a Wu staff. Wu staffs do not glow. What you saw was that Wu’s externalized Wu power,” the system explained.
Wu Yue’s mouth formed a perfect O. “That’s seriously insane.”
“It is absolutely that insane. So, hurry up and start hoarding points. The cultivation system won’t unlock until you reach one hundred points,” said the system.
